Former Republican Governor of Michigan William Milliken tells the Grand Rapids Press that he's "disappointed" in John McCain and the campaign he is running:

He endorsed John McCain in the presidential primary, but now former Republican Gov. William Milliken is expressing doubts about his party's nominee.

"He is not the McCain I endorsed," said Milliken, reached at his Traverse City home Thursday. "He keeps saying, 'Who is Barack Obama?' I would ask the question, 'Who is John McCain?' because his campaign has become rather disappointing to me.

"I'm disappointed in the tenor and the personal attacks on the part of the McCain campaign, when he ought to be talking about the issues."

John McCain is as dangerous as any rat pushed into a corner. He is blustering, hissing, clawing, getting ready for something. .......................

If this is not the McCain he endorsed, then he needs to retract his endorsement. It's one thing to say you're disappointed, but how about formally going on the record and saying you no longer endorse him?

Bill Milliken was part of a GOP that was honorable and even progressive before it was hijacked by religious nutjobs and neocons. That party is dead and gone.

This is the new face of the GOP. Get used to it! Moderate Republicans can begin to hedge their bets now that the ship is sinking, but make no mistake- They bought into this ticket and deserve the blow-back when the mud starts flying. They are spiraling down into a toxic quagmire of extremism and race-baiting which is going to define this party for years to come, and when they try to say that these tactics didn't represent the real Republican Party, I for one won't be impressed.

Frankly, it's all a hypocrisy. McCain IS an elite, his father and grandfather were admirals, that's how he got into the Naval Academy as well as his son. McCain no more represents the proletariat than George Bush. The problem is that the uneducated morons of the country have been duped, dumbed down by the likes of Matt Drudge and Rush Limbaugh among others, and they have lost the ability to think for themselves. I guess that's what makes them so angry, as we're finding out in the past few days of hatemongering by McCain and Palin.

The FORD Motor Company and local Ford Dealerships are adversting on FOX News during Sean HANNITY'S' program. The United Auto Worker and other labor unions support Barack Obama for president. Please join me in contacting Ford's corporate office in Michigan and your local dealerships and encourage them to pull their advertising dollars.

Decent Republicans are abandoning McCain/Palin in droves. I have never seen the number of party loyalist openly question the electability of their candidate on so many fronts and issues. The GOP will have to start all over because the rightwing, exclusionist , neocons have destroyed the " Party of Lincoln "

decent people, republican or democrat or independent, recognize hate when they see it. McCain's Maverick party is the party of fear and hate.

If there was ever a need for a third party, we are seeing it. As someone who advocates states rights, a government that does not spend more than it takes in, I found out long ago that the Republican party was a sham, a hypocrisy. I think Ralph Nader and Jesse Ventura are right. Neither party practices what they preach.

That being said, the only one with concrete solutions to get us out of this mess is Barack Obama. McCain has no solutions, only pandering and hate mongering. His mortgage bailout plan angered more of his base than not, he has flip flopped on so many issues that no one really knows where he stands on ANYTHING anymore. That is why he will lose in a landslide. It won't just be Democrats and Independents who vote for Obama, so will many, many Republicans. No one likes a phony.

Independent reports, accounts, and videos of the McCain/Palin base are exposing, and embarrassing Republicans who normally hide behind MSM misinformation.

John McCain and Sarah Palin are out of control, it behoves Republicans to stand up and oppose this incitement to hatred before it flares up into something worse!

But where are the "responsible" Republicans from the Bush senior administration, like Colin Powell and James Baker?

Why are they not putting country first by speaking out against the hate rallies that McCain and Palin are conducting.

Colin Powell is soo over rated. I think he is a coward. He didn't stand up to bush and helped get us into this war. James Baker is a political shrill for any republican idea good or bad. These two have no honor.

Colin Powell, Condoleeza Rice ?? Why are they quiet when their party is degenerating into a race-baiting 1950's style lynch mob. Where are the Republicans who realy care about this country? They remained silent when Bush/Cheyney/Rove tried to destroy the civil rights section of the justice department (to avoid voting rights litigation.) We now see proof of what the Republican Neocon agenda realy is. After destroying our country's economy and lying to lead us into the wrong war ... they are willing to create riots in our country to hold on to power in the White House. The last two elections were stolen ... they are planning to stage another coup and turn our country into a dictatorship! VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN '80

Then, Mr. Milliken, stand up like a responsible citizen and caring government official and publically withdraw your endorsement before someone gets hurt or property damaged.

McCain and Palin need to be held responsible in the event someone is hurt or property damaged. They are purposefully inciting the crowd, it is pure munipulation.

A letter to John McCain,

Mr. McCain, you have been weighed in the balances and your time is up. The decisions you have made regarding your campaign have been without regard to the American people. You have put yourself first and country last. Your once respected campaign rallies have now become hate rallies. You have allowed Sarah Palin to hi-jack your campaign rallies and turn them into forums for hate. This has opened the old wounds of racism and fear that continues to plaque the south. The south is one part of the country where you are above 50% in the polls. You nor your running mate are talking about real issues for the American people. The more you push division and hate you will be pushed down in the polls. The hands of God will not let you pass. The American people in this time of our history are not looking for messages filled with hate. Since you are not willing to take back the control you have given to Sarah Palin, you are heading for a political disaster that will be in the history books. Your time is up.

Get these people on the MSM and apologize for their hate speeches and then kick them the hell out of the country.....SICKENING.

John McCain was a good leader who caught the infection that has corrupted the Republican party beyond all recognition. I've never been a Republican but I used to respect the party and many of its ideas. That began to change when the GOP took over Congress in 1994 and immediately turned to dirty tricks and the "politics of personal destruction" as its primary mission. Bush and his crew destroyed the party and have done everything possible to destroy the country. I don't know if Obama can make everything right again, but I know for certain that John McCain can't. And if he should die and leave the Presidency to Palin, it would be truly disastrous.

Palin and McCain are breeding hate in these rallies every day................as if the world does not have enough hate! Hillary Clinton started this dangerous game in the primaries. She went up in those hills in the Appalachia and delicately played the same game McCant and Pain are playing now. It's a dangerous game and McCant knows it. There's one thing though..........My grandad used to say be careful of the trap you set for others because you very well could stumble up on the trap yourself! It's a shame that John McCant has reduced himself to this level. HIS FINAL STAGE OF THE GRADUAL DECLINE IN STANDARDS. Behaving the way he and Palin has makes people lose all respect for the old guy.

Thing is... this guy is an old-school "Republican."

That party simply no longer exists. When are conservatives gonna wake up?! That party died sometime around the failed Clinton Impeachment.

I have no idea what they are now but its not this old guy's GOP.

True. There were rabid right wingers ala McCarthy in those days but I could live with Eisenhower as President today were he alive. He was the one who warned us about the rise of the military/industrial complex in his 'humanity nailed to a cross of iron' speech. My favorite quote of his: Men acquainted with the battlefield will not be found among the numbers that glibly talk of another war.
