Former Republican Governor of Michigan William Milliken tells the Grand Rapids Press that he's "disappointed" in John McCain and the campaign he is running:

He endorsed John McCain in the presidential primary, but now former Republican Gov. William Milliken is expressing doubts about his party's nominee.

"He is not the McCain I endorsed," said Milliken, reached at his Traverse City home Thursday. "He keeps saying, 'Who is Barack Obama?' I would ask the question, 'Who is John McCain?' because his campaign has become rather disappointing to me.

"I'm disappointed in the tenor and the personal attacks on the part of the McCain campaign, when he ought to be talking about the issues."

I do think the hate rally's are unfortunate. We should be adults - not acting like a bunch of little kids who are throwing temper tantrums because the candidate we choose to back isn't doing very well. Some of the stuff going out there about Obama is just ridiculous. Do they really think we would support someone who is a terrorist? Who has not SHOWN us he is about bringing the country into a state where we support each other? I just don't get it. Not to mention - it is proven educated people back Obama. Doesn't that send a message of some sort, or do the hateful masses think education is for people who can't think for themselves? Perhaps they do not understand what EDUCATION is. I back Obama because I want someone smarter than me to run this country - we had someone who wasn't smart and the country went to crap. I want a team of INTELLIGENT people to get us through this economic mess, along with getting us out of a war we should not be in (and i have thought that from day 1) and helping all those millions of people who need health care. Not to mention getting those hateful masses a chance to get that college education if they do not already have it.

Come on people - we are Americans first or have we forgotten? Stop the hate.

what republicans are beginning to realize is mc cain is bringing not only himself down, but the entire republican party. watch more and more repub's starting distancing themselves from mc cain. mc cain is just like bush, spoiled little brat that isn't getting his way. can't stand losing like a man. soon he and his pathetic sidekick, will be the only ones left on the sinking ship. even the rats are bailing.

I predict many republicans fleeing to the libertarian ticket as far as economic issues are concerned.

I think one of the saddest things about John McCain's campaign October 2008 is that it does not represent most Republicans' views. McCain's campaign is now representing the extreme right wing of his party. Not just Gov. Millican, but all decent Republicans should speak out against this fear mongering, venomous campaign. It is one of the most dishonorable in my adult life. I have not seen this kind of covert racism since the 1960's and 1970's. And the most disheartening thing about it is it comes from John McCain, a man I once respected and thought would wage an honorable campaign. It appears that John McCain has fiddled with his moral compass so much that it looks like he now has it installed backwards. Not only is he headed in the wrong direction, but he may be beyond redeemable.

No one is afraid of the transparent McSame boogy man tactics of Bush/Cheney/Rove/McCain. Bush and his croonies have caused America to be immune to much of this fear mongering. Does America fall for this latest act of desparation? Thanks, but no thanks to that bridge to nowhere, McBush. Enough is Enough!

As a fiscal conservative and social liberal, I have long hoped for the days when respected men and women of both parties could put their collective heads together and LEAD, at least some of the time. However, and I am sad to say, I see very few Republicans of integrity and courage serving at this time, and those that may have previouosly been scored in that category, sadly do not have the courage to call a halt to their colleagues who have joined the right wing whacko express.

There is somthing wrong with John McCain that is very scary and should scare you and all Americans.

McCain and Palin have decide that since their losing this Election, that they are gonna run a dishonorable campaign and appeal to the darker side of wacko nut jobs out their that do not want a United America.

McCain is so drunk with the need for power he has decided COUNTRY and HONER mean nothing anymore and the very fact that he may lose to a Multi Racial Black American is one of the reasons driving him to say and do things that should be offensive to every American no matter your color, party affiliation our Gender.

Every single American should be outraged right now on how McCain and Palin are running their campaign.

The fact is words matter and by McCain and Palin playing the fear card to get votes, they could motivate some nut to attack the first Multi racial black President of this great nation.

If you vote for Mc N u t then you have endorsed this kind of behavior and should be ashamed of yourself. We are better then this America!

And the people at the rallies screaming traitor and threatening the life of the Democratic nominee are precisely the people your party courted and encouraged..

I personally believe that the ones in the crowd that are standing up with this hate are actually McCain plants. Take the black guy yesterday in the front row next to McCain. He ws the only person at that ralley who had a suit on. Did anyone notice that? He was up front so McCain could reach out and hug him. I really believe some stage craft here.

buster85 I made the same comment yesterday. Yes I also noticed the black guy (being one myself). Some of those attendees are McCain plants. My wife volunteers at a television station and she told me that people are planted during events.
