The Politico reports:

McCain didn't talk about the stock market yesterday, and didn't put out a statement on it, while Obama did both, and McCain campaign manager Rick Davis was asked about that on a conference call (about Acorn!) this afternoon.

"There's very little a candidate for president can say and very little the president can say about what's happening in the stock markets except hope that they correct themselves," Davis said, adding that McCain's mortgage plan could be an "elixir" for the financial crisis.

...

The campaign, he said, shouldn't become a "CNBC news show on the stock market."

Barack Obama's campaign has released a statement:

Obama issued the following statement just before 7 p.m. Thursday: "As millions of Americans lost more of their investments and hard-earned retirement savings today, it is critical that the Treasury Department move as quickly possible to implement the rescue plan that passed Congress so that we can ease this credit crisis that's preventing businesses and consumers from getting loans and causing dangerous instability in our market. While we face a very serious challenge, now is not the time for fear or panic, but for all of us to come together with resolve and determination that we can steer ourselves out of this crisis and restore confidence in the American economy."

This nice thing about being the party of delusion is that you don't have to deal with reality.

You can pick your issues and opponents.

And focus on such imminent threats to our way of life as:
Communists.
1960's radicals

And ignore trivial things like
The impending eradication of the middle class
An economic catastrophe to rival the Great Depression

Vote for Bob Barr. I'm personally an Obama supporter, but I appreciate that you can allow decency and respect to come before temporary party power. If my candidate behaved in the manner that the McCain campaign has, I would not support them either. At the end of the day, we are all Americans and there is more that brings us together than tears us apart. My family has a proud military history, and I am ashamed for John McCain. This type of dishonor will stay with him for the rest of his days. I feel like he wants to lose, because this is not a winning strategy. But whatever his goal is, it is unpatriotic to try to tear the country apart with hate in the process - especially during these trying times for us all.

there's a reason he won't talk about it:

the "straight talk express" ran him over.

I lost 15% of my IRA in September. At this rate, there will be nothing left in a few months.

My G*d. People are losing their retirement savings left and right across the political spectrum! The entire world has gone into economic meltdown! This is what we all see on the news and is what we are all talking about down here in red-state Tennessee -- and we have someone running for president who wants to pretend the biggest story in ages isn't happening? Poking fun of Paris Hilton and Britney Spears was farrrrr more important to him? Lovely.

McSame's desperate strategy is to throw much mud and crap that Americans walk away in disgust and forgo participating. Bad idea, with the repubs deregulated economy going down in flames like the Hindenburg, not saying anything looks unbelievably lame.

I just lost 20% of my 401K. mccain, who wants to be president, cannot acknowledge the economy and people losing their money? does he have better things to do? if you don't care about us, then I won't care about you. people in this country are losing money and all you can do is question obama's character? you need to question your own character before questioning others. you've turned into slime and should be ashamed of yourself.

No, even CNBC is marginally qualified to know what is going on in the economy. McCain and his comrades are without a clue.

I don't see a presidential candidate here. I see a sad old man.

McCain - Has there ever been this stupid a candidate with even stupider supporters? Seriously.

How'd he go from "suspending his campaign" over the urgency to "not mentioning the market"?

Excellent question! For that I just marked you as one of my favorites!
