Obama Listed As "Barack Osama" On Some New York Ballots

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's last name is spelled "Osama" on hundreds of absentee ballots mailed out this week to voters in Rensselaer County.

The misspelling, which elections officials on both sides of the aisle insist was simply a typo, is causing embarrassment for the county.

Three proof readers read the ballot before it was released to the public. Yes, "three" people proof read it. And still this ballot got out? Sure I believe it. i also believe God created this earth six thousands years ago.

There is a very conservative radio talk show host in Denver by name of Mike Rosen. He's not a Limbaugh type---more of an Ayn Rand fiscal attack dog type trying speak to those "smart" fiscal conservatives. I have heard him numerous times refer to "Barack Osama". Always followed by a "oh, sorry....n­ow the liberals will send me all kind of mail...its just a 'slip of the tongue'." You can google his name and Barack Osama and see that Colorado media groups have reported on it.

My point--this guy is NOT of the Hannity/Rove school--he supposedly has the ear of the "smart" conservative--but even they are sinking to employing this crap.

Even if it had been a typo (which it doesn't look like it was), how do you not proof-read the two most important words on a ballot - the candididates' names!!

Are you telling me that the ballot cards were popped in the mail the second they were printed - there was no proof-reading??

What is the big deal? And why is using his middle name, Hussein, a big deal? It is part of his heritage. He is trying to reach out to the Muslim community and perhaps this is a ploy by the Obama camp to reassure them of his support for Muslim's.

Please do not do what my father did with his absentee ballot. He chose the "straight party" option.
Then we read about the problems with voting machines all over the country regarding this option.

Obama's nomination has prompted Americans to confront their own attitudes to race, individually and on a national level. The event is not only the nation's thermometer but will become a sort of thermostat for the rest of the world. They are watching to see the outcome of these elections, which will send a powerful message around the planet. There is a sense that the post-modern war-weary world needs fresh ideas and new motivation if our civilization is to renew itself, compunded even more by the economic crisis.
The national self-searching exercise has unmasked some ugly features, but we should not try to remove the spotlight from them. This is where the media needs to hold these attitudes closely to the light, air them, examine them, discuss them so the country may understand its course, and face its fears.

I agree. Whe I talk to voters during the phone banks; i get the "Uncomfortable with Obama" from the "undecided"; a refrain seen in many news articles. After I ask them why they are "uncomfortable"; them hmm and haaa around. Some never make a pint of platform; some repeat the "Socialist" fear (I guess they are so used to left over New Deal entitlements they have forgotten the "Socialist tag" that goes along with Social Security, Umemployment, Workfare etc) Anyway, I can only think it because he is AA, has a "muslim" name, or some point that bigots utlize to hate someone. It is important that we help these people confront themselves.
