Bush On Financial Crisis: It's A Good Thing I'm In Charge

New York Times:

George W. Bush began his presidency with the worst terrorist attack on American soil and he is ending it with the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. In between, he confronted a hurricane that nearly wiped New Orleans off the map as his administration showed ineptitude in its response.

Now, as he spends his last months in office trying to avert a global economic collapse, Mr. Bush has been telling people privately that it's a good thing he's in charge.

I'll say...remember during last week's debate when McCain proposed that the government buy up all the bad mortgages? Well...he skrooed up BIGTIME because that WAS the Booosh/Paulson master plan. And NOT at mark-to-market value...but at full face value of the original loan.

Thing is, the Treasury doesn't HAVE that kind of money, and neither does the Fed...and the only way they could pull that off is by printing worthless bills 24/7. Which means a devalued dollar which would raise oil prices again which would slow the global economy down even further.

And that's why the leaders of every country showed up in D.C. this weekend with their hair afire.

Very interesting. Something else that caught my attention yesterday...21% of our GDP is "generated" by governmental agencies. Add that to the 70% that's generated from the financial sector and what do you have left?
