Palin Hockey Game Booed

E&P reports that Sarah Palin was greeted with a chorus of boos at the Philadelphia Flyers game where she dropped the puck at the Flyers' opener:

You never know where you are gonna find a political scoop, but Lynn Zinser at her NYT hockey "Slapshot" blog just posted that Sarah Palin, in her much-ballyhooed appearance dropping the puck at the Philly Flyers' opener, was greeted by "resounding (almost deafening) boos from the Flyers crowd."

The biggest problem: when Palin came out to onto the Wachovia Center ice Saturday night -- greeted by resounding (almost deafening) boos from the Flyers crowd -- the the two hockey players who had no choice but to appear with her in that photo op were turned into props in a political campaign.

Unbelievable. Do these morons vet anything before they do it?

uhmm...no.

Flyers fans are tough fans....and if she really thought just dressing her kid up in a Flyers uniform would stop them.....obviously Sarah doesn't watch a lot of NHL hockey, does she?

It was a stupid idea

I feel so sorry for the child - she might be thinking the crowd is booing HER! At that age, incidents stick with you for a long, long time.

Shame on you, Gov. Palin, for not putting YOUR CHILDREN FIRST. After all, isn't that what you say you stand for? Or are you trailer trash in lipstick?

The article cites Fox news as stating:

"The GOP Vice-Presidential nominee said at an earlier fundraiser that she would stop some of the booing from the rowdy Philadelphia fans by putting her seven year old daughter, Piper in a Flyers jersey. She said, 'How dare they boo Piper!'""

Is this statement by Palin documented? Is there video or audio? If so, I would think that this could/would be very damaging to Palin's persona as a tender hearted parent and provide rather convincing evidence that she is in fact a cold blooded politician who is willing to use her children as human shields to deflect political flak.

On the heels of Sarah Palin's booing in Philly, could we be looking at a perfect storm of boo? If President Bush somehow throws out the opening pitch at the Phillies World Series opener, a whole new level of boo could be introduced into human history. The President with the lowest approval rating in history + the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression + most prolific booers in sports history = WOW, the mind reels. read more here:

And the largest increase in the stock market history yesterday and a substantial decrease in gas prices. Darn that Bush.

Natureman, are you defending the Bush policies? 8 YEARS AFTER HE TOOK OFICE, the DOW is lower than it was the day he took office and Obviously gas has more or less tripled...

Day Bush took office in January 2001:
DOW Jones Average: 10,588
Unleaded gas per gallon: $1.46

What is the big deal about Palin being booed at a Philadelphia Flyers game? Assuming that residents of Philadelphia have a fair amount of spectators in the stands and that Democrats outnumber ALL other parties 852164 to 237310 (figures per www.dos.state.pa.us/elections/lib/elections/055_voter_registration_statistics/currentstats/currentvotestats.xls) or 3.6 to 1. In the surrounding Montgomery and Bucks counties the Democrats outnumer Republicans by aprroximately 20,000 and 10,000 respectively.

My point? Was putting Palin in the midst of a likely Democratic majority crowd and being booed is like the expected response towards the Christians in the Coliseum. Or that towards Christians on HuffPo for that matter.

It is as much of a significant "news" story as the fact that the sun rose once again this morning. "Stories" like this exposes the illegitimacy of thinking this is a news or information site. All HuffPo is is a place for the Angry Left to blog and share their insightful opinions.

The significant news about this little "gig" was that, before she did it she was speaking to a Republican women's gathering and told them that she knew she was probably going to get boo'ed. Then she told them it would help if she dressed up her little girl in a hockey jersey and brought her out too--kind of a "shield" for Sarah to maybe stop the crowd from boo'ing. I think that's disgusting! She seems ready to stop at nothing to put her own children on the line for her political career. It's one thing to bring them out and introduce them when you are nominated, but watching that sweet little girl get put front and center in a situation like this where Sarah knows she will be exposed to this, and watching her standing up on the stage in those rallies where "mommy" is basically doing her best to instigate racism, and potentially an assassination attempt, that makes me wonder just what kind of mom Sarah really is.

Wow... I guess the saying is true. You can make crap look good if you stack it right. Stop saying republicans are racists.

Christianity has nothing to do with it. Let alone any "Fundamentalist" version (utter perversion) of Christian faith, belief, or practice.

hey saltiness,
What drgrph was trying to point out was the relation of ancient Rome where they cheered on the Lions eating Christians. He was not trying to say any specific notion about Christianity.

BRAVO!!! She needs to get used to that sound. When will she be up for re-election in Alaska?

I keep hearing that Gov. Palin has 80% approval ratings in Alaska. Maybe it has something to do with oil rebate checks? Or they know something we don't and the McCain-Palin camp just can't spit out?

Would not have been beer...we don't waste the good stuff. I used tosave eggs on the back porch for a few weeks until they got really reeky and then toss them at the offending person.

Sar@ah might get a few stanky eggs. Not from me but the idea is not a bad one.

Yeah, nice try. People were applauding, a few scattered boos. Looks like E & P has to turn in their journalistic credentials now.

Excuse me? Didn't you watch the video? There was a lot of tension there, and a lot of booing.

I heard a lot of boo's, and Sarah anticipated that this would happen. That is the reason she hid behind Piper, said in her own words that no-one would boo if there was a child present. What a great mother she is, throw her kids to the wolves.

I was at that game and there definitely wasn't that much cheering. Don't get me wrong, there was some, but it was drowned out by the chorus of boos.

Agree. These fans have been know to boo Santa and cheer when an opposing player has a career ending injury. I'm puzzled, aren't these the "Joe Six pack" guys she's appealing to? They probably have been wondering about how they'll afford their season tickets next year. Thank you Philadelphia.

why didn't she lace up for that appearance? Isn't an Alaskan Hockey Mom (r) BORN with skates on? She should have been able to do a couple circuits around the boards, maybe one of them skating backwards...THEN I'd buy that she's a 'Hockey Mom(r)'

lexicon

It looks like Hockey Mom got the hockey rink built in Wasilla and her house at the same time, ala Senator Stevens style:

This happened at the 'Wachovia Arena' think about the irony of it.
There isn't any Wachovia anymore, thanks to the policies of the Republican deregulators of which John McCain is one. No wonder Palin got booed. I hope it won't be called the 'Halliburton Hockey Rink' any time soon.

Notice the music used as an attempt to drown out the booing?

"The 'ultimate hockey mom' chosen by a panel of celebrity judges" Wouldn' you like to know the names of the panel..... (Carl Rove, perhaps?)

What a gutless wonder.
She dragged those two kids into that arena for protection! Shameless.
Go Flyer fans!

What a worthless mother to use her children as a human shield, as if that would deflect the negative reaction she should have anticipated. Some more of her twisted "family values" on sad display.

Agree. if it hadn't been for the kids, the ice would have been littered with stuff thrown at her. Why aren't these children in school???

Wouldn't surprise me if they were home schooled and being tutored while on the road.

[Note: As much as public education has been dumbed down to pass stupid government tests (not to mention the amount of security needed these days, I don't think home schooling is the way to go. Employers, esp. high tech-oriented, have enough problems hiring qualified folks. But I ramble as this is another topic.]

Anybody else notice when Palin was in Ohio the other day that her kid was in a Cincinatti Reds jersey on that occassion? Looks like a pattern is emerging perhaps?
