Palin Hockey Game Booed

E&P reports that Sarah Palin was greeted with a chorus of boos at the Philadelphia Flyers game where she dropped the puck at the Flyers' opener:

You never know where you are gonna find a political scoop, but Lynn Zinser at her NYT hockey "Slapshot" blog just posted that Sarah Palin, in her much-ballyhooed appearance dropping the puck at the Philly Flyers' opener, was greeted by "resounding (almost deafening) boos from the Flyers crowd."

The biggest problem: when Palin came out to onto the Wachovia Center ice Saturday night -- greeted by resounding (almost deafening) boos from the Flyers crowd -- the the two hockey players who had no choice but to appear with her in that photo op were turned into props in a political campaign.

Smooth move Palin. Nobody could have foreseen her being booed. So reassured she would be one heart beat away from the most powerful and difficult job in the world. You betcha.

Noamjunior, what are you talking about, "All you cons trying to spin...."??

I am an ardent Obama supporter and have been since I met him in Chicago in 1991. Don't play the same games that many Republicans do. Be objective. The world is not black and white. You don't have to hate and smear your opponent. Let them do that to themselves with their words.

If we use their same tactics, such as calling those who don't agree with us "brain dead", then we're no better than our opponents, and we will govern no better.

It's Philadelphia where they booed Santa Claus out of the stadium and booed Mike Schmidt (the greatest 3rd baseman in baseball history who played his entire career with the Philadelphia Phillies) during his entire career. Also, the announcer's terribly stupid introduction didn't help Palin any. He says: "Ladies & gentlemen welcome the best hockey mom in the United States." I'm guessing every woman there thought SHE was the best hockey mom, and every husband there thought his wife was the best hockey mom.

They'll boo anyone but what actually happened to Santa was that Eagles fans pelted him with snowballs. Merry Christmas, jerk!

Looks like no one on Team Palin has read Tip O'Neill's "All Politics Are Local"
where he specifically warns politicians from attending sporting events -- it
almost never goes great....

Oh, what crap! It's not clear who's being booed. And I can clearly hear chants of "Sarah...Sarah..."

Don't get me wrong. I don't think Palin is worth spit. But this video is worth much less than spit.

It's not clear who's being booed? She is introduced and walks out as the boos crescendo. So who was being booed then?

For a very interesting assessment of Sarah Palin from a non-American see Jonathan Raban's piece in the London Review of Books:

Well, he certainly displays the typical anti-American bias we've come to expect from the British press. He acts like her asking for resignations on becoming mayor is something unusual. In fact, that is the typical way things are handled in U.S. politics. It's always helpful to examine a situation using analogy, of course.

Thats an exhaustive, reasoned and well presented article specifically listing myriad ways in which Palin is unsuitable for leadership. The airheads who dont like it CANNOT top it or undermine it, probably because they didn't have the attention span to read the whole thing, so they put it down to press bias.

The modern GOP and the candidates it fields are simply nasty people. They are what a democracy does not need. The people who follow them are a dying 20th century breed that fear everything.

Ed Snider the owner of the Flyers is also chairman of COMCAST Cable. As of july 17, he migrated MSNBC to digital, which means for most of us had to get a more expensive level of cable service and get a cable box in order to get MSNBC. This makes it harder and more expensive to get shows like Countdown with Keith Obermann, Hardball and the Rachel Maddow Show. I always suspected it was a political move, but now with him having Palin drop the first puck of the season, my suspicion has been confirmed. He migrated MSNBC to censor it as much as possible. Note that FOX and CNN were not migrated. This means that even after Feb 17, 2009, when everything goes digital, I will still need to keep a special box and pay for a higher level of cable to get MSNBC. A COMCAST rep. confirmed that for me.

I thought the courts ruled Comcast can't do this. They was also limiting web access to lower paying customers.

sure there were alot of boos, but I'd have to say there was alot of applause going on as well. Par for the course for any politician at an event like that. Let's face it people, people like her because she is new and exciting, much like Obama. They each share that characteristic, just as they share the same massive liability - just not enough experience. You want a to see a glimpse of an Obama presidency? Take a look at Deval Patrick in Mass - guy was a walking gaffe/mistake machine his first year, and his goal of "bringing people together" has failed where the real need is strong, executive leadership skills. The presidency is not the Harvard Law Review.

sure, the fact of Obama's election itself could be great for the country, but is that sole reason good enough to elect him? During these hard economic times, increased taxes on the job makers (those making more than 250,000) may drive us deeper into recession. Serious responses?

Comparing Obama and Palin is ludicrous. You realize that, don't you? Or do you get all your info from Hannity?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:46 PM on 10/12/2008

Real original response. Obviously, the reason Obama is not running away with this thing like any good democrat should after Bush's eight years is his massive lack of experience, particularly when compared with a guy who clearly is ready to lead. That's one of my points. Obama clearly is a gamble. Believe me, McCain is no walk in the park, but Obama, like Palin, lacks the requisite experience for the job.

If someone thinks that I'm voting for Obama b/c he's African-American, that's their problem for not not bothering to learn about his work and progress from the time that he graduated law school, through his time in the State Senate in Indiana, to US Senator, to the proposals he's offering now. If, after all this time you haven't heard him talk about health care and his tax proposals (even CNN had a chart up comparing the two candidates' plans), then it's your ignorance or predisposed opinions that are preventing you. I can't change your mind - only you can, by learning about the candidates yourself. (Of course you'd be hard pressed to figure out what McCain's talking about since he's been all over the map and can't really explain any of the random crap he's talking about.)

Bump.

The Republican ticket this election is the first ticket in history in which both candidates have ethics violations.
The laundry list of their problems and ineptitude is astounding (ugh, seriously, it's ludicrous that people ignore Keating 5, white supremacist Singlaub, Rick Davis' receiving $ from Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac through August, 2008 as well as McCain aides that are currently FM/FM lobbyists, his gambling problems, his notorious temper (among other examples, have people not seen him in Senate Hearings?), his military record (being a POW saved him), and his disgraceful handling of his campaign tactics, despite declaring he would never do that?) And Palin's horrific example of executive management: NOT the balanced budget she proclaims (Alaska's the biggest welfare state in the nation!), the rape kits, ethics violations w/ regard to Troopergate, rabid cronyism, and don't forget Ms. Patriotic herself only a few months ago giving speeches and lauding the efforts of the organization to which her husband belongs: AIP, which seeks to secede from USA. Their hate-filled messages and accusations are laughable only because they are ridiculous assertions. Unfortunately, it's also become increasingly dangerous and scary when you see what they've done, how they've incited these angry mobs and divided our country further. Even Cindy McCain rounds out the political family with her dad a convicted felon because of his organized crime activity and her addiction to prescription meds., embezzling money from her charity organization to support her habit.

Staciel199; the notion of trickle down and thus 'pure' free market economics just does not work. I realize that my words will not sway you. So how about trying the words of some of the leading economists of the lats 20 odd yrs? No I am not citing the usual suspects you sometimes may see on Huffington post, I was instead referencing pretty much every noble laureate in Economics since Nash. To allay your fears of Obama's economic policies why not spending some time googling the names, and doing some reading. Or if you are feeling quite ambitious, look to John Grey's book "False Dawn".

Stacie, I agree the reception was mixed, but you're posting this on a liberal blog, so expect some heat. This was Philly--and although Pennsylvania as a whole tends to lean right on many issues, Philly is not representative of Pennsylvania.

I think having the first black or the first female elected will be great for the country. I think Obama is attractive and charismatic, and he speaks with authority. People have mostly been ignoring his lack of experience while attacking Palin's--probably because he's now had time to develop a platform and become conversant in it, while she's had 6 weeks to prep. I think both are bright and capable.

I also watched Jimmy Carter elected by a landslide, and he was another nice guy who really cared about people and also was very smart and not a Washington insider. Although he was a dismal failure as president, he used his experience in the White House to open doors so he could do the work that fits him best--much like the work Obama seems to excel at. So I can't say it was all bad.

I'd be a little more comfortable with McCain as president, but not a lot.

This is one of the main reasons I have turned on the Republican Party. It has become controlled by the fear-mongering, whiny blowhards such as Hannity and Bill-o. This outrageous claim that the mainstream media is biased against them is absurd. If they are so biased against the right then why have they stopped performing their duties the last 8 years and let Bush and Cheney get away with what they did. A responsible, fair media would have raised some objections. Maybe they were afraid of the FAUX propaganda machine whining and lying some more about "the liberal media". Liberal media my ass!
