Jose Canseco Detained At US Border For Fertility Drug

Jose Canseco was held for nearly 10 hours by immigration authorities after agents said they stopped the former baseball star with a fertility drug as he returned from Mexico, his lawyer said Friday.

Canseco was detained at San Diego's San Ysidro border crossing Thursday after agents searched his vehicle and said they found human chorionic gonadotropin, which is illegal without a prescription, said his attorney, Gregory Emerson.

Emerson declined to say if Canseco had the drug, which is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency for use in males.

The New York Daily News earlier reported the stop.

A spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Virginia Kice, said Canseco was ordered to appear in federal court in San Diego "related to an alleged smuggling violation" Thursday at a U.S. border crossing. She declined to elaborate.

Canseco has not been charged with a crime, Kice said. If he were to be charged, it would happen at his court appearance.

Many of you are confusing the Border Patrol with Customs Agents. Customs and Immigration Officers work at the Points-Of-Entry...and they have about 30 seconds per person on average to determine if that person can come into our country or not...REGARDLESS of what language the person speaks...give these guys a break. The Border Patrol patrols the borders BETWEEN the Points-Of-Entry apprehending individuals who blatantly go around the inspection process. BP agents are often working alone in the middle of no where and often arresting groups of 15 or more individuals at a time BY THEMSELVES...how many cops do THAT? Give these guys a break too. Quit whining about the "BIG BAD SYSTEM" and educate yourselves about what the various departments and agencied do before you thrash them in a public forum. These are regular folks doing jobs with the odds stacked against them...and your bad press does not help. Walk in their shoes for a day.
