Sarah Palin is an easy target, unfortunately for her its not just her character some are aiming for.

Cindy McCain is beginning to look more than a little strained. Standing on a stage with Sarah Palin she has pursed lips and looks very uncomfortable. This can not be a very good fit. The Joe Six Pack Girl meets Blue Blood millionairess. Saturday Night LIve should do a comedy skit on their relationship. Throw into the mix John McCain's serial cheating and things get interesting.

The late night comics are having a field day with this election especially with all the craziness coming from the Republicans. Sarah Palin has been a gift and continues to provide such great material the comedians barely need to change the dialog if at all like in the Tina Fey portrayal of the Katie Couric interview. I think we all need to laugh though because tensions have been a bit too high as the Republican mob has fueled a hateful fire in America. With the economy in a recession, and the serious tone of the campaigns, a little laughter sometimes is the recipe.

With all due respect to faith it is faith that utlimately gives way to intelligence. for example faith gave way to gallileo's theory that the sun and not the is the center of the solar system. Faith doesn't explain why one gets cancer faith allows us to continue to search for the cure to cancer. I agree faith and intelligence do not have to be at odds, however, intelligence, that which we can see and prove should always take precedence over faith. For that which we can see and prove allows us to begin a discussion from the same point rather we agree or disagree.

perhaps, but faith can take away fear and lets us go on in spite of fear.
Some of the best things can happen when someone is fearless.

Faith is a byproduct of fear.

Question, SNL viewers:

Was it a rerun last night? Or a new one?

That is so sad. I wonder after 8 years of anti-intellectualism propagated by the right and their evangelical base will finally come to the realization that intellect trumps faith.... always!

I, as a person of faith, take a little bit of offence to that. I believe that you can be a smart person and still be a person of faith. I also believe that you can be a person of faith without trying to FORCE your beliefs on everyone else in the world. McCain and Palin are just trying to USE the people of faith which has gotten ME upset.

I seem to recall the words "turn the other cheek." Your taking offense is a sin of pride. I recommend more reading of Paul.

i take offence to that. intelligence and faith actually go hand in hand but it is faith that trumps intelligence because intelligence ( as we describe it ) is usually based on things we see, feel, touch, smell and otherwise. faith is what is needed to explain and understand the vastly larger part of life that we can't see, feel, touch, smell and otherwise. intelligence tells us that a person who has lived a healthy life suddenly has cancer. only through faith can we understand why.

with regard to politics, i have always maintained that modern politics and religion do not go together. two different ends. two different means. this election, like most, point that out. it's sad to see christian brothers and sisters supporting mccain even though he has run a most dishonorable campaign.

"only through faith can we understand why." Ever hear of medicine?

Two words -- natural selection. I recommend you read up on this fascinating subject.

thanks for that comment - i wish there were more people out there like you and that they were more vocal. john mccain and sarah palin have run a campaign that contradicts everything christ ever said - and at the same time - they are sure they have the christian vote. sarah palin thinks catholics are agents of satan. why would anyone who considers themselves to be christian vote for these two vicious people?

i alos ge tired of the intellect trumps faith BS - if that's true - why did einstein say he did not believe that god plays dice with the universe? And bitsko - ever spend much time with cancer surgeons? i've never met one who did not believe in miracles - whether they wanted to or not.

"intelligence tells us that a person who has lived a healthy life suddenly has cancer. only through faith can we understand why."
That appears to be the case today. Perhaps within the next twenty years we will discover, through science and medicine, why a seemingly healthy person develops cancer. That discovery will be made by an intelligent person (or people), who may be entirely irreligious.
I don't believe either trumps the other. However, the sum of both is far more than each alone.

Don't be too sure of that. I am a Democrat, and a Christian. Let me explain what I'm talking about, and then maybe you'll see what I'm saying.

I have never in my life seen with MY OWN EYES the following:
1. an atom 7. My own DNA
2 an electron 8. protons
3. a quark 9. a giant squid
4. the wind 10. a whale
5. oxygen 11. a virus
6. molecules 12. a white blood cell
Do I believe they exist? Yes. Why? Because I believe the people who tell me they exist. I've seen pictures of some of them, but pictures can be faked. I take it on FAITH that they exist.

ellawensmom,

You believe in those things because you have seen their effects and have seen that their effects are consistent to the point of being usable to predict their effects. Prayer to an invisible god which does not provide consistent results which can be seen is very different. There is a big difference in faith in the effects which can be seen and predicted by everyone as opposed to faith in something that is not seen by anyone and cannot be predicted by anyone. That is faith in one's own world view and cannot be expected to be shared by others.

No, perhaps intellect doesn't trump faith, but faith in a supernatural should not be used to define that natural world.

You need someone to tell you that the wind exists? You really need to get out more.

I am amused by the contortionist tricks of intelligent folks trying to reconcile their knowledge with their belief in magic, but for cryin' out loud! Get over it. The bible was written by dirt farmers and animal sacrificers, people desperate for the knowledge we take for granted. The way to honor our ancestors is not to defend their belief in magic, but to use our knowledge and our incredible minds to reach deeper truths about where we came from, where we're going, and the connections between all living things. Science and technology have done more to dismiss paganism, honor our parents, give us the time to honor the Sabbath, prevent murder/war, and so on... than entire religious texts.

If you really believe in G-d, stop defending magic!

Obama voted to not fund Cindy's son personally?

Do they vote on equipment for each member of the armed forces separately?

That must take some time.

yeah, she also got acold chill in her brain when McCain voted against funding her son.

But she is only blaming Obama ....

mccain did not vote to fund the troops - same bill as obama. the problem wasn't the troops - it was the bill. cindy either was not told or chose to ignore it - or was so badly informed she didn't think anyone would notice. in any case, cindy mccain's chills are not coming from any congressional votes - they are very common to the medical condition she suffers from - morphine addiction.
