Now that Sarah Palin has been found to have abused her powers, violated state ethics, and lied about it, I did a little digging and found an interesting historical footnote.

The McCain/Palin ticket is the first in American history in which both candidates were found to have violated ethics standards before a national election.

Right now, for the last week,there has been an e-mail campaign and on radio, MSM, the McCAin talking heads, and McCain himself are doing a swiftboating of Obama and the Democrats and nobody, not barack or the MSM has fact checked and corrected the smear.

The smear is this:

The financial crisis that has struck the world, rests squarely on the shoulders of Obama, dodd, and Franks. Somehow a bill, regarding accounting issues not lending issues, that never made it to the house or senate floor, during the 109th republican majority congress, regarding fannie and freddie, is now the fault of the democrats.. Apparently, the lie is that we blocked this bill and if we handn't the financial crisis of the world would not have happened.

All of the republicans keep saying this over and over on the MSM, and radio and in e-mails. Obama better get an ad out quick and set this lie straight. People are so dumb, they will believe it if we don't correct them.

This is a swiftboating of the tallest order. At this time I have not seen an Obama ad addressing this lie. Nor, have I seen CNN, forget fox, debunk the bunk.

The truth is called "derivatves" and "credit default swaps". These instruments were the cause for 49 Trillion dollars in "mixed" securities that contained a small portion of which was Fannie and Freddie backed "sub-prime" mortgages. This small portion of of low rated security was then bundled with highly rated securities and then insured by companies as "credit default" insurance so as to limit investor liability, these were then securitized and sold to back other "investment products" and the ponzi scheme continued and grew when the SEC changed the debt ratio to 40:1. So all of this is laissez-faire Republican oversight. The allowance of banks and mortgage companies to provide sub-prime loans in an expanding home equity boom with little or no oversight was the problem, not the loans which should have not been marketed to risky customers in an unscrupulous way was another Republican oversight issue. They controlled congress and the executive and were at the wheel of the ship of state when it hit the iceberg.

I heard that one too. As a Christian and a Minister I was repulsed. There are a whole lot of reasons why God might do anything, but to uphold his reputation isn't one of them. They already think their God is bigger than His God or they would prefer his God. There is also an admonition in scripture not to tempt God. To challenge God to do what you want as if you know what he wants, in order to prove he is God is over the line by a light year or two. This guy obviously didn't have the nerve to say "and if I am wrong may lightening strike me dead." Probably lucky for him.
