Last night, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., tried to correct some of his more, er, angry and scared supporters, ones who seem to buy into the ludicrous myth that Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., is some sort of Muslim Manchurian candidate.

This morning in Philly, Obama thanked McCain.

See, Senator McCain, this is how a true gentleman operates. Watch and learn.

Once again the inherent racist nature embodied by the southern Democratic Party is on display. As you will recall (and if not then read about) the Civil Rights Acts of 1957, 60, and 64 were all held hostage by the southern Democrats. For the passage of the 1964 it was the minority party at the time, often referred to as the slavery-freeing Republican Party, that rescued the bill.

Now these same Democratic race-baiters have struck the York County, S.C. Republican offices with vandalism (see http://www.heraldonline.com/109/story/877049.html). The problem? It is a black man that is the County chair. As a "Northerner" I had thought, obviously incorrectly, that this type of racial intimidation was long gone. For the Obama campaign and/or his supporters to use hate crimes to reach the Oval Office is both shameful and troubling. Don't forget that ACORN, a supporter of Senator Obama, is proliferative with these type of aggressive and intimidating tactics.

If Obama is a uniter he should apologize immediately. Otherwise I think we may be in for a very rocky 4yrs.

I don't know whether you are racist. The point of your post is not clear. But I sure am certain that you are simple. Thank you for your bold attempt at rebutting the facts.

Obama is soooo gracious. He knows McCain only bowed to pressure to put a lid on it.

I totally agree......Did you notice how Obama was quick to thanking McCain? McCain would only have done that under immense pressure.

When I heard about McCain's sudden conciliary tone about the threatening mobs he and Palin incited against Obama, I got chills. I'd say watch more carefully than ever now.

Come on Obama! This person approved those messages. Why he even sent his attack dog out to deliver the messages. His futile attempt to correct HIS wrong is a misnomer...

If Obama is a Muslim, he will have my vote; if he is Christian, he has my vote; if Obama is Buddhist, he has my vote, if his choice is to be an atheist, he keeps my vote. He has my vote because he is a man of soul, keen intelligence, a cool head, warm heart, humor, grace and elegance. All of these qualities will make President Barack Hussein Obama stand out in history of one of our greatest leaders ever. I so believe in this man.

Agreed, marymansour. Obama is my last hope for continuing to participate in the electoral process. I have been voting since '72 for McGovern, so I'm not new to politics. After the last election, on top of the previous one, I had become so disgusted that when I moved out of the area where I last voted in '04, I didn't register. I wasn't going to. Odd for me, as I've always believed that no one should complain if they don't bother to participate in the process, but that's how sickened I'd become. 2000 was bad enough, but the result of '04 made me feel like I'd been literally punched in the gut. I was sick and depressed for several days. Simply could not believe Bush got reelected.

Thanks to Obama winning the primary, I registered and can't wait to vote. Gonna do it this week.

Great post. I felt just as you did in 2000 and 2004. I wondered if I were living in Bizarro world after the '04 election. I couldn't believe he got re-elected.

The pitbull with lipstick analogy is very appropriate here. Pitbulls are known to attack people who try to be nice to them. Then they get put to sleep. The Obama campaign thanked McCain's for doing what is right the McCain campaign still attacks so come November g'night Old Yeller.

Isn't that like telling the guy thanks for calling the doctor after he intentionally shoots you in the face? Where have I heard this story before. I don't know why that was the only analogy I could come up with.

After seeing some of these people at McCains town hall meeting I have concluded that there is a lot of fearful stupid people in the Republican party.

We should not see their fear as stupid. It has validity. It is hard to imagine, but there is a deep-seated fear some folks have that they will lose their status, their place in society, their superiority, their entitlement to privilege if an inch is ceded to b l a c k s. To them, a b l a c k president for America is an anomaly, a possibility they must fight against to ensure it does not materialize. What we need to do, instead of engaging them in vitriol-fests, is to calmly and clearly tell them we are on the fringes of a new era and that change is inevitable; it's either they learn to swim, or be overwhelmed by the flood.

Young people are bringing this message very calmly to their parents and grandparents, and are getting through to them. I was really pissed at the McCain camp for their efforts to foment strife and hatred in their rallies, especially when the Obama camp didnt fight back. Then I realized they were committed to a clean campaign with families off-limits, and there was no going back on their word. And I alo realized that the audience for a unified America outnumbered those not yet enlightened.

Why hasn't the Govt cracked down on these right wing lunatic pastors who preach God and politics. They should lose their tax expempt status immediately, and/or pay a serious fine.

Because you don't bite the hand that feeds you. Remember, this is the BASE of the Bush Imperium and the Republican Party itself. These are the people that bring the masses to the voting booths. You don't turn those people away just because they spew hate, especially when you need as many of their followers as possible. You coddle them. You give them what they want. You find ways to appease them, such as creating a "Department of God" or by putting them in the Department of Justice, or by putting one of them on the ticket as your running mate.

What Obama should have said... "Thanks for trying to tone it down you crotchety old man, but it's too late and you will be my butler in the White House." Something like that I suppose would work.

I believe none of you were raised with extreme right wing Republicans. As i child i was raised with them and because i was of Jewish faith went through a living hell.

The crowds that Palin draws are the same pople that i was raised with and i will tell you as you know they are very dangerous in there beliefs .

The secret service is excellent at what they do and know what John Mc Cain and Palins has been doing is very dangerous to Barak Obama and they are reacting to it.

I am convinced that the secret service and others sent a message to Mc Cain that he is exploiting a dangerous group of people and that may cause harm aganist Barak.

I know these people and some of them would not think twice about causing harm to Obama the secret service knows this and many regular people know it as well.

Mc Cain knew this also and in my mind he did not care what happened to Barak Obama and was leading these crowds and hoping for some bad outcome.

Please do not belive that John Mc Cain did not know he was baiting these crwods with hate and he understood what extreme people will do.

John Mc Cain not my hero.
