Governor Sarah Palin launched a harsh, frontal attack against Barack Obama on Saturday for the Senator's position on abortion rights.

Appearing in Pennsylvania, the Alaska Republican claimed that Obama had "unconditional support for unlimited abortion," was "vague and evasive on the subject," and held extreme views when it came to life. On several occasions, she took past Obama statements and positions greatly out of context.

Speaking before a generally rowdy Saturday morning crowd, Palin eagerly resurfaced one of the Democratic nominee's most memorable rhetorical flubs from this campaign, only to twist his intent and language.

"[Obama] said that a women shouldn't be quote, punished with a baby," declared Palin.

In actuality, Obama said that he did not want his nine and six year old daughters to be "punished with a baby" should they make a mistake. "I don't want them punished with an STD at the age of 16," he added. "You know, so it doesn't make sense to not give them information."

Later in her campaign rally, Palin accused Obama of supporting partial birth abortion.

"Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan said partial birth abortion was too close to infanticide," she said. "Sen Obama thinks it is a constitutional right, but he is wrong."

Truth be told, Obama has argued on the campaign trail that, "the state can properly restrict late-term abortions," as long as there are provisions "to protect the health of the mother." In the Illinois State Senate Obama voted against a bill that would criminalize the practice of doctors performing partial birth abortions.

In the days after Tuesday's presidential debate there was some complaining among conservatives that so little of the campaign dialogue had focused on social issues. Palin's appearance on Saturday suggests that - in addition to reprising Obama's association with Bill Ayers - the McCain ticket will be renewing the cultural wars through focus on issues like abortion. For its part the crowd in Johnston, Pennsylvania, responded to the red meat the Alaska Governor provided them.

Exactly, no one ever brings up what it would be like if back alley abortions were common place again! If they want to be upset about rare cases where the fetus survives an abortion, how many MORE cases of this would there be in a non-clinical setting where some vet school drop out was preforming them?

Exactly. Well said.

Forcing abortions back underground would be ridiculous. Having an abortion is not a choice the vast majority of would want to make, but taking away that option is a huge uncivilized step backwards.

There are times when having a baby is punishment. I find it amazing that a woman knows so little about what it is like to be a woman. I'm so grateful I'm not her!

the whole abortion debate is absurd. the # of abortions has not drastically increased since it was decriminalized, what's happened is a decrease in dangerous back alley abortions, that is a good thing. we currently have one of the most conservative courts this country has seen in a while, if they wanted to overturn roe v. wade they would, conservatives need to keep it around as a wedge issue. a zygote is nothing more than a mass of undifferentiated cells, that is in no way capable of surviving outside the womb, nobody is being "killed" at the stage where abortion is currently legal. the truly radical person in this debate is sarah palin, who believes that women who are victims of rape or incest should be legally obligated to carry their fetus to term, that is disturbing. we can all agree that there should be efforts to discourage abortion, & encourage consideration of alternatives, but every woman should have the right to make that choice. sarah palin & others like her are the ones who want to shut down the debate on this issue, by outlawing the option of abortion. i'm a catholic and being "pro-life" ought to be about more than this single issue, people ought to be concerned about the psychological and emotional lives of women who are victims of rape or incest, or even just unwanted pregnancies. people also ought to be concerned about issuea of poverty & health care, these are issues central to preserving life.

Thank you, JustLynn, for stating medical facts. It's too bad that the majority behind Palin refuses to even consider facts.

I also agree with LarBear, in that Palin is "Pro-Control." I think we can honestly apply that to those who have openly made their points during both McCain and Palin's rallies.

Honestly, there have been times over the last two months where I have had to sit down and deal with the fact that McCain/Palin might win the election and the impact that it would have on society (Supreme Court appointees, environmentally, and economically speaking). As much as the thought bothered me....I never considered leaving this wonderful country or addressing those with opposing views as "terrorists" or thinking "kill them."

Of the two (McCain/Palin), I think Palin has been more aggressively targeting the people who are beyond control of emotions and actions. She is speaking ONLY to the extreme right, which makes her accusations far more damaging and fueling dangerous fire. Bad things can happen when the issue of abortion comes up....we've all witnessed this first hand.

I keep the faith in the Independents, who I think are above the "smear."

...I hope I'm right on this one.

This is what I say to Sarah about this BS she constantly dishes up about the Pro_life Pro_choice issue
Obama is NOT saying abort abort abort !!
He Understands that things happen to Women that WE as Woman do not ask for or did not ask for! I am speaking of Rape and Molestation!!!!
If I as a Woman or a Teenager or at anytime when I can become impregnated were RAPED or MOLESTED and I became pregnant with this horrible persons fetus I should have the RIGHT to ABORT!! WE as Women suffer on a Daily Basis after this Horrible violation as been committed against us. I do not need another issue on top of that to cause me more emotional distress!! I have to take care of Myself First so that I can be a Functioning Person in Society,!! I do not need a Constant reminder of what happened to me Without my Permission!
It takes a Mentally disturbing tole on most! Some have killed them selves because of these horrific Acts or have Tried !
Obama is NOT SAYING use Abortion as a means of Birth Control he absolutely is not!
He is saying use that right carefully do not abuse it!
Obama Understands & does Respect us as Women he knows what reality is!
No one is going to tell Me to carry a Fetus of a child Molester or Rapist !!!

I do NOT believe Sarah Palin is anti abortion... Sarah is Pro Control of Others... If one Love's and cares for others, one recognizes their Free Choice.... Sarah is all about Control, not freedom... Sarah's world is of black/ white (how appropriate actually) and right/ wrong (all according to Sarah's beliefs of course).... Life is all about Control and Compliance... LQQk to her GOD belief for confirmation...

OK I MUST SAY SOMETHING
lets not be putting God down, it is fine that she believes in God
it is NOT fine to use God for ones conveniences!

We ALL need to be very careful of how we are throwing GODS name around, out on these Blogs!
Yes I have stated things about God, In reference to Sarah's Beliefs, Because I am Pentecostal and I know of Her Beliefs and how Much they differ what she is saying and doing! Her and her husbands Behaviors if you will!
Do I believe in God YES and He will make each of us answer to what ever we put out here so lets not be putting someone down for what they believe! Instead LQQk to her actions there is where you place your Judgement, But do not Mock GOD!

GingersPawPaws...

Re-read... I clearly referred to Sarah Palin's, GOD BELIEF, not GOD... People say they believe in the Bible... My observation... People use the Bible to rationalize THEIR BELIEFS...

Believing in the Bible, one understands, it is NOT written by GOD, or Jesus, but was written by Person's claiming as to what others, including GOD and Jesus, supposedly said...

Clearly also, this supposed Biblical GOD created most all Life as male and/ or female, except Humans, of which GOD created one IT, since to be a Man, or Male, one needs a Female... (Imagine a one dimensional coin... No front/ back, heads/tails... A photo of a coin is one dimensional)...

Then WE are supposed to believe this BIBLICAL GOD, this INTELLIGENCE, after installing this IT by ITSELF, on a Planet, in a Garden of Eden, suddenly realized there was no Female... Yet unlike creation of all other Life, GOD put the IT to sleep and created a Female from the IT.......

So, this INTELLIGENCE, set the Human Race up for INCEST, because that is the only way beyond a first Generation starting with ONE (plus) Another, created of Genetics of the ONE...

You may think I do NOT believe in GOD... You would be wrong... I do believe ALL Life is of Intelligent Godly Nature... Yet I speak NOT as to whether GOD is a who, or what GOD is/ isn't, but that I recognize mine is a Belief, not GOD....

funny thing.....obama has already said its the law and between a woman and her doctor.

i have always wundered if this staunch pro-life stance would not be soooo that there a number of men available at the next drop of a hat war from the repubs??...i've always wundered how can u be pro-life when u wage unnecessary wars?????

another funny thing.....HISTORICALLY and statically there are less abortions performed during the democratic administrations!!!...duh, wunder why that happens.

"OK, ya guys, ya Joe 6-packs everywhere, we gotta stop this ..." I'm tired of this woman's serious slips into dream-land; not a realistic utterance in the past 72-hours. It's time we all agreed that psychotherapy, with a board-certified psycho-analyst is de rigueur for anyone in office, with weekly sessions to 'stay in touch' for the prez and VP, Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, and Treasury, minimally. There’s nothing wrong with protecting one's mental health, and it should be expected that we can be assured that everything is being done to help those in leadership, yet protect our country, and the earth's peoples.

There is something very wrong with a nation that permits obviously disturbed individuals from running for office, and the House and Senate swearing them in. This has to stop, now, or our nation will end very soon. Both of these candidates are functioning on half-a-loaf, if that. There's no excuses for McCain's team to have gotten away with their rhetoric, lies, scare-tactics, and irresponsible actions (like bringing in Palin). They've obviously forgotten that many of us were alive and well in the 60s, and remember Viet Nam, and the protestors - and KENT STATE.

McCain a hero for protecting his ass? Not on your life. Heros are people who deliberately risk their lives, fortunes, and fame for others - not themselves.

How much more of this are we going to take?

This is for Marcus...who likens abortion to ki*lling 7 year olds....

As an RN let me tell you this....the earliest a "fetus" has ever been born and survived outside the womb is about 22 weeks...most states only allow abortions until 16 weeks...up until that point, the fetus is just that, a "fetus", it cannot survive outside the womb...it is NOT a living, breathing, thinking human being...and NO ONE, not me, not you, and not the government, has the RIGHT to tell anyone that they MUST carry that fetus to term...All you right-wing Chr*istians need to remember you LOVE God, you ARENT God....

Your arguement is ridiculous and inflammatory....

Just Lynn..smart gal! I too am an RN (retired) I'm old enough to remember botched abortions done in dirty hotel rooms or by the frightened woman herself ; dying in the ER as it was against the law to go to a sterile hospital & receive care. We were helpless at the point she came to us; both died in most cases or she was never to have a child in the future. I think your reply was smart & to the point. People forget what this was like before women were allowed to have a choice. It is for each person. End of story; Gov, OUT!

JustLynn Since you seem to be so knowledgable in this issue, can you please tell me when life begins?

The fact is, your arguement is ridiculous. There is no point in the pregnancy that scientists can determine that life begins, other than conception. It seems to me that you think life begins at 22 weeks, which is just stupid. The fact that the child can't live outside the womb, is becuase it hasn't finished growing yet. Not becuase it isn't living.

REFRAME THE DEBATE: We are ALL pro-chice.
The question is are we PRO-GOVERNMENT choice or PRO-INDIVIDUAL choice???
You don't know whether Obama and his wife would condone an abortion for their familiy members or not. Personally, I trust my mother, cousins, my sisters and my friends to make their own decisions more than I would ever trust the government to make a decision for them.
Don't we trust our American women to make our own decisions?????
Obama is the right man at the right time.
YES WE CAN.
BARACK THE VOTE!

Enough of you Sarah Palin! Enough of your racism, ignorance, and pandering to the uneducated Joe six-packs and hockey moms. Our country was a better place before you became a candidate for Vice President of the United States of America and John McCain was a better man before he met you. We will all be better off when you return to Alaska.
