Governor Sarah Palin launched a harsh, frontal attack against Barack Obama on Saturday for the Senator's position on abortion rights.

Appearing in Pennsylvania, the Alaska Republican claimed that Obama had "unconditional support for unlimited abortion," was "vague and evasive on the subject," and held extreme views when it came to life. On several occasions, she took past Obama statements and positions greatly out of context.

Speaking before a generally rowdy Saturday morning crowd, Palin eagerly resurfaced one of the Democratic nominee's most memorable rhetorical flubs from this campaign, only to twist his intent and language.

"[Obama] said that a women shouldn't be quote, punished with a baby," declared Palin.

In actuality, Obama said that he did not want his nine and six year old daughters to be "punished with a baby" should they make a mistake. "I don't want them punished with an STD at the age of 16," he added. "You know, so it doesn't make sense to not give them information."

Later in her campaign rally, Palin accused Obama of supporting partial birth abortion.

"Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan said partial birth abortion was too close to infanticide," she said. "Sen Obama thinks it is a constitutional right, but he is wrong."

Truth be told, Obama has argued on the campaign trail that, "the state can properly restrict late-term abortions," as long as there are provisions "to protect the health of the mother." In the Illinois State Senate Obama voted against a bill that would criminalize the practice of doctors performing partial birth abortions.

In the days after Tuesday's presidential debate there was some complaining among conservatives that so little of the campaign dialogue had focused on social issues. Palin's appearance on Saturday suggests that - in addition to reprising Obama's association with Bill Ayers - the McCain ticket will be renewing the cultural wars through focus on issues like abortion. For its part the crowd in Johnston, Pennsylvania, responded to the red meat the Alaska Governor provided them.

She is proud of the choice she would have the government deny all women. And not only does she oppose Abrtion in rape cases, but would charge the victims for the kit.

Think about it - if a man took these positions, most women would loathe him on a ticket.

The majority of you are so inconsistent in your ethics. If in the world today, there was a campaign to murder 1 out of every 5 kids who were 7 years old or 5 or 3 or 1 you would be outraged. But if the kids have been in the womb for 5 months you have no problem with it - it is a choice. Does that not bother you? Most people stop being consistent in their ethics when they don't like the obvious outcome! It is at that point that you start calling good evil and evil good. So many so similar to you weren't given a choice - their life was just snuffed out.

Before you jump down my throat - please see my other posts about being pro-adoption and pro helping the poor...and I don't just talk about it.

Your argument against abortion are a religious one (or personal belief), not based on facts.

I personally would never have an abortion (and I was a teen mother), but I would never impose my personal belief on someone else.

Straw Man. Extremely few abortions occur at 5 months or later. And many of those that do are in cases where the mother's life is in danger.

I am pro life and I have Voted pro life before, but to what end?

In my adult life all Presidents except Clinton were pro life. Reagan and both Bushes were pro life but have done nothing about abortion. They just use it as a cultural wedge issue every election cycle. Eight years ago Bush ran on this and for 6 years the Republicans ran every branch of government and STILL did nothing of value about it. Meanwhile they bankrupt the country and started wars. How does that encourage women to bring their babies to term when the future looks bleak? I am the adoptive mother of three kids from foster care so I put my money were my mouth is but I am done being lead by the nose by the Republicans. They don't really care, They just want to win elections.

As an RN let me tell you this....the earliest a "fetus" has ever been born and survived outside the womb is about 22 weeks...most states only allow abortions until 16 weeks...up until that point, the fetus is just that, a "fetus", it cannot survive outside the womb...it is NOT a living, breathing, thinking human being...and NO ONE, not me, not you, and not the government, has the RIGHT to tell anyone that they MUST carry that fetus to term...All you right-wing Chr*istians need to remember you LOVE God, you ARENT God....

Except for the Sarah Palin's of the US, most Americans belive in the concept of choice; if not for themselves but for others. The Repubs know this and except for her only give lip service.

We already know that those who have made up their minds on this issue are not going to change them. The disappointing thing to know is that the "born agains" that I know were former drug users, practiced methods or used birth control, though usually did not practice safe sex and at some point in their lives had an abortion. I guess when you're "saved", the memory bank gets wiped clean.

She knows not what she speaks, nor do her friends evidently because they use the word choose quite frequently. I chose to have Trigg, my daughter chose to have this baby. Gee, isn't it wonderful to be able to choose? You can have all the children you want, or you can make a decision otherwise if you've been raped or assaulted by a member of your family, a stranger, or someone who you thought was your friend.

Real woman want choices!! No, Sarah, we do not like your rigidity on abortion. Let every woman decide what's best for her and let's not say it's God's will that she became pregnant.

Please pass this link around: http://extras.mnginteractive.com/live/media/site163/2008/0721/20080721_111415_PalinLetterofRecomend.pdf

It's a letter written by Sarah Palin recommending her brother-in-law for a job as a state troooper back in 2000. You'll be amazed at her glowing impression of him. Just proves that she wasn't afraid of him, just mad that he left her sister. Pass it on!

Obama voted against a bill in the Illinois senate that protected a child born alive after a botched abortion. This same bill was passed UNANIMOUSLY in the Congress. The case was brought about by a nurse who found a LIVE baby in a linen closet and held it until it died. Obama is not who he says he is ; but he is for change yippeeee

Lies & rubbish!! Obama does not have any sort of "unconditional support for unlimited abortion" ... stop the madness!!

If such hypocrites such as Palin & Mc were so unconditionally supportive of "LIFE" why did Mc vote against that health care bill for CHILDREN!? And, why won't Palin support properly s ex education for Alaskan schools ... or for that matter teach her own children "safe" se x!?? Stats are that abortion rates and lower under democratic leadership ... and under reThugs HIGHER!!!

It is true look it up. I dare you. Health care for children: The dems want all children under socialized medicine so that they will have something to hold over the parents heads. The dems were trying to give subsidised health care to families making OVER 80,000 dollars and parents were dropping their insurance at work to get "Free" healthcare.

Teach your own kids safe sex. I'm sure she did and abstinence. Many girls who have had sex ed and been handed condoms STILL get pregnant. It is amazing.

It takes an amazing capacity for rationalizing to over look all that Obama is.

So during the six years that the Republicans had control of the White House, the House, the Senate and a repub appointed supreme court, what legislation did they enact on the issue of abortion? Why didn't they take on Roe v. Wade with all of that political capital?

That's a good point. I think the issue is used as a wedge issue. They have no intention of doing anything about it. But it brings out the votes in an election year. This year might be different though.

jacq8411 you will have a long time to wait. Citizens of the US are tired of temper tantrums from right-wing extremists. The Republican party is being put in "time-out" by voters.

The more this woman opens her mouth, I can see why she couldn't answer the question about something so simple as what she reads; maybe a better question would be, can she?, Obama's stand on abortion has been very clear; even if you can't read, just listen to him; I have, and I haven't had the privilege of attending several colleges; I take my one vote in this most important election that seriously!)
If the McCain camp didn't have time to teach her to research her topics, than at least do a better job of what you spoon feed her; or just let her start ranting about, moose, snow moblies, hockey(well, that did't do much good...); I really wonder how she ever made it to the Gov.s office; but, it seems like her husband dude seems to be running that for her. How could anyone still be "undecided" in this election is amazing;
must be a lot of people out there who can't read, or just take for granted what ever they hear. Ms.Palin,
you don't have a clue.

They are preaching to the choir on this issue. Those who have decided not to vote for Obama because of his views on abortion have already made up their minds.

The undecideds are not deciding on abortion rights, they are deciding on who can help them survive the economic crisis. Who will give them a tax cut and who will create jobs in their community.

As the front page states, the message of McCain and Palin is not resonating with the voters. They are making the same mistake Hillary made. Just as she changed her message to fit the audience, so does McCain. It did not work for Hillary and it won't work for McCain.

They probably won't because they really don't believe in individual choice, somewhat. Palin chose to have her last child when she knew that there was a problem. It was her choice but she and the other crazies don't want other women to have the same right to choose that she had. The point is this. How can she say that it is ok for a mother to have an abortion if the mother's life is in danger? That is contradictory to her stance on the baby's right to life. Go figure!

Actually the Criminal-In-Chief of Alaska is the ONLY one who espouses an UNCONDITIONAL position on abortion. In her byzantine worldview, a woman can NEVER have one...even if she is RAPED or it's a case of INCEST.

NOBODY on the planet is "for" abortions in the sense that they ENCOURAGE people to have one. But a woman should ALWAYS have control of her own body and make the best choice for herself. And no woman should ever be FORCED to have a baby after being raped, much less have to PAY the police for a rape kit, as Ms. Wolf Killer believes.

CHOICE is exactly that....a CHOICE. Her way is NO CHOICE.

Unconditionally anti choice!!

That One says anything that That One thinks will fire up the crowd without regard to the truth. Truth is not what That One measures her words by, but the potential for instilling hatred is. That One should go back to the backward, incestuous, closed mind dinky town where That One is from, so she can be comfortable among her simpleminded, bigot neighbors and friends.
