Governor Sarah Palin launched a harsh, frontal attack against Barack Obama on Saturday for the Senator's position on abortion rights.

Appearing in Pennsylvania, the Alaska Republican claimed that Obama had "unconditional support for unlimited abortion," was "vague and evasive on the subject," and held extreme views when it came to life. On several occasions, she took past Obama statements and positions greatly out of context.

Speaking before a generally rowdy Saturday morning crowd, Palin eagerly resurfaced one of the Democratic nominee's most memorable rhetorical flubs from this campaign, only to twist his intent and language.

"[Obama] said that a women shouldn't be quote, punished with a baby," declared Palin.

In actuality, Obama said that he did not want his nine and six year old daughters to be "punished with a baby" should they make a mistake. "I don't want them punished with an STD at the age of 16," he added. "You know, so it doesn't make sense to not give them information."

Later in her campaign rally, Palin accused Obama of supporting partial birth abortion.

"Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan said partial birth abortion was too close to infanticide," she said. "Sen Obama thinks it is a constitutional right, but he is wrong."

Truth be told, Obama has argued on the campaign trail that, "the state can properly restrict late-term abortions," as long as there are provisions "to protect the health of the mother." In the Illinois State Senate Obama voted against a bill that would criminalize the practice of doctors performing partial birth abortions.

In the days after Tuesday's presidential debate there was some complaining among conservatives that so little of the campaign dialogue had focused on social issues. Palin's appearance on Saturday suggests that - in addition to reprising Obama's association with Bill Ayers - the McCain ticket will be renewing the cultural wars through focus on issues like abortion. For its part the crowd in Johnston, Pennsylvania, responded to the red meat the Alaska Governor provided them.

Thanks but no thanks Sarah...... I don't need you or anyone telling me what I can do with my body. This is wrong for government to push! You say you don't like government getting involved... stay the hell out!

Am I eligible for that $5K tax credit at the TIME OF CONCEPTION or does the child have to be...well...you know... born, issued a birth certificate, and SSN before all the joyous benefits of the McCain/Palin healthcare tax credit kick in?

Oh wait...this just in from my Uterus...."Thanks but No Thanks"

Besides Sarah being mean and down right hateful..... is the abortion issue all this woman can talk about??? I find her to be very ignorant and stupid. She uses her kids as props and political talk. I find it sickening. Get her out of here!

I am pro life but I am sick of being manipulated and harassed with this issue.

They run on this issue EVERY election but they never do anything about it anyway. I am an independent swing voter and I am going with O and Joe this year.

Bush ran on this platform but here we are eight years later and abortion is still legal. The only thing that has changed is we are in two wars (with a third looming), the country is bankrupt and my 401k is gone. Four more years of this and MY family will be @borted. The Republicans never will do anything to change @bortion laws because they just want to use it as a wedge issue to fan emotions every election cycle. they can count me out.

You are so right! They promise but they don't deliver.

Many of us who are pro-choice are really against abortion, but realize desperate women have been doing this since time began, and will continue to do so.

People who want to reduce abortion--if they really cared--would do a campaign of education like the anti-smoking campaigns. Those have worked. People changed their minds.

To end abortion you have to change their minds--and not after they are already pregnant. Educate young people early on. And provide lots of MONEY, since most girls (and older women) do it because of money. And counseling, and support for adoption, or for communal shared living so women can keep their children and still pursue their dreams. Why should a child force her to lose everything while the guy gets off to the next girl? Why is this just a woman's problem? Make him pay.
Outlawing it won't ever work anyway, but this would help. Politicians don't really care, yet.

Amen!

If you want to reduce abortion then give lots of support to people who need it to survive and thrive. How can running the country into economic ruin and creating world war and turmoil possibly encourage young women and struggling families to bring another mouth to the table? How many people can afford a new baby at this time?
Republicans don't really want to change abortion laws because they need it to be legal for their "culture" war wedge. More needy babies= more social programs, which the republicans don't support.

I am pro life but I refuse to let the Republicans get a vote from me on this issue EVER again. I will continue as I have done for years, helping my neighbors in need and supporting women who choose life but as far as politicians, forget it, they don't do anything anyway, and when they do it is some crazy stunt like Terri Schivo, that is intrusive and disgusting.
I've had enough.

Usually, in debate, which I teach, you accuse your opponent of taking an extreme position in opposition to your own, because you can counter that your position is not absolutist, but more moderate.

All I can say about Ms. Palin's attack, is that she has not taken my debate class. And that she does not understand that her position on abortion is the most extreme and absolutist position that anyone can take.

By definition, her attack on Obama's position on abortion is demagoguery. Obama believes in a woman's right to choose. And if a woman chooses to have her child, he supports that too. That is the moderate position.

Really, who gives a F*** about what Sarah Palin has to say at this point?

Now, she's veering off into talking about her personal needs (religious) and her personal values.

Who's she to be lecturing on what others should do regarding their own thinking and morality?

The more I learn of Sarah Palin, her politics and the way she treats her family (as accessories to help her political ambitions) the more I feel I was really unfairly critical of Bristol Palin soon after learning who she is and the situation she got herself in.

If anyone is to be blamed for it, I'm pointing fingers instead at her parents for not being responsible enough (though also to Generic Jock Boyfriend for not keeping It in his pants). Palin has confused politics and parental responsibility into one ugly little package that denied her daughter right to her own decision even before she could be aware that she could have that right. It's not at all about family values when you make it impossible for your family to develop or express their own.

Granted, Bristol's positions on morality and politics could wind up a mirror of her mother's, anyway, but to deny the right to find that position on her own is what I object to most.

Sarah it's called choice. A term you don't advocate. Obama supports the right of the woman to make her reproductive decisions herself. The only thing you seem to feel government should be in charge of is forcing women to bear children even as a result of rape and incest.

Sarah you really need to understand that your dominion is only over YOUR body and no one else.

Sarah I hope you are right about the Rapture....the sooner you ascend to heaven the better it will be on those of us left behind.

I'm pro-choice, but I believe the choice needs to be whether or not to get pregnant, not whether or not to have an abortion. I don't oppose abortion, but I think there are too many abortions and those who are pro-choice need to choose better. Perhaps one day Roe v Wade will be irrelevant.

By the way, if the Christians are right, those left behind will not be better off. Sorry.

All we Christians do not believe the Tim LaHaye books, and actually have faith that God will do as he chooses. Our job is to respond to the commands we have been given, Love God, Love your neighbor.

About the choice issue, first, having sex is not always a choice. Most mature women know that very well. So the pregnancy cannot always be avoided, even though the victim has tried to behave morally.

Some people don't share this moral framework--it is still a free country. God offers everyone 'free will'; why should our government be more interfering than God himself? Of course, these arguments can get convoluted very quickly.

On this issue, the law is irrelevant. Any pregnant teen, or mother of 5, will deal with pregnancy as she sees fit, with or without the law's approval. Legality is the last of her concerns at that time.

Christians who oppose abortion should educate and persuade the population on morality, and stop expecting the government to enforce our code. We don't do that with war, so why abortion?

We should restrict late-term abortions. Women can decide in 4 months what they want. But some late-terms are horribly deformed babies. I cared for one baby once--born without a skull. He lived 3 weeks. What was the point of that? He was so severely retarded he was unconscious. His soul was gone. Most people haven't seen the monsters so they don't understand the heartwrenching decisions.

You are entitled to your opinion but you are not entitled to deciding what a woman should do when she is faced with a pregnancy. That sacred and intimate choice is hers and hers alone. No one.....not you....not me....nor the government has any right to be a party to that decision.

By the way.....Christians are not going anywhere......unfortunately. Sorry.

How much choice does a rapist or a family member give a child or a woman?

Also if you think making abortion illegal will stop the practice then you probably never lived through the era of septic abortions and back alley abortionists. I have.

I have two daughters and I want their reproductive choices to be theirs and no one else.

This is Unethical Sarah trying to hang on to the Conservative base -- that's all. And if she thinks this is going to bring more people onto a sinking ship, she better think again.

Unethical Sarah should just try to completely tell the truth, just once. Campaign on something positive -- just once.

At least Obama doesn't force anything on women. Sarah's approach does. If she doesn't like abortions, she doesn't have to get one.

Palin is a strong advocate of abstinence for the Alaskan schools, which has proven once again to not work.

If you don't want an abortion, don't have one. Period.
What someone else does has NOTHING to do with you.

If you don't want to have a baby, don't get pregnant. Then abortion isn't even an issue, is it?

Sarah Please stay out of My Reproductive Organs. We are Not Living in a Third World Country Yet and in this Modern day age locking Woman Up because they are Pregnant and wish to obtain an Abortion is really hard to Imagine. I really do not think we are going back to the dark ages anytime to soon. How many country's have outlawed an abortion?

This continued debate completely reduces the dignity of life. This carries through to terminal diagnosis where clinical decisions can increase life expectancy and astronomical costs BUT NO QUALITY and continuous care. At what point do we say enough is enough

The Republicans opened Pandora's box and let out all the evils of mankind
— greed, vanity, slander, lying. There is one more thing left in the box.
Democrats, let's open the box on 4. Nov., because it is HOPE.
