Governor Sarah Palin launched a harsh, frontal attack against Barack Obama on Saturday for the Senator's position on abortion rights.

Appearing in Pennsylvania, the Alaska Republican claimed that Obama had "unconditional support for unlimited abortion," was "vague and evasive on the subject," and held extreme views when it came to life. On several occasions, she took past Obama statements and positions greatly out of context.

Speaking before a generally rowdy Saturday morning crowd, Palin eagerly resurfaced one of the Democratic nominee's most memorable rhetorical flubs from this campaign, only to twist his intent and language.

"[Obama] said that a women shouldn't be quote, punished with a baby," declared Palin.

In actuality, Obama said that he did not want his nine and six year old daughters to be "punished with a baby" should they make a mistake. "I don't want them punished with an STD at the age of 16," he added. "You know, so it doesn't make sense to not give them information."

Later in her campaign rally, Palin accused Obama of supporting partial birth abortion.

"Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan said partial birth abortion was too close to infanticide," she said. "Sen Obama thinks it is a constitutional right, but he is wrong."

Truth be told, Obama has argued on the campaign trail that, "the state can properly restrict late-term abortions," as long as there are provisions "to protect the health of the mother." In the Illinois State Senate Obama voted against a bill that would criminalize the practice of doctors performing partial birth abortions.

In the days after Tuesday's presidential debate there was some complaining among conservatives that so little of the campaign dialogue had focused on social issues. Palin's appearance on Saturday suggests that - in addition to reprising Obama's association with Bill Ayers - the McCain ticket will be renewing the cultural wars through focus on issues like abortion. For its part the crowd in Johnston, Pennsylvania, responded to the red meat the Alaska Governor provided them.

I wonder when the Republicans will wake up and realize abortion is a losing issue for them?

Anti-abortion people spend an inordinate amount of time defending the rights of the unborn, but once you're born, it's screw you: no education, no medical care, no food. And for all the rhetoric about the unborn white humans, I notice that all of God's other children, Arabs, Muslims, blacks, browns, yellows are ignored and the animals are slaughtered with abandon.

My God, you are my hero/shero!!

Yes yes yes!!! These people are hypocrites!!

Agreed, as some comedian said (forgive me for not remembering his name), how about going downtown and taking care of some of the already born and quit worrying about the unborn.

All she and McCain have are lies and distortions. Some sheeple will fall for it, of course. We must redouble our efforts to spread the truth about Obama's positions and plans. We must be informed about his policies and what he really has had to say about this and other matters that the McCain/Palin team are trying to sell the people of this nation. Don't miss any opportunity to talk to everyone that you encounter about the truth about our choices in this election.

Yes, WE can! WE MUST! This may be our last chance to reclaim our country and our future.

All this chatter around Palin is proof that McCain's advisors knew how to deflect attention from his horrific
record, deservedly scrutinized, by using Palin as just one more female scapegoat. Let's hope she's his
waterloo.

Does Palin, before her pre-screened admirerers, ever dare to offer her own opinion on abortion? Does she tell her crowds that if one of their daughters is impregnated against her will by a violent criminal that she would, had she the power, insist that the baby be carried to term?

She's more than happy to paint her opponents as extremist ... why doesn't she proudly boast of her own extremism?

She does. She has made her extreme positions on abortion quite public.

That has been McCain's stratigy, say nothing about his platform and a lot about the opponent. Even a guest on Bill Moyer's Journal said that you cannot say McCain will do something even if his voting past indicates it, because he has not made a proposal about it.. Like trying to sneak in the back door and not be responsible... not very transparent..

As I tried to post earlier.........Sarah Palin talks about her commitment to life and yet she allows the brutal practice of aerial hunting of wolves & bears from planes in her state. I don't understand.......

Many of us worked hard signing petitions through Defenders of Wildlife in order to stop this, and yet she upped the ante in 2007 by offering $150 for each foreleg of a wolf. I am hoping many people look at what she has done to these creatures and try to explain her dedication to life. Many scientists have proven her wrong on the issue and yet she still clings to her brutal ways. Very scary.........

Where this woman comes up with this stuff is beyond me. Even Karl Rove couldn't make up such ridiculousness. I wonder if she thinks saying such nonsense is going to help her and her fellow maverick in the polls? If she does, she might just want to read some of those newspapers again.

For the unintelligent, everything is black and white.

Obama's position on choice is far more nuanced than this silly person could ever comprehend.

WHERE IS THE BABY? Is her job over now that she birthed him? She seems like a bad mother to me.

Palin prides herself for spreading untruths. The Maximus company which has gotten rich from government contracts will support her lies to the end.

One would think voters, including women, would be very interested in affordable daycare, education and healthcare, and being able to earn a decent living. Instead of hearing Palin's view of Obama, who has addressed these issues, you would think voters would want to hear what Palin plans to do along these lines. If she has a plan, will it actually work? Since she was supportive of Obama before she was picked VP running mate for McCain, why has she changed her views? Is she going to have us wasting more time fighting about abortion and creationism, when other survival issues are pressing down upon us? Does her impersonation of Bush mean that she will follow in his footsteps, as McCain has already stated he would do? So, you find her cute and clever enough to forget about these important concerns?

That's the sad part, there is no plan from the Republicans whatsoever, except to continue this deragatory tirade of Obama, someone who DARES to campaign based upon issues he belives in. Not the hate filled tirades we're forced to listen to from a party who have no plans for anyone but corporate america.

This abortion issue, is just another way for the Republicans to take the pressure off of them to actually speak of any sort of plans. A party who's airing 100% negative campaign smear commerials, is not interested in helping the american people. They're only interest is in "winning", which they won't be doing.

Unbelievable! She must take us for idiots. All you have to do is go to the "internets" to see Obama's position. The only person with an all or nothing approach to this issue is Sarah Palin. I mean she's so far to the left she's made rape victims pay for their own rape kits. And this is in the state with the highest per capita rapes in the country.

I guess that makes two people in the McCain camp who can't use the "internets".

Excuse me, yellowdogminnesotan. I guess I'm not understanding your position. Are you calling Palin a Leftist? I've always considered her to be a "righteous righter".

Well right is left and left is right? She is definitely to the right of right .

My daughters are 12 and 10. Should something happen to McCain, and the unspeakable happened to one of my daughters, I would be forced to go to Canada to help her. How sad is that?

Should abortion become illegal, the wealthy well connected family would simply have to have their daughter admitted for a "D&C", us comfortable, but unconnected families will travel to Canada, while poor girls will be forced into either being tortured for an additional 9 months or suffer the consequences of a "back room" abortion.

What gets me is Republicans are against Sex Education, Funding of birth control (unlike funding of viagra), welfare, day-care programs, etc. How hypocritical can they possibly be? If they want to FORCE women into having a child, I would expect it would be the "Christian" thing to do to help those families.
Yeah, right.

Ms. Palin needs to spend some time in urban areas and realize the REALITIES those people face on a daily basis.

May God bless you for these comments. You are right on the money with this abortion issue. Once again the wealthy will prevail, or the idiots like Sarah Palin will force their daughter to marry the guilty party and they can live unhappily ever after just to save face for the ambitious mother. Been there.... Done that.....Doesn't work for anyone except the ambitious mom. But then, What the hell?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:03 AM on 10/12/2008

Sarah Palin concerned about anything in "urban" areas? I wouldn't bet on that one.

Now, about abortion. That is a personal thing, it seems. Maybe that is why God gave us the right to CHOOSE--about everything. It is not our responsibility to choose for other people. I am a SERIOUS Conservative Republican mom of 5 who is not voting for McCain/Palin. What I would not choose for myself, I choose not to force on someone else. By the same token, what I DO choose for myself, I don't want someone else to decide to control. (None of us know for sure what we would or would not do were we faced with MOST "difficult" situations. We say what we think we would do and then WHAM! Life smacks us. I do admit I don't understand 'late-term abortions if the baby is beyond 7 months since I have had 2 seven-months-gestation babies who survived and are now adults nearing 30 years old and ) Still, even that is a person's choice.

What is wrong with this woman?
I'm surprised she's so "religious." Does she think this kind of behavior is going to take her to heaven? It's hell she's heading to.

This woman, who believes little girls who are gang-raped, should be forced to have their rapists baby, is one to talk about abortion?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:14 PM on 10/11/2008

Amen. Those girls would have to pay for their rape test-kits too.
