ABC's Political Punch:

On Saturday, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin twice spoke to reporters about the so-called "Troopergate" scandal and the investigative report on whether she had abused her power in trying to get her sister's ex-husband Mike Wooten fired as a state trooper, and for firing Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan one year after she, her staffers, and her husband Todd began unsuccessfully pressuring Monegan to let Wooten go.

Palin spoke on the phone with Alaska reporters about the report. The McCain-Palin campaign only allowed one question per reporter. The journalists came from the Anchorage Daily News, KTVA-Channel 11 and KTUU-Channel 2. No follow-ups were allowed.

I think republicans have been lying for so long that their supporters will no longer listen to the truth.
The lies are so much easier for them to believe. Afterall republican/christians have closed the eye of reason for beliefe. Now that the eyes are closed they can not remember how to open them again.
What a sad shape these people have put our country in!

"You can't play catch-up once you're in the White House."

So true. Yet, that's exactly what Republicans let George Bush do once selected.

He often said, publicly and without regret, that he didn't know much and would have to rely on Condi, Dick, and Rummy to find out what to do!.

Americans allowed this to go on for 8 sickening, destructive years. And look where it got us - hated, reviled, broke, polluted, homeless, without health care, and for many men and women both in the Twin Towers in Manhattan and in the military - dead.

NO PALIN. NO McCAIN. NO SENSIBLE PERSON WOULD ALLOW IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN.

If McCain sees this video, he'l be wanting to trade in Palin for the one young woman.

I susoect, however, she would tell McCain where to go.

What seems to have gotten lost in this is the fact the State Trooper in question should have been fired. His actions are not the actions we as a society should condone from our police officers.

The relevant question isn't whether or not Wooten should have been fired, it's whether or not Palin abused the power of the governor's office to try and achieve that aim. The question has been answered. She did. Overriding the rules of law and/or ethics to promote one's goals is somthing we've seen far too much of with the Bush government. We surely don't need another 4 years of it.

The law allows for punishment of the offender. That means that the trooper, who obviously broke the law, should have been punished for committing crimes. Was he? We don't know for sure, but what we do know is that Palin should have stayed out of the issue once the decision to fire him was made.

Harassing Monegan and trying to force him out of his job was abuse of power. You don't give someone a job, explain their responsibilities, try to do their job for them, and then throw a fit when they don't perform according to YOUR personal vendettas.

My understanding is that the trooper in question was disciplined, but the Palin's weren't happy with his punishment and wanted him fired. It is also my understanding that one of the charges brought against him was poaching a moose three years earlier. What the Palin's didn't mention is that they in fact ate meat from that illegally poached moose at the time and did not report the criminal act - a crime they were accessories to after the fact - until three years later during the divorce. Governor Palin and her husband are not only corrupt and vindictive, they are hypocrites.

There are proper channels for that, those proper channels were used and he was disciplined, but not fired. But being vindictive, self-righteous and considering themselves above the law, Todd and Sarah Palin sought further retribution outside the law. The investigation was into their wrong doing, not the trooper's. That was already taken care of, just not to the Palin's hypocritical satisfaction.

Governor Sarah Palin has claimed that she's an "everyday, working class American", and that "it's time Joe six-pack American is finally represented in the position of vice presidency." I think so too, in the same way that I'd like to see a forklift operator operate on my brain.

Palin explained that her blue collar regularness helps her understand that regular Americans get regularly annoyed when the stock market takes a hit. But that might not be the Joe Six-pack she was talking about. Recent estimates state that the Palin household is worth at least $1.2 million...

Sarah Palin and her husband have pieced together a uniquely Alaskan income that reached comfortably into six figures even before she became governor, capitalizing on valuable fishing rights, a series of land deals and a patchwork of other ventures to build an above-average lifestyle.

It must be a six-pack of that eight-dollar-a-bottle Belgian beer.

The estimate includes 5 properties, a few planes, some boats, and don't forget, the very non-elitist gubernatorial salary of $125K/year, but it doesn't include the $11K the family receives every year in state oil dividends that help enable Alaskans to be so anti-tax.

As a vice-presidential candidate, Palin makes an excellent sportscaster.

It's funny how these far-right loons claim to be Christians when they lie all the time, though I'm sure they've come to terms with it in their own minds as the end justifying the means.

You've raised some very pertinent questions that need to be addressed urgently but, somehow, I don't think they will be because the US media won't force Sarah Palin to give truthful answers to them. But what's significant for me is that while this woman in tandem with John McCain and their campaign are blaming "Obama supporters" for the exposure - in the face of intransigent resistence from herself - of her unethical and illegal behaviour, they and everyone else it would seem conveniently forget that this enquiry began long before Sarah Palin was selected as John McCain's VP pick. Furthermore, on the panel of 12 that carried out the enquiry and which on fact-based evidence reached its damning verdict of Sarah Palin, a majority of the panel members - 8 to be precise - were REPUBLICANS. I rest thus my case.

Someone told me that when Palins name was announced at a hockey game today she was booed. Now that's more like it. One thing at a Madonna concert another thing a sports event. Sounds like someone's catching on.

Palin is saying she was fully cleared of any wrongdoing. But the investigative report says: "The report states: "I find that Governor Sarah Palin Abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act ... Compliance with the code of ethics is not optional..."

Evidently, Gov. Palin does not feel ethics in government is important. An odd positin for someone who claims to be a reformer of corruption.

Palin is facing major questions about her leadership as Governor of Alaska. She should either resign that post, or return to Alaska and address those questions forthrightly.
