WASHINGTON — When Bill and Hillary Clinton take the stage Sunday at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, it will be the launch of an active campaign for their former nemesis Barack Obama in the home stretch of the 2008 presidential race.

The nation's best known and most powerful Democrats for nearly two decades, the former first couple is getting used to a new role: cheerleaders for Obama, who vanquished Hillary Clinton last spring in a Democratic primary contest for the ages.

Whatever recriminations the Clintons may still harbor from that long battle seem to have been nudged aside as they campaign in earnest for the Democratic ticket.

The New York senator and the former president will appear with Obama's running mate, Joe Biden, at a rally Sunday in Scranton, a working class town that has assumed something of an outsize role in the presidential race.

Biden was born in Scranton and lived there for several years as a child, while Hillary Clinton's father grew up in the town and is buried there. Both Biden and Clinton have emphasized their Scranton roots to illustrate their connection to blue collar voters.

After the rally, the Clintons will follow separate itineraries through presidential battleground states. They will also campaign on behalf of Democratic House and Senate candidates across the country.

Bill Clinton, who worked tirelessly for his wife during the primaries, seemed to take her loss more personally. Nonetheless, he gave Obama his full-throated endorsement at the Democratic convention in August. But he began stumping for the Illinois senator only recently, appearing at fundraisers and headlining two major events in Florida earlier this month.

After the Scranton rally, the former president was headed to Richmond and Roanoke, Virginia. He also planned events in the next few days in Ohio and Nevada, battleground states he won in 1992 and again in 1996.

Hillary Clinton was scheduled to hold a fundraiser for Obama on Sunday night in Philadelphia and planned a rally for him Monday in Montgomery County, a Philadelphia suburb rich in swing voters.

Clinton trounced Obama by 10 points in last spring's Pennsylvania primary, largely due to her strength among white working class voters. Sensing opportunity, Republican John McCain has campaigned actively in Pennsylvania but recent polls show Obama opening up a comfortable lead.

Hillary Clinton also planned return visits to Ohio and Florida in the next few days and has scheduled trips to Omaha, Neb., and Minnesota.

She traveled Friday to Arkansas, her husband's home state and where she served 12 years as first lady, in hopes of making it more competitive for the Democratic ticket. A swing through Western battleground states is in the works as well.

Clinton did radio interviews this week in North Carolina, a reliably Republican state that has become a battleground in this presidential election. She also spoke to a Hispanic station in Florida and launched a women's canvass in Wisconsin Saturday by phone.

Aides said Hillary Clinton has been remarkably stoic about taking on the role of an Obama cheerleader following the close and often bitter primary in which she raised questions about his electability and readiness to govern.

Clinton's long and often bumpy career in public life has taught her to compartmentalize her feelings, her aides said, and by nature she does not dwell on the past.

In campaign appearances, she has pressed the need for a Democratic president to take on the nation's sour economy and crippling financial crisis. Polls during the Democratic primaries found voters gave her a clear edge over Obama when asked who would be a better economic steward.

"I think it is safe to say we have not seen more troubles at one time since World War Two," Clinton told a rally in Little Rock, Ark., Friday. "Probably no president will inherit more challenges that President Obama will, since Harry Truman had to take over from Franklin Roosevelt."

Aides said Clinton has headlined more than 50 events for Obama and has raised $10 million for his campaign since suspending her own presidential effort in June.

Let's not assume it's over by any means--Obama's lead went down to 7 points on gallop's daily poll-from an 11 point lead about 4 days ago. Could it be that the Ayers ad and issue is working? It could tighten so we better be ready to fight until the end and get out every vote!

I still the republicans have something up their sleeve. THose dopes on Fox News look too happy to me.

We have to live with this 4 more years. For the rest of you, 25 more days of the Clintons in the spotlight - holding us all hostage for their "support."

Oh well...NYC dealt with the mob for two generations, then -- in the end -- and Alaskans can take a cue from us -- kaput!

Bill's $1BILLION empire cannot withstand the vetting. The gig was for HRC to win the Primary and Democrats have to choose between vetting this massive fortune (even by NYC standards, over 7 years!) across the Library, Foundation, personal and HRC Campaign -- or RISK another 4 years of Bush Inc. (which is what they know/knew McCain represents). Cindy McCain is a "contributor" FYI.

What exactly are you trying to say? What do you think would come out in an examination of their "billion dollar empire".

You're beginning to remind me of a 90s era neocon conspiracy junkie who were convinced they were "hiding something". Do you remember how relentless they accused the Clintons of everything from shady land deals to outright m'urder?!

The neocons are doing the same conspiracy B.S. to Obama too regarding his campaign contributions. I'm sorry, but unless I see some evidence along with a demonstration of INTENENT, I'm still going to hold to the tenet of "innocent until proven guilty." I would accept that someone would afford me the same respect, whether they like me or not. Why not do the same for the Clintons?

Who is Hal Turner?

* In my opinion, based on my first hand experience, I believe Sean Hannity is, in fact, a Hal Turner sort of guy. It seems to me that a big difference between Sean and me is that I am willing to say publicly what I think about savage Black criminals, diseased, uneducated illegal aliens and the grotesque cultural destruction wrought by s-a-t-a-n-i-c j-e-w-s while Sean and many others keep quiet to protect their paychecks.

* On Wednesday, March 19, Malik Zulu Shaba-z-z of the New Black Panther Party appeared as a guest on "Hannity & Colmes" to discuss the Obama / Reverend Wright controversy. During that appearance, Sean Hannity asked Shaba-z-z if Barak Obama shouldn"t be judged by his past affiliations with Reverend Wright, to which Shabazz replied by asking Sean Hannity "Should you be judged by your past association with Hal Turner, a neo-N-a-z-i?"I was quite disappointed when Sean Hannity at first tried to say he didn"t know me and then went on to say that I ran some senate campaign in New Jersey. In fact, Sean Hannity does know me and we were quite friendly a number of years ago.

* I can tell you from my firsthand, personal experience that Sean Hannity does, in fact, agree with many of my political and social views.

Bill was made to look foolish by Chris Rock and SNL. Then when the man he repeatedly praised, John McCain, used Clinton in an anti-Obama ad; he looked even more foolish.

He is fake, petty, and transparent. He was mad at Obama before Hillary's loss. Bill has never forgiven Barack for saying that Reagan and Kennedy were transformative presidents, and Clinton was not. His anger made him irrational and mean enough to hurt his wife's campaign.

What a guy.

I watched the entire speeches. The Clinton's have totally redeemed themselves in my eyes. i have no doubt they have their own agenda, but they are good democrats. Obama is not only going to win, but the republicans are going to suffer big time in the house and senate. I am beside myself in anticipation. We are taking our beloved country back. Vote!!!!!

No one was more mad a the Clintons than I during the primaries. Having said that, it's over. I got my guy. I remember the Clinton administration. They served our country well. Now they are stepping up to the plate for Obama and me. Every Hillary supporter i talk to, and there are many in California, are voting Obama. Not one person has ever said they would vote repub. She had over 18,000,000 voters. Get over being bitter. We are a much better party when we don't implode. Go Barack Obama. Go democrats.

Methinks the State of Alaska has a bit of clarity now -- and may be ....shall we say...talking to their Governor.

Citizens are no longer permitting their interests to be LEVERAGED and gamed. This is the lesson of 2008!

LMAO!!! I wish they would just stop covering these Palin events filled with people who need anger management classes. I know how it is to feel passionate about something but I would never call harm to someone. These events show you how people who don't get down from the mountain much can act when they get to the big city. Gov. Palin is no more ready to be Vice President than Tina Fey who plays to a T. I think Palin to so wrapped up in her new fame and having a bunch of Joe 6-packs undressing her with their eyes that she could care less about John McCain. She just wants to be a maverick for a few more weeks and then she can go back home and fire anyone in the Alaska government who might have talked smack about her during the Troopergate investigation. **wink**
