NEW YORK — David Letterman and Sen. John McCain will get a chance to make up.

The Republican presidential candidate is scheduled to appear on Letterman's "Late Show" on Thursday.

It will be McCain's 13th visit to the CBS program but his first since he angered Letterman by canceling last month.

Letterman was unhappy when McCain sat for an interview with Katie Couric instead of him on Sept. 24.

At the time he said he first felt like a "patriot" to let McCain off his commitment to deal with the economy but "now I'm feeling like an ugly date."

A McCain spokeswoman said at the time that because of the economic crisis, the campaign "felt this wasn't a night for comedy."

Good thing that economy thing is all past us now! McCain can "resume" his campaign and go on Letterman now that he fixed all these economic problems.

I won't be watching the Letterman show on that night, nor will I be watching Saturday Night Live on the night Palin is on. I hope others will follow the lead.

I agree. I think it's appalling that Letterman and SNL would allow themselves to be used as a media forum for these mean-spirited (and dangerous) charlatans to re-brand themselves to independent voters as harmless, good-natured, self-deprecating, good sports with a great sense of humor. We are just too close to the election to be erasing or obscuring the ugly truth about McPalin in this way.

I'll be watching Biden on Leno instead.
I can't stomach the kiss-up that will happen on Letterman.
Letterman is thinking ratings and McCain is thinking polls!

That's what I will be doing also. I am going to watch Biden on Leno. I have really liked Letterman in the "victim" posture and McCain was such a puss for canceling on him. McCain called up Letterman' s patriotism when he cancelled the show on such short notice "to save the country" and then spit in his face. How do you overlook such insult?

Thanks for the warning...just in case I was going to watch Letterman again.

Dave is a hero of mine. I know that I will be dissapointed in not seeing him rake McCain over the coals, but he is also an entertainer and is bringing people all views. He has stuck it to McCain for weeks now, and I'm sure he will still make a few stinging comments, but I know Dave is still the best, funniest, most sarcastic, witty, amazing late night personality of all time.

p.s. - Leno sucks

Letterman is looking like SUCK UP CITY here. I am so disgusted by his caving to ratings
that I won't be watching anytime soon.
I liked both Letterman and Leno, but now, at least I still respect Leno.

If Letterman's balls turn to jello, do ya think McSame can nail them to the wall?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:01 AM on 10/13/2008

The first question from Letterman should be:

"SENATOR McCAIN, WHY DID YOU THINK IT NECESSARY TO LIE TO ME"?

If not, Letterman will be buying into McSame/Palin's lies, excuses and hate!!!

For all of those who think Letterman is going to "give it to McCain" or call him out, I think you can just forget it. By his own admission, on more than one occasion Letterman admits to being impressed and intimidated by the trappings of political power. McCain and Letterman are friends. McCain is a senior sitting U.S. Senator and Presidential candidate. McCain is not going to risk, at this point, being embarrassed or poked fun at by Letterman. He's there to put an end to the barbs and snide remarks of the past few weeks. Letterman will bolster his enormous ego by getting an apology from McCain and McCain will get a heartfelt acceptance from Letterman. It'll be good for McCain's image and great for Letterman's ego. Both men have little to offer in the way of courage or honor, but much in the way of ego..

Wow. McCain gets a change of heart. I'm sure it has nothing to do with his poll numbers tanking so badly. Is Letterman trying to get this dangerous brat elected? By allowing him on the show this close to the election, Dave appears to be legitimatizing McCain's campaign. It would have been better if he had scheduled McCain as a guest after November 4.

McCain needs the publicity; his funds are running low, very low, so he needs the "air time". So McCain is going to be on Letterman the night after the last debate??? I hope McCain gets "knocked out" in the debate. I really hope he does even worse that he has already done. McCain has been rude, surly, offensive; now he will probaly try to be so nice. No one is going to buy that, and if he keeps trying to tell old, tired, stale jokes, and insult Senator Obama, I am sure people will see him for what he really is.
