NEW YORK — David Letterman and Sen. John McCain will get a chance to make up.

The Republican presidential candidate is scheduled to appear on Letterman's "Late Show" on Thursday.

It will be McCain's 13th visit to the CBS program but his first since he angered Letterman by canceling last month.

Letterman was unhappy when McCain sat for an interview with Katie Couric instead of him on Sept. 24.

At the time he said he first felt like a "patriot" to let McCain off his commitment to deal with the economy but "now I'm feeling like an ugly date."

A McCain spokeswoman said at the time that because of the economic crisis, the campaign "felt this wasn't a night for comedy."

Won't be watching your Stupid Pet Tricks night, David. I prefer Senator McCain in his absence but hey - knock yourself out.

This could be choice pay back - invite him by all means, but leave him in the Green Room for the entire show's taping. Cut over occassionally to hidden camera showing him fuming. That would be priceless!!

What, is Daves show on too late for McCain to stay up and watch how he's been mocked over the last few weeks?
Or has he lost his pride along with his soul.

The McCain/Palin ticket is the first in American history in which both candidates were found to have violated ethics standards before a national election.
--from Washington Monthly

McCain-Palin are LIARS, HYPOCRITES and FRAUDS.

Oh great. A feel good session between Dave and McCain. Thanks Dave. All that wonderful funny but accurate stuff you said about McCain before will be swept away in a current of let bygones be bygones.
BARF.

Yeah. Projectile vomit even.

I really going to watch that program - to see our little air hero on his knees begging for a reach around.

I imagine the show will be without substance. McCain's handlers will prepare him. Only if he can be driven to lose his temper will there likely be value.

I like Dave. We share the same hometown. However, his show is basically a lot of fluff. One area that Dave might surprise him on would be to bring up the Keating-5 S&L scandal of 1989. If McCain had any honor, he would have resigned from the senate in 1991 after the Senate Ethics Committee let him (and John Glenn) off easy with a reprimand of using "poor judgment."

As Time Magazine published on March 11, 1991:
"The committee found Senators John Glenn of Ohio ($234,000 in Keating contributions) and John McCain of Arizona ($112,000) the least culpable, engaging only in "poor judgment" because they gave Keating less help than did the others. Senators Donald Riegle of Michigan ($76,000) and Dennis DeConcini of Arizona ($55,000 along with more than $50 million in real estate loans from Lincoln Savings to top campaign aides) gave the "appearance of being improper" because their intervention for Keating was more extensive." I imagine McCain got off easy because of his military/pow status; John Glenn because of having been an astronaut.

Obama is the only hope for the U.S. in this election. Two great things going for him to start with are: 1) he's not taking PAC funds; and 2) he's been against the Iraq war from the start.

No Letterman for me either that night. Wouldn't waste the batteries in the remote on that desperate hypocritical hatemonger of a presidential candidate. Wrong turn, Dave.

Is McCain bringing Palin along as he had suggested he might when he cancelled?

As Olberman filled in for McCain, possibly Dave will have an emergent issue, Keith could step in. and tactically grill McCain. Maybe Dave could have his make-up refreshened with Katie.

If Letterman were to do something like that, I would literally fall out of my chair. McCain wouldn't even take the stage, he'd be too afraid to go out there.

Still, even if Letterman shows... I can't see him giving McCain a free pass. I see John taking some very tough questions from Letterman that night and maybe even be put on the spot for ditching him last time. I'm definitely going to set my DVR up to record that episode!

Now that would be something to see.

But did they have to lie?

The McCain spokesperson didn't think it was a night for comedy? I love to laugh during hard times. If that was the case, then the only people that would see him on television were the ones that wanted to laugh.

I hope Dave pisses McCain off so that that he punches out Letterman. Hell that is a win-win for everyone. Just kidding Dave. We love you as much as Drew Barrymore loves you. Good luck with this one.

Praying that Letterman insults him so bad that he loses his temper

This will be so weird. The crowd will NOT applaud when he comes on. There will certainly be some audible boos. He won't be able to ingratiate himself with Dave's demographic, not after the timbre of his campaign and his rabid running mate. I guess it's just a desperate move to get Dave to shut up about him.
Into the mosh pit!
