NEW YORK — David Letterman and Sen. John McCain will get a chance to make up.

The Republican presidential candidate is scheduled to appear on Letterman's "Late Show" on Thursday.

It will be McCain's 13th visit to the CBS program but his first since he angered Letterman by canceling last month.

Letterman was unhappy when McCain sat for an interview with Katie Couric instead of him on Sept. 24.

At the time he said he first felt like a "patriot" to let McCain off his commitment to deal with the economy but "now I'm feeling like an ugly date."

A McCain spokeswoman said at the time that because of the economic crisis, the campaign "felt this wasn't a night for comedy."

It would be nice if the nation, the people of integrity would boycott the show because they are having McCain on.

He doesn't deserve an audience, even if Dave would ask him about the people screaming hate at his rallies I am guessing the will play the POW card.

Why would Dave want this two faced b***tard back on his show? I find it hard to believe it will boost the ratings. Letterman might needle him a bit, but I'm sure it won't be anything substantial.

I say again, YOU WANT TO WATCH THIS!!!

Dave will tear him up!

I think you're wrong. I don't plan to watch at all. McCain wouldn't go on Letterman if there was any danger to his campaign or risk of embarrassment to him personally. McCain will fake an apology that really isn't an apology and Letterman will give him a pass, "for old times sake." I think this will be a big sell out for Letterman, otherwise McCain wouldn't come on. But, we'll see. I could be wrong and Letterman might nail him. But I doubt it.

Joe will not utter a word on Leno's show that is not totally predictable. Why not watch something instead that is unpredictable?

Maybe Dave will have the stones to ask McCain some tough questions. I think all of his audience wants to hear some real answers.

In any case I will be watching Sen. Biden on NBC. Something I would not normally do.

I will not be watching, Dave.

Send a message...Don't watch Dave when McCain's on. You can see the replays, here, afterwards. Make his ratings go down when McCain is on.

Don't let McCain go on a comedy show and try and rehabilitate himself with Dave's audience.

How utterly unAmerican of you. I'll watch whatever I please, thank you.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:54 PM on 10/12/2008

whats unamerican about a boycott? of course you will watch what you please. the previous poster also will encourage others to not watch.

I won't watch. I'll wait to hear what happens and watch later if I want to. What David Letterman asks McCain will determine whether I ever watch his show again.

The MSM has bailed on America. All we have left is the comedians.

Don't let us down Dave!

Ooops. I'm tired. That should read, 'all we have left ARE the comedians'.

"A McCain spokeswoman said at the time that because of the economic crisis, the campaign 'felt this wasn't a night for comedy.'"

So the economic crisis has passed, and it's now a time for comedy. Can we say out of touch.

I think on Thursday, he will be a no-show after, once again, looking inept at a debate with the intelligent Barack Obama, while McCain tries to control his vehement temper, and lack of depth. In other words, what a joke!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:08 PM on 10/12/2008

probably a good call. letterman will have lots of material to fill the void.

Maybe Dave will cancel the show and not show up, but either way I will not watch, everyone should spread the word and boycott the show that night, make it the lowest rated show in history and make Leno the higest, Biden will be on Leno that night!!

I hope that Dave has the chutzpah to ask him to his face about his negative campaning and then we can watch him squirm....

I'm sure Lettermann has plenty of chutzpah (meaning "shameless audacity") but the word you're searching for is moxy.

If McCain thinks Letterman will go easy on him, he's about to get the shock of his life. He has been going at him for weeks and I don't think he'll let up if he's there in person.

I wouldn't call it "going at him" as much as constant night-after-night whining. I never realized before just how outsized Letterman's ego has grown over the years. By now it's probably ay least half the size of Olbermann's. If Letterman is right about appearing on his show being so important to American elections, the country is in tougher shape than I thought.

That would make his ego about 1/100 the size of Bush's and 1/1000 the size of Palins.
