NEW YORK — David Letterman and Sen. John McCain will get a chance to make up.

The Republican presidential candidate is scheduled to appear on Letterman's "Late Show" on Thursday.

It will be McCain's 13th visit to the CBS program but his first since he angered Letterman by canceling last month.

Letterman was unhappy when McCain sat for an interview with Katie Couric instead of him on Sept. 24.

At the time he said he first felt like a "patriot" to let McCain off his commitment to deal with the economy but "now I'm feeling like an ugly date."

A McCain spokeswoman said at the time that because of the economic crisis, the campaign "felt this wasn't a night for comedy."

This is a disappointment as well. Another case of rewarding unacceptable behavior.

This is too good to pass up. McCain walks into the room and ..... wait for it, wait for it .... Letterman is not there! He took the day off. Then Tina Fey walks in (dressed as Sarah Palin, of course), sits in Letterman's chair, and conducts the interview.

And then a clown runs in and hits him with a cream pie. That'll really fix him. Or viewers could just watch and listen to the interview without dancing around the room blowing soda out of their noses. What do people have against simple exchanges of opinion?

I will make a point of watching the rerun of THE RACHEL MADDOW SHOW that night.

Sorry Dave, I can't support you on this.

"felt this wasn't a night for comedy."

BS...complete and utter BS...but hey..what else is new?
I have watched Letterman for many..many..many years. He is more then capable of a serious interview.
I have seen him do many..many serious, upfront investigative, informative interviews. He's very good at it too...There were times when I walk away having the feeling that he did a better job then all the serious journalists out there.
Oh, I remember the time he tore O'Riely an new one...ahhhhh...memories

I'll be very disappointed in Letterman if he ends up kissing McCain's butt on Thursday. Letterman showed some real chutzpah in going after McCain. To see that result in "I respect the Senator... what a hero... blah blah" will make me want to puke.

What the F-***is "chutzpah" and is it English?

If you are in any but the 8 swing states, your electoral college vote has already been assigned to either of the two parties. Your voice won't be heard unless you vote 3rd party.

Yeah, that was really productive in Florida with Nader, eh?
Grow up. The only voice people would hear is the one saying "I'm throwing away my vote."

Has Dave asked his audience lately who they would vote for?
Will he do that tonight... with McCain sitting right there?

Sign this petition if you think McCain should stop talking about Obama and William Ayers...and start talking about the economy instead:

YOU WILL WANT TO WATCH LETTERMAN ON THURSDAY!!!

David holds a grudge, he will rip McCain to shreds. He will act nice and get McCain off guard and then stick the knife in! Dave is much smarter than McCain and is well versed on the issues and scandals, I would not be surprised to hear Keating 5 brought up. This will be great entertainment for Obama supporters.

"THERE WILL BE BLOOD"

You will be kicking yourself if you miss this!!!!

His campaign spokesman has a point. When his fearless leader declined to be on Letterman a couple of weeks ago it truly was NOT a time for comedy. However, now that the economy has irreversibly augered in (along with McCain's election chances) I am pleased to see The Mav recognizes the time has come for everybody to get the joke his campaign represents! Not sure what top ten list Dave and his team are conjuring up for that evening but I would suggest the ten stupidest things ever uttered by a candidate for president. Don't know where The Mav's "fundamentals of the economy are sound" utterance would come in but it should make the top 5.
