I Like ItI Don’t Like It

THIS cute chimp isn't just a primate - she is this baby tiger's BEST mate.

Loving Anjana cradles the white tiger cub after acting as surrogate mother to him and his twin brother.

And the two-year-old chimpanzee clearly isn't monkeying around, she has also raised LEOPARDS and LIONS.

With all the bad things going on in this world, those photos truly warm my heart.

You are so right--I've seen other photos of different animal species looking after each other, but these pictures are truly wonderful. They remind me of the African tortoise that ended up befriending a baby hippopotamus after the hippo lost its mother in the wake of the 2004 tsunami. By the way, I saw an article last week about Chita, the chimp that was Johnny Weissmuller's co-star in the Tarzan movies. Amazing--74 years old and still going strong!

I see huffpost corrected the headline title, substituting chimp for monkey. Appreciate the correction. Because if we call chimps "monkeys, then humans are "monkeys" as well.

Come on people, don't be so sensitive... just smile, because that is adorable.

You still want it to be right, though.

That's too cute!

Heh, I usually don't remember chimps are apes... I guess you can chalk it up to a bad education if you want. But I think most people can see the resemblance. It's like calling american bison "buffalo"... it's not some huge failure of our educational system to refer to one species of animal as another similar looking species. (God, I hope I'm using the word "species" correctly, I can't bear the ridicule that's sure to come if I'm not!)

it's ok to call a bison a buffalo (same thing, dictionary definition of a bison is an american buffalo) It is not ok to call a chimp a monkey. Chimpanzees are primates, so are people.
But it's a common mistake and people are getting too worked up about it when they could just smile and look at these adorable photos.

Ummm, pay attention people. The original article was published in the Sun:

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article1793356.ece

That's a publication in the U.K., not an American publication. Our British friends can begin apologizing whenever they like. . .

Ummm, pay attention person. The headline here is different than the headline in the Sun. I love the tag list for this article: Animals, Monkey Tiger Friends, Monkey Tiger Photos, White Tiger Monkey Friends, White Tiger Monkey Photos, Home News

Insult to injury.

I can see several people have already spoken up but I'm here to add my voice.

Apes are NOT monkeys. Monkeys are NOT apes. The creature shown with the tiger is a chimpanzee, an ape.

I expect more from HuffPo than dumbing down like this. Don't people learn even rudimentary science anymore?

Moreover, as sweet as the photos are, tigers are carnivores. That chimpanzee is going to become a delicious meal unless its trainers remove the cub from such an environment.

Monkey, White Tiger? Didn't you mean to say Monkey, White Kitty?

It's called a "chimpanzee".

A classic doomed relationship. Fun while it lasts. Reminds me of something Sam Clemons said, to the effect of: the lion can lie down with the lamb, but you need a lot of lambs. On second thought, maybe it was Ambrose Bierce who said it.

The only thing Clemons said was "Twain".

I waited for comments to be re-enabled onlyto find Geoffi beat me to it. A Chimp is an Ape, not a Monkey. Too many Americans mislable them as Monkeys just as they misname most fruits as vegitables. It suggests a great acceptance for common ignorance.

And as is indicated by the terminology, the acceptance of said ignorance is most commonly unwitting.

"It suggests a great acceptance for (sic) common ignorance."

Like spelling "vegetable" incorrectly?
