I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Mccain

RedState co-founder Joshua Trevino writes on his blog that he can't bring himself to vote for the Republican ticket:

In the end, I couldn't do it. My California ballot arrived in the mail today, and I opened it fully intending to vote for John McCain. I filled out the state propositions first -- yes on 8, no on everything proposing a new bond or new spending -- then the local offices, straight Republican excepting Kevin Johnson for (nonpartisan) Sacramento mayor. Finally, the vote for President of the United States: an academic exercise in California, where Barack Obama will surely win by a crushing margin. But good citizenship demands voting as if it matters. Do I believe in John McCain? Not as much as I used to. Do I believe in Sarah Palin? Despite my early enthusiasm for her, now not at all. Do I believe in the national Republican Party? Not in the slightest -- even though I see no meaningful alternative to it. So, my choice for President in 2008, scrawled in my ballot as an act of futile protest, is Governor Bobby Jindal of Louisiana. If nothing else, I am confident this is the first of several votes I will cast for him in years to come.

I'm not sure if this guy has heard (he is ALL THE WAY UP in NORTHERN Cali), but Bobby Jindal has become VERY unpopular in Louisiana.

Jindal is almost as big a wackjob as Palin? How can someone who's seen through the Palin koolaid turn to Jindal as the last great hope for Republicans?? I seriously don't get it.

I think Trevino should have kept that to himself.

Yes on 8? That's a shameful vote baning same sex marriage. If McCain can't get that kind of person to vote for him, he's in deep do do.

Anyone who would brag about voting Yes on Prop 8 needs to read the constitution. Clearly he doesn't understand it.

I voted the other day by mail for "That One" here in CA...keeping this blue state even bluer. My mother also did the same ...got her to stop listening to Rush & Insanity and tune into Big Ed Schultz, Keith and Rachel. I had no qualms about who to vote for as soon as I opened my ballot. No vote is a wasted vote!

I don't live in CA but how is Prop 8 worded? I think every time they word these things as marriage they do those that want it a disservice. Many have religious reasons for not wanting it called marriaged, be that right or wrong. If they want to get more people they should word it civil union, then they would have more of a chance of getting people that have a problem soley with the use of the word marriage. I could be wrong, I haven't really followed this much, but just a thought. If at the end of the day you have all of the same rights, I would think it wouldn't matter what they called it as long as you got the same rights.

This guy should Google Republican Offenders which lists Republicans who have been charged, some jailed for pedophilia, one of the most heinous crimes and adultery among other crimes. He should be more concerned with what his Republican associates do, rather than spying into peoples' bedroom window. As the late, former Prime Minister of Canada, Pierre Elliot Trudeau stated, "the state has no business in the nations' bedroom". These creeps are so hypocritical, it's sickening.
Good news for Democrats, he didn't vote for McFake and Slime.

I think the full text is online but it's pdf

I just want to say, if we start amending the state's constitution to fit some people's morals, we are gonna slide down a slope faster than you can blink...

here ya go

If passed, the amendment would override the ruling in In re Marriage Cases that struck down both the 1977 law and Proposition 22 for being unconstitutional.[18] The Constitution, as amended, would add a new section (Section 7.5) to Article I, placing it between the state Equal Protection clause and nondiscrimination in business and the professions. This new section would read:

Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.[14][19][20]

I've hear that one before. Please quit getting cocky. It's foolish to believe the polls and all you're doing is encouraging people to relax. You're not wanting people to relax, are you? Hmmm?

Barack Obama (for some kind of future (as opposed to NONE).

DON'T RELAX until November 5!

Why would he vote yes on 8?

Jersey offers a civil union/partnership deal but I'm hoping they'll offer the full deal soon because everyone deserves the right to get married. If we have separation of Church and State then there is NO valid reason for them to not be able to marry. I look forward to attending one of my closest friend's wedding as his Best Man who get to make a heartwarming speech about he and his husband.

Seriously what happened to all that stuff about not judging people?

I guess it is symbolically good for Obama that you could not vote for McCain
But the fact that you would deny me & thousands like me, the basic right to marry whom I choose
just makes me sad!
You seriously think that I am some sort of threat to the sanctity of marriage?
That if my partner of 14 years & I buy a house & settle down & have some sort of religious ceremony to acknowledge our commitment with the Blessing of the state of California & are afforded all the legal rights of such a partnership; I am somehow a threat to you & your family! ?? Really???

What would you expect from a Republican? Social consciousness? Common sense?

Please...

Why would he vote YES on Prop 8? I lived in So. Cal for 23 years and I never once lost sleep because of what others do in their bedrooms. There was never any money taken from my bank accounts because of a homosexual. My daughter was never threatened by a homosexual. As a matter of fact, when I needed help, it was mostly my dear homosexuals friends who came to the rescue. I find it so hard to understand why Rethugs think that have the responsibility to tell ME what is right for ME. I thought in the bible it says something about NOT judging others. Who made the Rethugs the Moral Police? What is so wrong with people wanting to be happy and married? These people make me SICK!

well said polijunkie. People are always most critical in others, the flaws they see in themselves. Those most uncertain about their own sexuality tend to be those most concerned about others. As for the rest there is an authoritarian gene that is more prominent in some people than others and they believe that they can only control their environment by controlling you. They need sympathy, help and understanding. Especially their understanding what is wrong with them. I find that always helps.

SEDANMIK,

Wow! Thanks for the link. This is a very powerful endorsement. I recommend that you include more of the article so that it gets more attention.
A 106-year-old American nun living in a convent in Rome could well be the oldest person to vote in the 2008 US Presidential election.
Sister Cecilia Gaudette, who last voted for President Eisenhower in 1952, has registered to vote and says she will vote for Democrat Barack Obama.
