Hundreds of mourners turned out today at St. Sabina Church on the South Side for funeral services for 17-year-old Kiyanna Salter, who was shot to death on a CTA bus more than a week ago," the Tribune reports.
The two-hour funeral service was punctuated with tears, laughter and repeated calls for the community to work hand in hand to remove guns and violence from the city's streets.
Family and friends talked about the teen's loves, from fashion and her friends to her childhood loves of Strawberry Shortcake and Hello Kitty.

Salter's mother, Kenya Jackson, said she pushed her daughter to stay in school and be a good person because she didn't want her to become another young victim of gun violence. She urged every parent to show more love to their children and said Salter would not want mourners to cry for her.
"Take care of them kids. Take care of them kids," she said.
