PHILADELPHIA — Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton offered a Democratic rejoinder to the Republican chant of "drill, baby, drill." Said the one-time presidential candidate: "Jobs, baby, jobs."

Campaigning for her once bitter rival Barack Obama in Pennsylvania, the New York senator told about 1,500 people at an historic farm in suburban Horsham, that her husband's administration produced a balanced budget and a surplus.

"Now, eight short years later, we've had to add a digit to the debt clock," she said, referring to the digital sign in New York City that tracks the national debt.

Clinton is trying to use her popularity in places like northeast Philadelphia and the city's suburbs to help Obama beat Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain in this battleground state. She did well in both areas in Pennsylvania's Democratic primary six months ago, when she beat the Illinois senator by 10 percentage points.

At the Republican National Convention and various GOP rallies, an oft-repeated chant was "drill, baby, drill," a plea for more oil drilling. McCain and GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin back more offshore oil drilling; Palin favors drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Clinton said Democrats have a better answer: "Jobs, baby, jobs."

Earlier in the day, she told about 400 people at a Philadelphia Jewish community center that voters concerned about the country's economy should support Obama because President Bush's policies are not helping average households.

"The middle class is invisible to this president," Clinton said. "He doesn't see how hard it is to make ends meet."

Clinton's visit to the Jewish community center in the far northeastern corner of Philadelphia was the first of two area stops on Monday.

Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, campaigned with Obama running mate Joe Biden on Sunday in Scranton, another area where Clinton did well in the primary.

Earlier Monday, Clinton said Obama is closing in on an Election Day win.

Clinton said in an interview taped for "Today" from Scranton that she thinks Obama has substantially improved his chances by the way he has handled questions about the country's severe credit crisis. "I think he's closing it," she said.

McCain-Palin said: drill baby drill and the lioness of senate said jobs baby jobs.

Please share this video to 20 people until election day to remind everyone not to be fooled again.

Anyone notice how Hillary Clinton seems more willing to campaign for Barack Obama lately. It might just be me, but she seems more enthusiastic.

I wonder if it's because she doesn't have to actually win the election and deal with the ever-worsening mess from the last 8 years. I thought it was going to be bad enough for a Democratic President to have to clean up the Iraq war, but that was only the tip of the iceberg. I wonder if she's thinking, I just dodged a bullet.

ummm-
She has be4een campaigning for him, and enthusiastically right from the beginning.
She raised 8 million dollars for him at last count and I think that was a couple of weeks ago could have3 been closer than that- time seems to all run together these days.
;-)

Don't forget right after the primary she went out after a very short rest and she was exhausted. I wish people had more of a sense of history, political history to see how unprecedented what she has done is- not the running but the work she has done for Obama /the opponent.
I also really wish people would get off the HHate bandwagon and do some research instead of repeating the stupid meme's that keep going around.
(not talking about you here- just read down the comments. so ridiculous.

Anyway, if she hadn't been out right away how do you explain 8 million dollars?
Who else has raised that much?
What other Pres runner up has ever done as much as she has.
Seriously, go back and check at all she has been doing- if you don't SEE her on the campaign tral it isn't because she isn't out there its because it doesn't get much coverage.

Hillary said "I think he's closing it."

It would have been much better if she had said "I KNOW he's closing it".

But I do have to say as well that Hillary did a good job on Sunday on the campaign trail.

Oh Lord- the parsing continues- it is never enough.
Give it a rest, please.
Seriously.

Remember when she said that Obama wouldn't be able to get the blue-collar folks? I wonder if it's been because of the Clintons' support, his choice of Biden, or his own campaigning..

I am glad they all united at the DNC; I would have loved an Obama/Clinton ticket, but after the VP debate, I'm loving the Obama/Biden ticket more than I thought I would!

Yay Obama! GOBAMA!

She should be proud. She trained him . He is a stronger candidate today because of her. She will be a stronger politician with him in power .
The blogger who said Obama needs to do the rallies with them --the last week of the campaign was exactly right. See if they can sneak Chuck Hagel on stage in Nebraska, Colin Powell , & Waxman from Florida. He is a terrific surrogate . So is Claire .
Finish the campaign strong.

This was clearly and GLOBALLY refuted and proven YEARS ago. GooGle is your friend. If Obama kept taking time out to RE refute rumors that were put down 2 years ago he would have no time to run for office.

I'd like to say to John McCain - You were born in Panama, right? Why doesn't that disqualify you for running for president?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:46 AM on 10/13/2008

Exactly, Obama was born in the United States. McCain was not.

I am not so enthusiastic about the Clintons. From what I have seen they BOTH have done AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE to help Obama. JUST enough to keep from being see as totally sabotageing him in order to keep from totally tanking their careers.

Bill has been the WORST but Hillary has for Obama than John Stewart.

Still self promoting and self centered.

Stop this spreading of lies.

Hillary Clinton has done over 50 events for Obama. Over 50. that's more than all the other primary candidates COMBINED. That's more than anyone but Biden.

So stop the horsesh*t.

You mean more than any past losing primary candidate, right?

You know, I bet she has done around the same number events as Sarah Palin, except for Obama...

Timing is everything. If they had been out all along it would not have the impact it will here in the closing weeks. They are doing what they are being asked to do and i think doing it with heart .

What people fail to see as the regurgitate Clinton talking points about doing more than anyone else for the nominee, is how they really feel about Americans. I do think she said that Obama can't win, and that is the worst kind of cynicism about her fellow Americans. Is she saying the nation is too bigoted to judge a candidate by the content of his character?

Jump on the bandwagon at 10% ahead, but we are all in this together because moving ahead requires healing of divisions and total defeat of reactionary forces.
