McCain "Hitting The Panic Button"

The Politico reports:

Three weeks before Election Day, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on Monday is unveiling what his aides call a more forceful new stump speech in which he portrays himself as a scrappy fighter on the comeback trail against an opponent who's already "measuring the drapes" in the Oval Office.

"The national media has written us off.," McCain says in excerpts released by the campaign. "Senator Obama is measuring the drapes, and planning with Speaker Pelosi and Senator Reid to raise taxes, increase spending, take away your right to vote by secret ballot in labor elections, and concede defeat in Iraq. But they forgot to let you decide. My friends, we've got them just where we want them."

Allies are calling this "hitting the 'reset' button" on the campaign, with McCain reemerging after a long Sunday strategy session with a feisty tack that uses candor and humor, at a time when his rallies have become known for raucous rage and clumsy attacks.

But it's more like hitting the panic button. McCain is appearing Monday in Virginia and North Carolina - two states that are usually safe for Republicans in presidential races, and that he should have put away long ago. But Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) is pouring visits and staff into the former Confederacy, and he has caught McCain in many Southern polls.

McCain had planned to unveil a new economic policy this week, but the plan fell apart amid internal campaign confusion. Insiders won't talk about what happened. "We're locked down," one official told the Politico. "I have no comment on anything, to anybody," policy adviser Douglas Holtz-Eakin said to the New York Times.

According to these guys, we are watching the effective collaspe of the GOP

These men are acting like children, and there are no adults to be seen anywhere.

Pete Cenedella said all that is left is an angry mob.

Sounds like he plans on hitting it again tomorrow and may introduce the economic plan they said they would today, but then hit that button and didn't. At this point what he will or won't do is ANYBODY'S guess! Clearly what he does and what he and his campaign say he will do have nothing to do with each other...

Give McCain a step stool so he can reach the panic button better.

Panic button fine.

Just keep his hands away from "that button" in the Oval Office.

They need to put an alarm on it or something telling JM to step away when he gets too close.

I hope that the national review, fox news, the drudge report and dan balz regret calling fellow conservatives "eccentric" or the like. They deserve to eat crow.

The likes of the national review, faux news, the drudge report and dan balz calling any republican not willing to swallow the koolaid "eccentric" or anything else is just slimy. I hope the landslide makes them shut up.

Hello to all commentators,

All the commercials, pundits, gaffes, personal attacks, and the MSM will not dictate the outcome of this election. THE GROUND GAME IS WHERE ELECTIONS ARE WON, AND LOST!

Before you go to the next left leaning article to comment on, or right leaning article to start an argument with a repug (which will no doubt end with them calling you an unpatriotic socialist wimp) I suggest that you get in the game.

Take a look. It is a lot of fun, and very satisfying to get involved. You will really feel as though you are making a difference.

Thanks Craig

Um, johny boy, can I call you johny? Obama does not measure drapes. Obama does not take naps. Obama works hard for the people and is busy getting his message across. His wife is working hard on the campaign.
Maybe you've mistaken the democrats for your pill popping better? half who has nothing better to do....

Nothing better to do then stand on stage behind him and Failin like a Bobblehead.....I don't ever remember seeing a nominees wife at EVERY campaign stop taking center stage...and I've been voting for 43 years I find it strange

Cindy McCain's onstage, fixed smile, omni-presence is strange indeed. Maybe doesn't want to leave JM alone with Sarah regardless of location. Perhaps there in case the untold medical condition flares and she can whip out the tranquilizer dart. Perhaps she's she's got issues and needs to be near JM at all times. Regardless, seeing her in each and every reported event is weird. But, truth be known, the woman can dress! And her $500K AMEX card expenses are the stuff of internet lore!

McCain and Palin both....their spouses can't get off the stage....what is more worrisome is Todd Palin set up his working station in Governor Palins office and became actively involved....as determined by the Troopergate report....these two need to head back to Alaska.....where they can only hurt 675,000 people...with their vendettas and stupidity

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

Someone needs to tell John McCain that, when George W Bush ruined the banks on Wall St, he lost the War in Iraq.

McCain is still pushing the "Obama = defeat in Iraq," while never bothering to define victory in Iraq. Maybe all this will change with Oliver Stone's "W." film release later this month.

You're lucky because you should be locked up like any other people who break the law!

I find it amusing that McCain calls Bill Ayers old & washed up (not that I am a fan of either). Wonder if McCain has checked in a mirror lately!

I hope he's not counting on the military launching a fake nuclear attack on South Carolina in the next week or two...
