I Like ItI Don’t Like It

The progressive group Health Care for America Now is up with a new spot whacking John McCain for proposing a health care policy that voters can't even believe is real. The ad takes responses from the group's previous focus group testing - during which voters were read various McCain proposals - and turns them on the Senator.

"John McCain's health care plan is so outrageous that when we previewed our new ads about it, people couldn't even believe what they saw," the narrator says.

It's a clever move in an political ad cycle that has seen its fair share of noteworthy takes. The spot is debuting on the web and is designed to raise funds for a separate campaign the group has launched in Ohio. The broader theme is one that both Health Care for America Now and (independently) the Obama camp has been hitting for weeks: voters shouldn't trust McCain with their health care, especially in these perilous economic times.

"The comments in the web ad are culled directly from our testing," said Jacki Schechner, a spokesperson for the group. "People didn't think McCain's plan could really be that detrimental. We think people should read more about it for themselves."

Keep spreading the word.

In particular , MAKE SURE EVERY SENIOR (which seems to be the last most resistant group to Sen Obama) KNOWS the FACTS ABOUT McCAIN'S HEALTHCARE PLAN.

McCain's plan will hit seniors just like all the rest of us, but they may be less likely to be aware depending on from where they get their news.

There have already been several articles debunking the McCain health plan, but there's a new one in the LA Times by Ron Brownstein that's pretty good reading.

I kept my husbands health ins. after he died, I paid into it with his pension money. This went on for about 6 years, then the company said I'd have to start paying more money. Last year I paid $550 a month for the insurance. I couldn't afford it any more, so I had to drop it. With the economic crisis, companies are laying off workers, and cutting costs wherever they can. He also wants to tax you for getting ins. so if you make 50k and your company pays 12k on benefits, your taxable income will be 62k. No matter how you cut it, the taxpayer will not come out a winner. I foresee those companies doing away with their group plans, and leaving us all without insurance. With pre-existing medical conditions, you're really up a creek without a paddle, since other ins. companies won't take you. Singles will get less money than the 5k for families under the McCain plan. If we are bailing out Wall Street, big banks and millionaire CEO's, we deserve better treatment than McCains bogus plan.

It seems McBush does not do his homework. He comes up with these stunts and calls them policy and then reverses himself the next week.

Any type of one-time cash dumps, like the "Stimulas Checks" and McCain's heatlh care tax credit do NOTHING except hand the money to big business. One time checks don't stimulate the economy. Only when the people have extra money ON A REGULAR BASIS are more jobs created!

I'm glad to see the McCain plan being fairly criticized for the wholesale fleecing of America that it is!! More air time is needed to vet his disastrous "plan" and inform the unsuspecting public!!

Thank you for your efforts~

Agreed. This one issue alone could have the power to drive an Obama victory.

I also would like to see a lot more on this issue. McCain's egregious plan needs real exposure.

The two aspects that need intense exposure are the taxing existing plans, and the cuts he plans to make to Medicare. Word on both these needs to get out.

But I think a single - slightly longer - video on Youtube would have a great chance of going viral and having an impact. It doesn't matter who does it - it could be Obama or this same group or another independent group - but it should be done. If they get it on television - that would be wonderful too.

McCain's health care plan never seemed well thought out. It was basically just a set of talking points. Not surprisingly, no one seems to believe in it.

Please don't. Whether we like him or not, Putin happens to be a very intelligent man, extremely well read and versed in world affairs.

Sarah Palin is a dolt on the IQ level of Britney, not Putin.

They should do some reenactments.

Someone getting their check stub and seeing their health insurance benefits taxed.

Someone being told by their employer that their health insurance is being discontinued now that McCain is in office.

Someone trying to buy health insurance for their entire family on the premise that their $5000 tax credit will somehow pay for it.

Someone trying to buy health insurance with preexisting conditions.

Someone buying into the minimal health insurance they could barely afford and being told by the doctor or hospital how little it will really cover. And further being told that likely they will now be cancelled since they are a higher insurance risk.

McCain and the GOP forgot the phrase, "a healthy nation is a wealthy nation".

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:51 PM on 10/13/2008

Not if the GOP have anything to say about it.
Health care should be only for those they think deserve it.
