One day after John McCain passed up an attempt to criticize a comparison between Barack Obama and Osama Bin Laden, he has been presented with another opportunity.

After his speech in Virginia Beach Monday morning, one of the candidate's supporters was shown on MSNBC brandishing a sign that read: "Obama Bin Lyin'," a clear reference to the al-Qaeda leader.

McCain received some credit last Friday for addressing the palpable xenophobia at his various town halls. "No ma'am," he told a woman who falsely asserted that Barack Obama is an Arab. He answered another supporter who said she was afraid of an Obama presidency by telling her she had nothing to fear.

But the question now appears whether McCain can put the genie of the Democratic nominee's "otherness" back into the bottle, after having issued a week of "who is Barack Obama"-themed attacks. Even after a speech that made no mention of ACORN, Bill Ayers, or purportedly radical politics of any stripe, it was clear that McCain's crowds are not dissuaded from reveling in character assassination.

On Sunday, McCain refused an opportunity to criticize the state chair of the Virginia GOP, who compared Obama to Bin Laden, since "both ... have friends that have bombed the Pentagon," a reference to Ayers. Asked whether that was appropriate, McCain only said: "I have to look at the context of his remarks. I have always repudiated any comments that have been made that were inappropriate about Senator Obama." (Meanwhile, a spokesperson from the campaign made the decision to call the remarks "not appropriate.")

If this keeps up, however, McCain may have to weigh in with his own thoughts on the matter.

After 9/11 when all flights to and from the country were grounded ... one flight was allowed to leave, on that flight were members of Bin Laden's family. Michael Moore discussed this in Farenheit 9/11. The Bush admin. have never explained to the country why they were not held for questioning ... we've never demanded an explanation. We know part of the answer .. OIL PROFITS! The Bush family and Saudi royalty (to which Bin Laden belongs) have been oil buddies for decades! NOW WHO"S BIN LYIN !! OBAMA/BIDEN '08 VOTE TO TAKE BACK OUR DEMOCRACY

I know this has been said, but the rallies I have been to did not allow anyone to bring signs. The campaign people would pass out signs that appeared to be homemade. There is not a doubt in my mind that this was not made by McCain campaign. They are incapable of even faking being nice!! They say they don't condone comparisons to Osama, and then they pull this crab. Sorry, I don't think it is funny at all.

Wierd - Obama has not lied about one thing, it's been McCain and Palin that have been caught in their own lies and flipflopping.

What exactly has Obama been accused of lying about?

I think the sign is kinda clever and I'm a die hard Obama Girl. 3 Weeks Left. I can hardly contain myself!

This is only going to piss of independents and moderates. Nobody in their right mind is going to any McCain/Palin rallies if this is the madness that goes on. When only your base is excited you're in trouble.

It's been frequently reported that people aren't allowed to bring their own signs into the rallies, but are supplied with homemade-appearing signs after entry. I wonder what the case is here. Did the local McCain campaign provide that sign?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:14 PM on 10/13/2008

Good question.

When Obama came to Indianapolis last week, we were told no signs, etc. I wonder how this sign did get in, or was it already in?

Wonders have never been more amazing.

They are being handed out at the rallies. there was an article about McCains campaign offices that had a picture of dozens of handmade signs spread out on the floor.

This is a 1965 Voting Rights Act national commercial. President Johnson launched a campaign to inform the public. Many of the issues are so very similar...

I saw another sign in front of McClain on MSNBC.

NOBAMA , with a slash mark through the O.

Does that mean "No" to Obama, or No Obama, like, at all?

What a foolish party. The decent Republicans should be condoning these acts. This is disgraceful and the world is watching. How embarrassing to be affiliated with a party that represents hate, divisiveness, and ignorance.

Obama represents unity, progress, and true leadership. Remember, the world is watching.

While I hate to bring up this subject. The Repubs have incited more hate and hatemongering than Rev. Wright ever could have or would have.

Where is the denouncing?

I guess it depends who spews the hate as to who should denounce it and when.

Where is the media's usual swift condemnation of such incendiary rhetoric? I have actually heard pundits defend McCain, saying he has no choice but to attack in this manner if he wants to win.

Where's MSM on all this really? They've reported slightly, but this should be reported as an OUTRAGE and an EMBARRASSMENT TO AMERICA!

I hope their not watching this blog because this has been nothing but hate. Ya'll need to practice what ya'll preach!

That sign wins a few points for being moderately clever. Come on libs, we are acting like school children. Let's stop crying every time someone calls us a name and turn it to our advantage. I'm proud to be voting for Barack (Hebrew for Blessed) Hussein (Arabic for handsome one) Obama! Boy, if there was ever a self fulfilling name...

Anyway, there are a lot of brilliant minds on our side. Let's put them together and make these people look like the fools they are.

It's not the name calling that's hurting. It's the hatred, bigotry, and violence that has been incited by using terms that stir up enormous grief and pain. Although the sign is mildly amusing it sure as hell isn't funny

You're right, I agree, clever but definitely NOT funny.

It is one thing to reference Hussein, even though most see it as code for Muslim, but to directly link Obama to public enemy No. 1? That is really cra ppy.

This is a dumb sign but at some point you simply need to laugh at it to defuse the "clueliness" in action...

Yeah it's dumb, but clever in a school grade sort of way. It's like having a sign "Barack He's Sane Obama"; because, as we all know, the other guy is a crazy old nut. Yeah, that too is juvenile, but sometimes ya' just gotta say, "Fork it".

Because, the difference is the assessment of Obama is based on based on ignorance and fear; the assessment of McCain's brain is based on experience and observation. We are not going to change that.

You're right. Chill out. These poor souls are not capable of thinking clearly any more than a pig could sing like Pavarotti; they are just not equipped. To expect it is foolish. There's no reason to get bent out of shape.

The more they do this stupid stuff, the better it is for Obama. Even somewhat racist people do not want to be associated with the type of overt racist, slander being made by some McCain supporters. I doubt they represent all of his supporters. If McCain's other supporters were smart, they'd be making a concerted effort to stifle these jerks. If they don't, then it looks like McCain's supporters are all right with it, if not the campaign itself.
