Obama/Osama Sign Outside McCain Rally

As Sen. John McCain's motorcade arrived for a rally at Cape Fear Community College, this sign, featuring a photo of Osama bin Laden in between photos of a cigarette-smoking Sen. Barack Obama and Thomas Wright, a former North Carolina state legislator who was convicted of fraud, was on display outside the venue:

As we exited the press bus, a young man wearing an Obama T-shirt took down the sign and laid it face down on the ground. It was among other signs, including one supporting Sen. Elizabeth Dole. I don't know how long the sign was up, but lots of people were standing around, and it didn't appear to be causing any sort of controversy -- at least not enough to cause any McCain supporters to take it down.

Cape Fear Community College. How appropriate.
Fear and ignorance are the essentials of racism.
Fear and ignorance are all the RNC has left to peddle.

If those hillbillies think that people whose name's rhyme have a lot in common with each other (ex. Charles Danson , Charles Manson) then they are just too stupid to vote. They shouldn't be allowed to.

Of course John McCain does, but when people like the highly respected congressman Lewis call him to task about it the racist then reacts in typical fashion by blaming the messenger and turning logic on its head, claiming that the people who criticize him are themselves racists. Only morons would find it impossible to work that out.

Its awfully juvenile to insult someone by rhyming their name, isn't that like second grade behavior? The Republicans find it incredibly interesting that Osama's first name sounds similar to Barack's last name --wow, that must really mean something. Sarah Silverman made an interesting comment, who ever heard of anyone named Barack being a criminal? Yet there are so many men named "John" who are well known criminals, lots of murderers. Should we judge John McCain by all the serial murderers named John? Its no wonder that the more education one has, the less likely they are to be Republican.

This linking of Obama to Osama by the McCain campaign and their supporters - do they realize at all that they are insulting the memory of the people who died at the hands of Bin Laden? They are making a joke of 9/11 and diminishing the real horror people feel as a result of what that man did to our country.

He killed people. Murdered them. He left broken families and a fractured country. I doubt in an election that FDR would have compared his opponent to Hitler, or Mussolini. He wouldn't have allowed his supporters to either. Political opponents don't deserve to be tied with a mass murderer. It's not only an unfair and ugly analogy, it's childish. Someone running for President shouldn't have to be told that. And if he's fit for the Presidency he shouldn't have to be told to tell his supporters that.

The fact that Obama`s name is written next to a completely different person Osama Bin Laden is offensive and the writers intention that the two go together. They do not.

McCain and Palin should not allow people to bring in homemade signs to their rallies and give out signs like Obama does. There was someone waving a sign saying "Obama bin lyin" at a McCain rally this afternoon. I know he and Palin saw them waving it. If McCain doesn't want to get called out by people like Lewis, then he should take a few steps to stop this behavior. The announce these rallies in the local papers and list items you can and can't bring in...or at least they did for the Obama rally in my home town.

Well, that's the problem. From many reported accounts, the campaign DOESN'T allow homemade signs. All signs are pre-made and distributed before the rallies, meaning someone withing the McCain camp decided that was a good idea. This, along with the admission from a Virginia chairperson that it was good strategy to make Obama/Osama comparisons leads me to believe that John McCain approves that message.

McCain should reject the comments made by his supporters and openly rebuke them. He has not done that so far. Sarah Palin is making it very easy for McCain to loose this election.

McCain has to take full responsibility for this. These posters are a direct result of Plain/McCain negative campaign.
