I've been watching the polls, (I know..... MY BAD) and I don't see Indiana turning, although I would love to be wrong on this. It has been the most stubborn state to change. It's good place for the McCain campaign to be, maybe they can leave Palin there. I wonder what John Mellencamp is thinking now?

I started saying this in primary season. Both Obama and Clinton campaigned in Indiana, and that was the first decent-scale campaigning I've seen here from presidential candidates. And if you actually come and campaign in a state that supposedly "doesn't matter" because it's "locked up" or doesn't have a lot of electoral votes, you might get it--and a couple of those add up!

Obama has continued to campaign here, and we might go Democrat for the first time in...well, I stopped checking with the 1968 election stats, but, since at least 40 years ago.

Indiana has not gone Democrat since 1964 - like Virginia, which is poised to flip this year also. Nobody thought it could happen here in Indiana and now it is very much in play. We don't welcome Palin here, but if it will keep their pitiful campaign on defense, then we'll make the sacrifice and let her spend a few hours here -- just another stamp on her passport! The Indy metro area is going to Obama, but there are enough white hood types down state that they'll drive, even if unemployed and unable to afford the gas, to see that farce.

Wonderful! May she and her people spend boatloads of their cash to no avail. Obama/Biden 2008!

I hope Sarah goes to Gary. She'll get a warm reception there. Really.

I'm in the South Bend area and I can tell you that we have a very large, very energized base of volunteers working for the Obama campaign here. I have been out canvassing the past two weekends. First time for registration blitz before the deadline and then for get out the vote. We are seeing solid support for Obama here -- out of each 10 people I talked to, probably 5 Obama, 3 McCain, 2 Undecided. In Elkhart County where I was the prior weekend, I was working a very much Obama base neighborhood - nearly 100%. If we get the turnout, we will take the state, I have no doubt. It's all about making people show up and follow through. People are motivated this year -- Senator Obama is a leader who speaks to them and their needs and hopes and dreams. We are promoting early voting and emphasizing that every vote is needed. This is OUR campaign and we are working hard to turn the Hoosier state blue this time!

Not sure why my post never appears but thank you. I lived in Mishawaka before I moved to germany two years ago. Of 12 of my voting Indiana family, 10 are picking Obama. Only two die hard Republicans left on my family. That's huge.
Where's my ballot? I requested it a month ago?

Hi LittleGirl, from your former home in the Hoosier state (I'm at work in Mishawaka right now!) I don't know why you would not have received your ballot by now -- I think you should have. Do you have an e-mail address for contacting the Clerk's office to find out where it is? Let me know if I can help you.

Where has Evan Bayh been? He has all but disappeared since he wasn't picked for VP. Kind of like two other well known politicians. Said they would be out there but has anyone really seen them?

Bayh was with Obama last week when he was in Indy, where were you?

At the Great American Beer Festival in Denver. Sorry. Sometimes I have a life. And even though I am nearly a 24 hour a day political junkie, sometimes I miss the one and brief moment sore losers like Bayh and misguided for picking Clinton, sticks his head out on the trail.

But having said that, good for Bayh. He better do all he can if he is a true democrat. He only stuck his head out when he stood a chance for VP and then he went away away again.

He also filled in for Joe Biden at scheduled events for the two days that Biden was off the campaign trail due to his mother-in-law's death. He's been a helpful, enthusiastic surrogate, just in less visible venues.

He needs to do more. His state was pationate for B-rock that was a narrow defeat by C-linton. I am glad he went out for Biden, but I feel like he could be doing more. He has power in his state. Get out there and make sure he crushes Palin's efforts.

People laughed at the 50-state strategy and while it's not a full 50 states, Obama's campaign has stretched McCain and Palin to the breaking point. Heck, Obama's even competing to steal an EV from Nebraska and making McCain have to go to a solidly red state, just to fight to keep one EV. Just amazing!

When you throw in the fact that McCain has to travel with Palin to get any type of decent crowd size, he's limited to where he can compete. Now with him stretched and with him alienating a lot of the Republican "help", the Clintons are going to show up and split up and this race will be done. Hillary will be in Ohio, while Bill goes to North Carolina, while Biden hits Indiana, while Michelle goes to Missouri, and Obama's going to make a surprise visit in West Virginia to wrestle that state free from McCain. Meanwhile, McCain and Palin will show up in Iowa again to badmouth biofuel or maybe California again to rail against gay marriage.

My friends, my running mate and I are experts at abuse of power. We know how to do abuse of power. Senator Obama doesn’t have any experience at abuse of power.

During the '04 election there were only two blue counties in Indiana - Lake (home of Gary) and Monroe (home of IU). An Obama victory in Indiana would be the icing on the cake for this former Hoosier - I've waited my whole life to see Indiana blue on election night.

We're working hard to make that a reality. We have a very realistic chance of doing it -- it's going to come down to which campaign's ground game gets the vote out. My money is on the O Team!

Yes, sending Sarah to Indiana should help Obama.

Has anyone noticed what has happened in Pa? Yes, Sarah was booed in Philly (what did she expect?), but Obama already has Philly wrapped up.

The whole state has turned very blue very fast. Could that have something to do with the Clintons campaigning there with Joe B., and drawing huge crowds?

When the Clintons move on to Ohio, the same thing should happen.

is this the coming of mrs. potatoe head? quayle was the premonition of dubya. now the hoosiers can sample the latest in a string of unqualified republican candidates.

i voted in illinois today. i'm starting to see obama ads in his (my) home state because the media market includes northwest indiana. let's see if palin drops her potatoe in gary and east chicago while she's in the neighborhood.

Obama is running major T.V ads in Chicago. Of course Illinois is locked up, but these ads get heavy air time in Northeastern Illinois.

I think NE Illinois and NW Indiana may be one media market. If so, it's very smart use of money.

They are! NW Indiana picks up the Chicago TV market. There's even a city in NW Indiana called East Chicago that's right in the Gary area. That's Lake County, the second largest county in Indiana. It has a large Black population, slightly more than 25% where the whole state is roughly 9%. It was the county that nearly tipped Indiana to Obama in the Dem primaries.

Indiana can very be the next state to turn blue. Missouri has turned blue and there are still enough days to make that happen. I hope all the IU students in Bloomington will head up to her rally and show her just how blue the state will become.
