I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Apparently, the Sun is going through a calm phase. Well, since the global economy is most definitely anything but calm right now, we thought we'd remind you what the Sun can look like when it turns volatile. (Check out more photos here.)

There is our source of cheap, clean, ENDLESS energy to power the Earth for as long as humans live on it.

Wasting human lives in pursuit of dirty fossil fuel is for fools and dumb bush-McCaint.
Mining the Sun for energy is for the enlightened ninds.

None of this would've been possible without the existence of that one on high Barry Soetoro otherwise now known as Barack Obama. Thanks to his generosity we are ever so fortunate to have these rays from the sun light our day. His kindness, is ever so perfect.

Yeah for a moment I saw his image in one of the photos, what does that mean, am I healed or something?

We are entering a cooling period and that is fact.
As a former global warming supporter, I have looked at much of the science and it is wrong.
man made global warming is not a honest or realistic account of the rise in temperatures.
Now before all the "fake liberals" start going crazy, I urge you to actually look at all the different scientific
views. There was actually a group of 19,000 climate scientist that have debunked global warming.
The reality is that the earth is heading into another ice age over the next 15,000 years.

All this global warming talk is about creating a world carbon tax, that will tax you for breathing.
Its bondage plain and simple. I am all for reducing our carbon imprint, but if that means a global carbon tax you can forget about it. No free man would ever agree to such a thing. But somehow that will end up being the only answer these global warming cool-aid drinkers will come up with.

Hey everybody! The earth is warming!..........Lets all pay some bank a carbon tax!
Huh????????????????????????????????????/
How does that money that you plan to steal from my pocket, stop the sun from warming???????
Dont worry about that, just pay the tax!

Think its a joke? Just watch and see what your lord and master Obama proposes after he wins.

"For 30 years we have been hearing all about free solar power and it still isn't cheap enough to convert."

To the right wingers, apparently the lives of our young men and women ARE cheap enough. What's the cost of thousands of families losing their sons and daughteers, husbands and wives, brothers and sisters in the oil wars when compared to the desire to get a cheap fill-up for an SUV? Why, no comparison at all.

Sigh.

Measurements taken from space (the best way to measure solar irradiance) show a slight fluctuation in sunlight in a repeating period of about 11 years or so. This does not account for the steady rise in temperatures we've been seeing over the last century. This ridiculous talking point from the shills of the energy industry has been easily refuted again and again.

Is it me or does that third pic resemble an incredibly nsfw pic that floated about the Intarweb, well... like a moon?

Butt anyway, those pics , false color and all, are always spectacular.

Warning: Don't look at these pics with the naked eye.

I understand that the Chinese are leading the world in solar cell manufacturing.
09:14 AM on 10/14/2008
You have finally discovered the REAL REASON for climate swings. We're now heading into a cooling cycle. Do not throw away your parkas and mittens, kids. The era of global warming (which was solar-system-wide) is over.
09:34 AM on 10/14/2008
Your statement is to simple and overlooks the extensive knowledge base that the scientific community has amassed.

There are three cycles that the Earth moves through as it rotates on its axis and rotates around the sun. The cycles very in years of length.

Man's influence on the enviroment is easily seperated out from these cycles.

The entire manmade global warming THEORY is based on computer models. These are linear models of a chaotic system and thus inherently inaccurate. If they do not come out the way the modelers THINK they should, they simply fudge the parameters.

Basing a horrendous upheaval in the economy and its energy requirements on a completely flawed and provably inaccurate set of computer models is crazy.

And what would happen, theoretically, if we didn't HAVE AN ATMOSPHERE?
WE WOULD FREEZE TO DEATH.

Atmosphere is necessary for life. Make and atmosphere denser and the temperature HEATS UP and that's why VENUS is HOTTER THAN MERCURY!

And that's exactly what we are doing..making the atmopshere denser.

Please do some simple research.

Pardon me but I guess you flunked science didn't you?
01:57 PM on 10/14/2008
Of course not. I majored in organic chemistry and have a medical degree. I frequently brush up on my old college math texts. Statistics are a hobby of mine.

What does your RIDICULOUS statement about the atmosphere have anything to do with what we are talking about? You are trying to equate having an atmosphere with knowing enough about the atmosphere and climate and various currently unknown variables and their interaction that we can predict future climate.

It is much the same as your claiming we have clothing and so you can predict whether people 1000 years from now will have hairy armpits.

Every time I walk outside I am reminded of the volitile sun. Try living all year round where it's always hot outside.

Frankly, this website needs it's own space section IMO.

It's those darn tax cuts to those of us who pay taxes that caused the sun to calm down.
09:16 AM on 10/14/2008
I blame George W. Bush.

But what do you call a welfare check to people who don't pay taxes? You cal lit a tax cut! Obama has redefined welfare. It's now a tax cut. It's similar to Clinton's redefining government spending as "investment."

You're off to an early morning troll aren't you?

Otherwise, you have effectively demonstrated an astounding level of ignorance on the topics of economics and science within a couple of posts. Quite an impressive feat. Well done!

The sun gives off less heat compared to mass, than the human body. Amazing. That black sun-spot is almost as big as the earth.
09:17 AM on 10/14/2008
I have a difficult time understanding how that is possible. I don't have nuclear reactions going on in my body. I burn at a consistent 98.6, and the sun is much hotter than that.

It's not that hard; just a simple ratio.. humans are around 75K, and the sun is around 1.98892 x 10^30 KG. Humans burn at around 98.6F, and the Sun burns at around 11000F

So the Temperature/Mass ratio for the sun is 5.53064 x 10^-27 (much less than zero), and the same ratio for humans is 1.31.

Not sure why this is important tho :)

It's a ratio thing, to put it simply. Our bodies give off more heat PER unit of mass than the sun does per unit of mass. You have to forget about size difference or the processes involved and just focus on mass vs. energy output.

Say a guy twice your size farts the same amount as you. You therefore give off more farts per unit of mass than him. QED!

All that energy, absolutely free of charge.

And here we are, sending our boys and girls to die for oil.

The human species: an exercise in stupidity.

Well said, I have 24 solar panels and they make enough electricity for me and some goes to my neighbors . I challenge all of you to do the same. There are in Vermont grants of $8400 for anyone putting in solar arrays. I feel sure other states have similar programs. I'm 62 and took the money out of my IRA.
