"The Daily Show" Goes Global, Picked Up In Middle East And Across Europe

CANNES -- Political pundit Jon Stewart and pre-school phenom "Dora the Explorer" head the list of shows MTV Networks Intl. has racked up deals for on the eve of MIPCOM.

The Viacom-owned unit comes to Cannes with some 4,000 hours of content and 30-odd format offerings across brands Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central, BET, CMT and Spike.

"Dora the Explorer" has cut a swathe through Scandinavia, with first-ever signings with NRK Norway and TV2 Denmark. Comedy Central's "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart: Global Edition" has been snapped up for the first time by Gulf Showtime in the Middle East, by SBS in Sweden and by Macedonia's A1 and has been renewed by NRK in Norway and Portugal's SIC. The company has inked 13 new deals for Nick1s Asian-inspired animation series "Avatar," including with TV2 in Denmark, 2x2 in Russia and ETB in Spain.
