One of Hollywood's few Republicans has switched his vote. Dennis Hopper, 72, told reporters in France that he's praying for an Obama victory, despite decades as a Bush supporter.

"I voted for Bush, father and son, but this time I'll vote for Obama," he told journalists at the opening of a show on his life and work.

"I was the first person in my family to have been Republican," he added. "For most of my life I wasn't on the left."

"I pray God, Barack Obama is elected," he said, calling the current administration's many "lies."

Hopper stars in "An American Carol," a conservative comedy that spoofed Michael Moore and last donated money, in 2004, the RNC.

French Culture minister Christine Albanel also named Dennis Hopper as Commander of the 'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres' medal on Monday night.

i always find it curious when a thoughtful, well cultured person votes republican.my dad is the same way.doesnt it say something about conservatism that it is such an anomoly?

I know a lot of Republicans like Hopper. They're more anti-Bush than pro-Obama.
In '04 McCain was the most popular politician in America - of either party. McCain's not losing to Obama, he's losing, again, to Bush. The incompetence of the Bush Administration (i.e., out of control spending, Katrina, the Iraq fiasco, torture, etc.) and Congressional scandals (i.e., Cunningham, Abramoff, etc.) have made it impossible for Americans to trust Republicans.
Time for a Change.

Odd that he'd do that crappy right-wing movie and then pray Obama wins. Hmmm...

How utterly Dennis' right-wing proclivities contrast with the Dennis that made "Heaven's Gate" with Michael Cimino. Seek out the history of that sordid, multi-million-dollar excuse to do lots and lots of cocaine on the net. It's a laugh riot.

Dennis, I love your acting - glad to have you back. It doesn't surprise me that someone as radical as you turned to the political right. I knew lots of guys back in the early 70's who went so far out on drugs and freedom (without responsibility) that sometimes they ended up seeking firm boundaries - something to contain them - that is, the ones who survived. I knew guys who became Jesus freaks and Republicans (remember that guy named Dylan). Anyway, I have some idea just how far out you went (I was out there for a while myself) and, like I said, I welcome you back.

I forgot to add that he must be a really selfish person cause he probably turned republican cause he was making money. He admitted he was the first in his family to be republican. What a sellout!

Somehow I'm not convinced. After all he just came out on American Carol. Could he have reform because of the movie was a total flop in the box office cause nobody and I mean nobody wants to see those aholes at the movies.

We're praying with you Dennis. Even people that do not believe in prayer are asking God for a coup.

" Even people that do not believe in prayer are asking God for a coup." Don't you find that a bit selfish and self serving, convenient and a lot of nerve? I see this attitude in a lot posts by Obama supporters. Unbelievable.

Those of us that do believe in prayer and pray on a regular basis would tell you this - God listens to all prayers and answers them all. Sometimes the answer is NO.

And Dennis needs a job, he just switched sides cause H'wood is almost all liberal and I guess even with all of the commercials he has done he is not independently wealthy.

WTF?? Deathbed conversion? I was soooo disappointed to know that Dennis Hopper was a right-winger. The guy with Peter Fonda in Easy Rider voting republican? Unbelievable. I never thought pot smoking Dennis would be a republican. But I guess he's Okay now that he's seen the light. Vote OBAMA! He's intelligent and truly cares about American unlike John and Cindy McCain that just have to have the White House. That's the only thing the two have to aspire to! We need Barack Hussein Obama as the 44th POTUS! We love you!

Dennis, welcome to the left. We'll have a government big enough for all of us. I see the light except for one little problem.........................hard to accept the abortion position. Does he really want his future fifteen yr old daughters to cross state lines, without he and michelle's knowledge, and do the deed?
Oh yeah, while you're praying, you might want to ask for God's blessing over the LIVES of all the aborted souls and those to follow.

hmmm why is this our business?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:50 PM on 10/16/2008

I believe it is very much my business, as well as every parents business that Obama voted Yea;
Yes ..to allow a girl as young as TWELVE to cross state lines without parental permission to get an abortion! It is unbelievable to me that this is of no concern to all the parents out there. As much as I may admire about Obama..this Independent voter could never vote for one who would take such a crucial and important right away from a parent. I stand with Democrats on some issues and with Republicans on others. My biggest issue with Democrats is being too liberal to the point of stomping on the rights of others. When it comes to taking away the right of a parent to be involved and give support in such a Life Decision as this with their young daughter...that's where I draw the line.

He's been a sellout from the beginning. Why should anyone care now what he or any other pop culture personality thinks?

Yes, let's just bow down and subjugate ourselves to the King & Queen of Hate. We must hate anyone who doesn't kiss the b.utt of our beloved King & Queen. We are zombies. We were born to follow. We must protect our King & Queen. Hail to the King & Queen of Hate. May your fear mongering reign for decades to come. We will light the world with hate.
