Bush-Supporter Dennis Hopper Switches His Vote: "I Pray" Obama Wins

One of Hollywood's few Republicans has switched his vote. Dennis Hopper, 72, told reporters in France that he's praying for an Obama victory, despite decades as a Bush supporter.

"I voted for Bush, father and son, but this time I'll vote for Obama," he told journalists at the opening of a show on his life and work.

"I was the first person in my family to have been Republican," he added. "For most of my life I wasn't on the left."

"I pray God, Barack Obama is elected," he said, calling the current administration's many "lies."

Hopper stars in "An American Carol," a conservative comedy that spoofed Michael Moore and last donated money, in 2004, the RNC.

French Culture minister Christine Albanel also named Dennis Hopper as Commander of the 'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres' medal on Monday night.

Balance. How about we try for a "middle way" government? A government that actually works? Nationalize the crucial stuff vital to our nation interests and allow small business freedom on mainstreet. Im for smaller government, so lets list out the things that our government can do without:

Smaller defense budget - We outspend the next 30 industrialized nations combined. If we didnt put another dollar in it would still take the Chinese a generation to catch up to where we are now.

Stay out of the bedroom - why would a government care who someone loves/likes/has sex with? Telling people who can and cant get married is LARGE government.

Stay out of the garden - why do we spend billions of dollars to put people behind bars for completely victimless crimes? I can grow grapes, press them, make wine (prob tastes awful though), and get completely sh@t faced while watching Bill Mahar, and no problem for anyone. Yet if someone wants to grow hemp, dry the leaves, and get completely sh@t faced on that while watching Bill Mahar, its against the law. WTF is that? LARGE government.

If you really wanted lower taxes, just make over 1 million. At that income you only pay 19% because of the tax write offs. Yet at my measly salary, im still paying 32%.

I'm not really impressed. Anybody who voted for Bush Jr. does not get my respect. The only possible reason Hopper changed his mind is because now he has irrefutable evidence that Republicanism as practiced by the Bush Administration is a virulent, self serving, arrogant and indifferent philosophy, which simply states, "screw everything and everybody else the only thing of value is to make money". Well this philosophy has now come home to roost. First the environment showed signs that we were destroying everything around us with this shortsighted greedy political philosophy, now it is in the process of destroying the very economies it was supposed to be all about. We are now paying the price for our greedy self serving ways.

Actually Hopper is not a drinker and he is actually quite a nice guy. I have dealt with him personally on a many occasions. Many people here seem to be getting his characters mixed up with his true persona. Many of these like him saw Bush as a winner primarily because of his tax bribes. Like most intelligent and reasonable people, even those that once supported Bush, they eventually see the light.
