Chicago Sun-Times:

Joe Ahern, one of Chicago's most high-profile and flamboyant media executives was fired Tuesday after six tumultuous years as president and general manager of CBS-owned WBBM-Channel 2.

Ahern, 63, broke the news to stunned staffers and left the station without public comment. The move came just three weeks after he oversaw the opening of the station's new broadcast facility at 22 W. Washington.

Named to replace Ahern was Bruno Cohen, 57, who most recently has been president and general manager of KMAX-TV and KOVR-TV in Sacramento, Calif.
