Someday, when we can take interest in and appreciate our individual differences, instead of turning away from them, but that day is not here yet.

This is funny because it does speak to the idiotic nature of people voting on the issue of color. Like David Allen Grier said, just vote for the white half. I'm African American and I approve this message!

PGet over it. He's like most of us, a bit of this, a bit of that. So what? All I'm asking for in a President is someone who has a brain and knows how to use it.

Obama is not black. He is more like a Chocolate shake, but please explain to me why, even though he is 50/50 (is that right?), he acts and speaks like he is black?

Elaborate on how he does that, because I haven't seen it. I completely forget that he is half-black when I listen to him and watch him speak.

"he acts and speaks like he is black?"

NOT!

But he crosses all racial barriers. Obama is the epitome of how America ought to think and act if we are to survive. It is about all of us coming together regardless of race, color, creed, or class and working together for the welfare of this country.

Better yet, let Barack Obama enlighten THEM, as to what exactly "acting and speaking Black" is! You know?..intelligent, confident, thoughtful, diplomatic and empathetic, a voice of reason..characteristics you seek in a President!

And, hell!..what should matter and be of concern are those..lyin', innuendo-castin', seein' Russia from her house, war-mongerin', "that one" nonsensical,
mean-spirited, shameful, CUH-RAZY "actin' and speakin' White" folks, John McCain and Sarah Palin!

There is no such thing! I am Black and I speak both so called "Ebonics" and standard english. I use them interchangeably. I am from Baltimore and If I meet someone, regardless of race, I quickly and unconsciously access which manner I should use to best make the other person more comfortable. I have had people ask me if I am from Baltimore and I tell them yes, but I can Dis, Dat, Deese and Doze wid the best of em.

Speaking purely in genetics, for instance, dogs, those "mutts" usually live longer, have healthier lives than pure bred dogs because of a more broad genetic makeup.

There are a lot of mixed race people in this country, more than one would imagine. Just look around sometimes, open your eyes. We are increasingly becoming a nation of "mutts" and that's a good thing, IMHO.

Yes, KarateKid, there are a lot of mixed race people inthis country. A lot of them know, but I have a feeling that many of them don't even know it. I suspect any one who's family was here on American soil anytime since the 1500s has a good chance of having African blood or being related to someone who does.

It is interesting to read the comments in this forum. As a person of color, we tend to look at mixed races as the other race, and whites tend to do the same. It sort of puts him in no man's land, but that's how it is. Unless someone has two parents of the same race, the people of that race don't count them as one of them. This is why, even though he has a white mother, most whites look at Obama as black.

The fact that he is going to be President is a good thing for that reason. He has no loyalty to EITHER race, and to his credit, he has NOT played the race card like the Republicans have.

You're absolutely right. I am of Filipino and Mexican descent, and I can tell you from experience that each side would unequivocally say that I was from "the other side". It's a shame that so many people do think this way, but what can you do? I'd love to see the day when we're all simply American.

Anyway, I thought the video was hilarious. With all the crap that's been going on lately, I needed the laughs.

Senator Obama is biracial. Most people of African ancestry in the Americas (including the Caribbean) are mixed with European and African blood. 1 in 10 Americans have mixed blood. I don't understand why Greir would get involved with the Fox distraction game. I guess they paid him well! Some of us will do anything for a quick buck ... not Dave Chappelle that's why he's not around. Shame on you Alan!! THE CHOICE THIS NOVEMBER IS BETWEEN SENATORS OBAMA AND JOHN McCAIN!

It was irony and sarcasm. Grier was actually making fun of people who won't vote for Obama because he's Black, by telling them if you can't, then just vote for the white part. of him. At the same time, he was pretending that Obama is not black enough for black people--again, to encourage prejudiced people to vote for Obama.

I know you realize this already. But I'm pointing this out for those who are afraid that just bringing up the black thing will cause people to vote against him. I don't think so. People have had time now to get used to him, and the idea of his family being the first family. Haven't you ever had a white friend who gets used to you and "forgets" you're black and makes a racist remark--and doesn't even realize it? That's how the country is coming to view Obama. They're becoming comfortable with him. And I think they will vote for him.

How soon we forget. Most of us of African American descent can trace our family history back to our white ancestry. And yet, we tend to have as much of a problem with Obama's mixed heritage as some whites do. Someone please help me to understand this.

The truth of the matter is that Barack Obama is not racially black. We in the hispanic world have a term that is well suited for him which is MULATO and the irony of it is that Barack Obama is not a member of black america either, but he belongs to the white america anglo-saxon ethnicity.

Well, we in the Hispanic world come in a rainbow of colors and flavors too. I'm a very pale Hispanic woman that often gets mistaken for Italian, and there are many green-eyed Mexican Americans. We've been able to focus on our culture and not color per se. Tal vez you haven't noticed that none of us actually call each other "mulato." That's so Spanish colonial.

It's time that we start focusing on American culture in its myriad of facets and not on the color.

Do you say he's not a member of Black America because he's not Wesley Snipes black, or because he doesn't use the stereotypical "black patois"? Let's tread lightly here. He doesn't have to speak jive to be a Black American.

None of us here in the USA are racially anything. I remind my husband that I actually have more European blood in me, because his Oklahoma background includes a lot of indigenous blood that I personally do not have. This is why we're so pretty in the USA: we have good mixtures of everything!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Just because he doesn't speak it, doesn't mean he can't.

Many of us can, and don't.

Thank you so much for this post. I am sharing this with my African American, French ancestry, Indian ancestry, Anglo American and African American-hispanic grandchildren. We do confuse our children so about their identity. As for culture, I am enjoying this marriage of the many cultures in our family. And you are right on about the beauty of Americans. I will just be glad when we can appreciate that fact as much as others who admire this about America.

First of all, there is no such thing as "race" is it a construct entirely created by eugenics proponents and social darwinists in the 19th and early 20th century. We are all one "race" comprised of different ethnicities, cultures, and skin tones.

Secondly, Mulato is a highly offensive term, derived, as it is, from the word "mule." A mule is a STERILE offspring of an ass and a horse. Two creatures belonging to different species. Human beings are all one species.

Sorry. But, this whole terminology has to be revised if we're really going to progress.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:17 PM on 10/14/2008

If I'm not mistaken, the hispanic culture of Central and South America has some similarities to black and white America in that discrimination based on the color of one's skin (hispanics of mainly African descent) exists still? Which leads me to believe that your comment about Obama not being black but BELONGING to white America is WAY off-base and steeped in the historical significance of African slaves in and throughout North, Central, South America. THIS mindset is precisely what the USA is trying to overcome and this election is apart of that.
