CTA customers will soon be able to sign up to receive e-mail alerts about service disruptions caused by emergencies, equipment problems or routine construction, transit officials said today.
The e-mail notifications and improvements to the Chicago Transit Authority's Web site are part of a "comprehensive customer communications plan'' that CTA President Ron Huberman will outline at a noon news conference, officials said.
Communicating effectively with customers to provide helpful, real-time information has been a chronic weak point at the CTA, despite earlier attempts to improve.
