Vogue Profiles Biden Women, Declares Victory For Democrats

Vogue takes a bold political step with its November cover, headlining a feature on the Biden Women "All The Vice President's Women."

The feature, which includes a beautiful spread of four generations of the women in Joe Biden's life (seen below), describes Jill Biden as "remarkable" and is based on the premise that, "If Senator Biden is elected, he'll bring along a close-knit family of strong, independent women."

But while the article includes the conditional "if," the headline, and cover line, treat the Bidens as if the election is a done-deal and Jill has already started picking out the curtains for Number One Observatory Circle (the official Vice Presidential mansion).

A representative for Vogue said of the cover line, "Win or lose, we thought it was a clever coverline that would serve to get people's attention."

The magazine's editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, also used her November editor's letter to talk about the growing presence of women in politics, and to highlight the magazine's previous coverage of political women (including its prescient profile of Sarah Palin in the February issue).

Wintour, who made headlines when she used her February editor's letter to chide Hillary Clinton for refusing to appear in the fashion magazine's pages, praised the New York Senator, calling her a "transcendent figure" and saying "she has made an important intervention in the lives of all American women, not simply with her drive and catalyzing energy but by keeping issues of special concern to us — health care, reproductive rights, education — at the forefront of political thinking."

Wintour further said that she was "frankly stunned" by the Biden women's "loveliness and poise" and described Jill Biden as "beautiful and largely private."

When America produces good mothers like these, the essential ingredient for great sons (daugthers) has been accomplished. I believe , what we're looking at in the photos is an excellent example of intelligent classy women.

I am a fervent Obama/Biden supporter. I think they are a fantastic asset for America. I think the McCain team would be catastrophic if elected.
But if I was wavering in the middle,the nasty,superficial and Stepfordy comments of some of these posts would send me the other way.
This sort of stuff,inferring moral quality and good clean American family values from people's looks is just as hateful and shallow from the Democrat side as when it comes from the Republicans.
Just because Vogue is so image-based does that mean we have to be?

It is so clear who the right choice is ....a close knit family and not one of the young ladies is with child...at the risk of being judgemental that whole Palin's pregnant teen is just bad parenting.

From the moment I heard that Sarah Palin's daughter was pregnant it was clear to me that Todd and Sarah Palin neglected their children due to their lust for power. Both the McCain family and the Palin family are dysfunctional.

With a PhD, classy takes on a double meaning! Won't it be nice to have two smart women by the sides of the men running the country instead of an old nearly bottom of his class man with his cadre of less intelligent women surrounding him and feeding his ego while they put on their Barbie Doll clothing, stilettos and all and say yes to his eveyr whim? I am tired of republican robots in the first ladies roles and sure don't' want someone with SAT scores 200 points or more below mine waiting for him to die. Even Laura Bush has been a disappointment with her pasted on high society smile. But she made her bargain to live in that lifestyle. I bet at one time in her life she was actually real. I love that in my life time not one Democratic wife has been a stand by my man with a pasted smile on my face acting like the spouse of royalty walking two steps behind type like Mamie, Barbara, Laura, Nancy, and Pat. (God bless Betty Ford, she was a closet Dem I am convinced). Democratic men don'e seem to need to control their wives and actually support their wife's independence. The way the treat their wives tells volumes about their basic respect for ALL citizens.

Obama has from the beginning referred to Michele as "the boss" and "the closer on the campaign trail." Biden at his opening rally as vp candidate referred to his wife respectfully and proudly as "drop-dead gorgeous." We all know what McCain on record has called his wife. Observe the lack of feeling when Cindy air-kisses and stiffly hugs her husband on the stump stage, and contrast that with the genuine love and affection the Obamas show one another.

To have a president and a vice president that so openly values the women in their lives will reach beyond the White House and into society, manifesting in a heightened respect and regard for women on so many levels (equal pay, abused women's rights, and on and on).
