I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Hank Williams

Country singer Hank Williams, Jr joined the McCain-Palin campaign in in Virginia on Monday. Appearing at a rally Williams sang a version of his one-time hit song "Family Tradition" called "McCain-Palin Tradition," with all new lyrics. In the song he now sings of the liberal media, hunting and radical friends. The McCain could use a good song, as they've been told to stop using songs by Heart, Jackson Browne, Van Halen, the Foo Fighters, so far.

Watch the performance or scroll down for the lyrics:

New lyrics:

The left wing liberal media have always been a real close knit family
But most of the American people dont believe em anyway you see
Stop and think it over
Before you make your decision
If they smell something wrong, they're gonna come down strong
You know McCain-Palin tradition
John and Sarah tell you just what they think. They're not gonna blink. And they don't have radical friends to whom their careers are linked
John is his own man
And Sarah fixed Alaska's broken condition
They're gonna be just fine
Were headed for good times
You know McCain-Palin Tradition
This old unions got problems
That is plain to see
The democrats bankrupted Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac
Like 1-2-3
The bankers didn't want to make all those bad loans
Bill Clinton said "you got to!"
Now they wanna bail out
what I'm talking about
Is a democrat liberal hoodoo!
To me and you
John and Sarah tell you just what they think
And they're not gonna blink
They're gonna fix this country, cuz they're just like you and ol Hank
I am very proud
Of our country's name
But no society is perfect
And we have had our stains
If I'm down at the coffee shop
Somebody wants to start do give our flag friction
I say please move on, were standing strong
Thats an Old John McCain tradition
John and Sarah tell you just what they think
And they're not gonna blink
They're gonna fix this country, cuz they're just like you and ol Hank
If I'm down at the coffee shop
Somebody wants to start do give our flag friction
I say please move on, were standing strong
Thats an Old Sarah Palin tradition
Some are bound to tell you
I'm preaching to the choir
And that is very true, and we are going even higher
Like a Mama bear in Idaho
She'll protect your family's condition
If you mess with her cubs, shes gonna take off the gloves, thats an American female tradition
Ehi tell me Sarah why do you hunt
John why do you fish
How can you be so smart and savvy
such a hey good-looking dish
Yes John is his own man
And Sarah fixed Alaska's broken condition
Were gonna see the light, they're gonna get it right, its a McCain-Palin tradition

I find it frightening, if not telling, that Hank Williams Jr is being embraced by the McCain-Palin campaign. Though I am not at all surprised that Hank Jr. is so passionate about the GOP ticket that he wrote a song about it.

Hank Williams Jr is a blatant RACIST!

Back when I was in grad school in Missouri, I attended a Hank Jr. concert. I was appalled by what I heard from this singer and actually stopped listening to country music altogether afterwards. As Hank came out onto the stage he made some comment about the crowd, being all white. He then pointed out that he doesn't have any "monkeys" working on his staff. (yes, he said monkeys). He then looked down to the floor directly in front of the stage where a Black man was working as security. He put this "surprised" look on his face and covered his mouth like he had just made a gaff, then laughed it off. Later in the show he sang a popular song of his fathers, I think it was Kaw-Liga, that has been covered by many artists. But he sang it has he thought Charlie Pride (a Black country singer) would have covered it, and put in all these "Yo's" and used other racial stereotyped language and behavior.

I think someone needs to be aware of this, and recognize that the only reason Hank is so excited about McCain is because the opposition is Black!

Peace
John

Im hear you, and i agree, its long past time for us time get past our own bigotry, ALL of us, or try to daily, hourly. but i do pity him a little. hes had a weird life, hes an alchoholic and a coke head.he comes across to me as a bit tragic, in a sad sack kind of way.

I just love my 'Skins too much to see their symbolism drapped over this hairy, untalented ape. Best way to retaliate is for my 'Skins to come out and kick Cleveland on Sunday. Come on 'Skins...do it for Hank!!

If a Washington Redskins jersey could talk, it would be screaming, "Oh dear lord, please tear me off this man before I choke from the stench!"

Wow, that is just bad writing. Politics aside, that is just terrible! I want to know what Palin "reformed" in Alaska, besides violating state ethics abusing her power. I also find it very ironic that "ol Hank" mentions the union is having problems, because her associations with radical groups (**ahem** AIP)

I find it VERY fitting he used a song about being a drunk inbred stoner to praise the McCain/Palin campaign. He HAD to have been high to claim their descriptions of these idiots. becuase there is not one word in that entire non-sensical word vomit that is even relevant to them.

This is not the first time Hank Jr. has show poor judgment in supporting a candidate running a nasty campaign. According to his autobiography, Living Proof published in 1979 by Putnam and written with Michael Bane, Hank did benefits in 1968 for George C. Wallace (page 147 paperback edition). The book also includes a photo taken with Wallace with a caption under it with some advice that Hank Jr. 2008 should take from Hank Jr. 1979: 'Politics and performers are touchy subjects - One should probably stay clear of the other, to tell the truth. But such is not always the case, as this picture with Governor George Wallace flanked by me a Willie Nelson shows.' (I've got the picture but don't know how to upload it to the web.)

I don't know how long it will take, six months, maybe a year. But I do hope that all these people like Hank who keep suggesting Obama has radical relations, feel like the jackasses they are when they figure out the truth.

Are you kidding? Jr made a fortune on his own. He was huge - great songwriter and performer - but he's a different breed. You're not going to like his politics, but that has nothing to do with his talent or his impact on country music.

I agree with that. Good music I used to love or not, though, he has irredeemably ruined himself in my eyes.

The Huffington Post headline is incorrect.

There is a big difference between Hank Williams and Hank Williams Jr.

This is rich, a red neck racist country western singer is going to somehow gain McCain/Palin the independant middle of the road voters, he is merely entertaining the ones whom McCain/Palin have in the pocket already the red neck racists, dixiecrats whom will not vote for Obama for personal racial prejudice, this group has always been the base to the repulican party, it makes for good entertainment at their ralley's, but will not get them any votes from the non racists, independants whom neither fit as democrats or republicans, this play will be backfire for what it is....pure and simple, and I am white southerner whom can see thru this ruse so easily!

I do not think think it is about racsim but about experence. Oboma do'nt have the leadership skills this country needs! Hell he has never served his country, so what business do's he have running our country ? Any body running for that office should at least have served in some form of armed forces. I'm also a white southener who is tierd of all the racist crap

"they get on me wanna know Hank
why do you drink?
(Hank) why do you roll smoke?
Why must you live out the songs that you wrote?
over and over
everybody made my prediction
so if i get stoned
I'm just carryin'
on an old family tradition".

From the original lyrics. Whose willing to bet the above are NOT Republican family traditions?
