Andrew Sullivan posted some footage of former Monty Python writer and performer John Cleese discussing the Republican vice presidential candidate. Cleese bemoans the fact that Michael Palin is no longer the funniest Palin and says:

Can they not see that she's basically learned certain speeches? ... It's like a nice-looking parrot because the parrot speaks beautifully and kind of says, "aw shucks" every now and again but doesn't really have any understanding of the meaning of the words that it is producing, even though it is producing them very accurately

Sarah and John will fade into oblivion after their defeat at the hands of BHO, but sheesh -Monty Python = overrated. Who actually cares what a geriatric Brit has to say about anything over here. Wasn't this country founded by people trying to get away from pompous blowhards like Cleese? He's another one whose success confounds me. Like Madonna, the other big mouth Brit. Or is she from Detroit?

John Cleese and the Monty Python troupe built their careers around parodies of the pompous blowhard "establishment" in the UK, first in their comedy skits, and later in their movies. They relentlessly assaulted all that was british about being British. If you don't understand this, then you either have never actually seen their material, or can't grasp the concept of satire and ridicule... Whether you like their style or not, one thing is certain, you are dead wrong in your assessment of who these people are, and of their contributions to modern humor !

Also contrary to your incorrect accusation, Cleese is not a "big mouth". After retiring from comedy he has kept largely out of the public eye. The fact that he is a Brit, and old, does not take away from the fact that he is intelligent and very well informed.

Lastly, Madonna is an AMERICAN ! So pretty much all that you've said, or assumed is flat out WRONG.

If it wasn't for your statement about Sara the Governor and John the Mav'rick, I would have guessed you to be yet another uninformed Republican troll, mouthing off confidently on subjects about which you know nothing.

If you don't think Cleese is funny, fine, but as a Democrat, please make the effort to inform yourself before sharing your wisdom. We have enough "Crazy McCain Rally Women" out there already ;)

Cleese said it best: McCain should have picked Michael Palin for VP.

Max Blumenthal, anwriter for "The Nation" has done investigative reporting far more damaging to Sarah Palin, available on his website:

I'll only laugh when Palin tries to tell us the best whopper yet: That she didn't lose the election, when all the returns prove she did. (Hope they change the locks on the VP residence...)

Speaking of Monty Python, they could have made this short on Sarah. Check it out. Funny if it wasn't so scary-true: runamukcompany.com/sound.html

Dream on, Cleese, you guys were never silly enough to write this.

Also, you guys were funny.

Monty Python is funny. Sarah Palin? Not so much. Mean, yes. Scary, yes. Prejudiced, yes. Stupid, yes. But funny? That's stretching it.

John Cleese speaks for the entire globe - outside certain (or is that cretin?) factions of the US of course.

Never mind the 'reverse Bradley effect', there will be a reverse Palin effect on 4 Nov.

opps! forget the 'reverse' bit. must be getting too excited at the thought of Obama and Biden in the White House : )

When irony is lost on the masses because they simply cannot grasp reality any longer, we are truly in troubled times.
