I Like ItI Don’t Like It

With three weeks to go in the election, the current, most influential narrative is that the crowds at John McCain events have become so vitriolic as to represent an electoral liability.

In response, the McCain camp has spent several days defending itself from what the Senator deemed the "fringe" elements of his rallies. On CNN this Monday, McCain claimed that Obama crowds had called him a terrorist as well.

The frame, however, seems difficult for McCain to move, in part because it is backed by documentary evidence. On Tuesday, Brave New Films and Color of Change (one of the nation's most influential Black American political organizations) put out a veritable greatest (really, worst) hits of the past week in McCain-Palin rallies.

The video leaves out the Senator's town hall last Friday, where he corrected two audience members who expressed concerns about Obama. But the spot is effective in reinforcing the notion that McCain-Palin is the ticket of at best, fear and at worse, xenophobia and bigotry.

Color for Change accompanied the release by sending members an open letter to McCain; part of which reads:

"In the last few weeks, Senator McCain and Governor Palin, rhetoric at your campaign events has taken an increasingly dangerous tone that seems to ignore the precarious state of our progress when it comes to race and ethnicity...

... For the most part, you have stood by in silence. In addition, you have also repeatedly made statements that somehow connect Senator Obama with terrorism; surrogates of yours have emphasized his middle name. This is problematic and dangerous, and I believe helps create the conditions that have given rise to these incidents of violent rhetoric from some of your supporters."

With three weeks to go in the election, the current, most influential narrative is that the crowds at John McCain events have become so vitriolic as to represent an electoral liability. In response,...

It seems as if this appears to be the makings of a civil war... is this what those dumbf**ks want or are even aware they are trying to stir up? This is just so incredibly toxic.

I agree. Toxic is an excellant choice of words, unfortunately, it's real.

Some of these people are very hateful, like "Curious George" guy, but some of them, like the older, "Obama is an Arab" lady are clearly not right in the head. She seemed like she had a touch of dimentia to me. It's sad that she's so messed up, but it's also sad that she's become a web-celeb.

...but the rest of those angry hags deserve to be seriously internet-shamed all over the world.

The video represents the republican party's final death rattle, and the sound is full of fear and hate.

All that remains of it now is the basest of the base -- a group of people sick and twisted by the hatred and fear that Karl, George, Dick, Rush, Shaun and Bill-O -- and those of their ilk -- have nurtured and fed. They are brainwashed and they are victims of a concerted effort to create artificial division in our country for monetary and political gain.

John McCain, to his shame, has chosen to take advantage of their fear and hatred in an effort to win, but the neocons have already gone to the well too many times, and it's not working anymore. Too many people are waking up from that nightmare and want change.

Once this election is over, we need to come together and reach out to our fellow citizens, so that they will never again fall prey to the kind of propaganda that McCain and others have used to manipulate them. We need to teach children in school about propaganda so that they will recognize it when they see it. Tolerance is our only hope as a country.

..

That film was NOTHING. Get some of the hate on audio, not MSM commentary.

It's happening, now get it on CAMERA.

Because that "film" was NOTHING.

Holy cow....I'm almost embarrassed to be white! The only thing that saves me is knowing that these people do not represent all of us. It is high time for the hateful base to be shown that bigots no longer have a place in OUR America.
Where are their 'Christian values'?
That man with the monkey..laughing made me sick to my stomach.
Shameful, absolutely shameful.

Don't be embarrassed. The good thing that came of this mess was that lots of white people from both parties condemned this nonsense. These people do not represent whites anymore than O.J. Simpson represents a black person like me. These people are scum and should be treated as such.

As as black woman in this country, I have to tell you that the guy that scared me the most was the one with the doll, he looked really evil. I am realy shaken watching this and I feel really cold. Not sure what is going to happen, but I think that Obama needs even more protection than he has now.
This is serious scary, scary stuff. I also felt really helpless.

Hi debragw. Yah, that is a shame, scary, and unnacceptable behavior. It freaks me out that humans have such potential to be THAT hateful. I pray that it stops. I am voting and believe that after the election, "everyone" needs to give the winner a chance to does his job with out feeling threatend. Tonight's final debate will be interesting and I look forward to hearing both candidates summerize their campaign in front of the world. God Bless you.

Please don't feel helpless; you're not alone, and we are finally get this 'Southern strategy' stuff out into the open so that the majority of Americans can thoroughly condemn it! It is scary, and that's why we have to VOTE and make sure everyone we know does the same. Bless you.

A McCain supporter was on MSNBC this weekend and stated this was just "bad manners". Even when he was asked about people yelling "kill him", McCain's supporter said it was just "bad manners". Seriuosly, bad manners??? It's frightening to see McCain and Palin nonchalantly stoking the flames of fear and hate.

Been thinking...the moniker pitbull....how very ironic. Every so often, say once a month or so, someone's pitbull (inbred no doubt) has used its bloody instinctive nature to strike. You know, the iron jaw and all....

Personally, having a nickname like that would be ultra insulting to me.

My beautiful loving pitbull is the one who should be insulted...I am for her. I would not lower any breed of dog nor ANY other animal to the degree I needed to have a level of comparison for Palin.

This is what John Lewis was talking about. McCain is insulted by Lewis' comments. But he should be insulted by the people who are thoroughly unAmerican at his rallies- peddling hatred.
