Official: Well-Trained Foreign Jihadists Leaving Iraq For Afghanistan

American military successes in Iraq have prompted growing numbers of well-trained "foreign fighters" to join the insurgency in Afghanistan instead, the Afghan defense minister said on Tuesday.

The minister, Gen. Abdul Rahim Wardak, said at a news conference that the increased flow of insurgents from outside Afghanistan had contributed to the heightened intensity of the fighting here this year, which he described as the "worst" since the American-led forces toppled the Taliban government in 2001. American commanders have said that overall violence here has increased by 30 percent in the past year and have called for more troops.

Abdul Rahim, another new recruit, said he received training from American military contractor Blackwater for 45 days.

"I can use the training to save my life in these mountains and I can also use it to fight them," he said.

Our press does no investigative reporting about foreign events any more - we recently had bombings of US embassy in Yemen and the Marriott Hotel in Pakistan - both by Al Qaeda.There has been very little follow up stories or information about those events. Prior to 9/11, if everyone remembers, we had similar bombings of USS Cole and our embassies in Uganda and Zimbabwe.


What has the Bush Admini done about this? Why are they considered strong on National Security.?Merely going and dropping bombs from 15,000 feet or invading and occupying a Muslim country, is not strong. We have made many permanent enemies by their actions and we will pay for a long time to come.

To every "surge" there is an opposite and equal "countersurge" regardless of the landscape or geography. Iraq fell victim to it and now Afghanista­n/Pakistan­. Guerilla warfare knows no bounds or limits. The phony war in Iraq was a prediction that the mess would spill over into neighboring countries once the fighting their abated. America will continue to squander its blood and treasure for years to come in trying to control the chaos in the Middle East with ineffective strategies, tactics, logistics that have led to the downfall of other Empires seeking to control the affairs in the region. MIssion accomplished and "victory" are the delusions of a mind set leading to more chaos.
