Palin

The Anchorage Daily News reports:

The state Personnel Board investigation of Gov. Sarah Palin's firing of Walt Monegan has broadened to include other ethics complaints against the governor and examination of actions by other state employees, according to the independent counsel handling the case.

The investigator, Tim Petumenos, did not say who else is under scrutiny. But in two recent letters describing his inquiry, he cited the consolidation of complaints and the involvement of other officials as a reason for not going along with Palin's request to make the examination of her activities more public.

Newsweek reported on Saturday that the Personnel Board probe, which both the McCain campaign and critics expected would be more favorable to Palin, hasn't turned out that way:

McCain campaign spokeswoman Meg Stapleton dismissed the report as the product of "a partisan-led inquiry run by Obama supporters." But there could be more land mines ahead. Some weeks ago, the McCain team devised a plan to have Palin file an ethics complaint against herself with the State Personnel Board, arguing that it alone was capable of conducting a fair, nonpartisan inquiry into whether she fired Monegan because he refused to fire Wooten, who had been involved in a messy custody battle with her sister. Some Democrats ridiculed the move, noting that the personnel board answered to Palin. But the board ended up hiring an aggressive Anchorage trial lawyer, Timothy Petumenos, as an independent counsel. McCain aides were chagrined to discover that Petumenos was a Democrat who had contributed to Palin's 2006 opponent for governor, Tony Knowles. Palin is now scheduled to be questioned next week, and the counsel's report could be released soon after. "We took a gamble when we went to the personnel board," said a McCain aide who asked not to be identified discussing strategy. While the McCain camp still insists Palin "has nothing to hide," it acknowledges a critical finding by Petumenos would be even harder to dismiss.

On Tuesday, the Anchorage Daily News also printed a blistering editorial on Palin, calling her response to the State Legislature's Troopergate report "Orwellian."

Sarah Palin's reaction to the Legislature's Troopergate report is an embarrassment to Alaskans and the nation.

She claims the report "vindicates" her. She said that the investigation found "no unlawful or unethical activity on my part."

Her response is either astoundingly ignorant or downright Orwellian.

Page 8, Finding Number One of the report says: "I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act."

In plain English, she did something "unlawful." She broke the state ethics law.

Perhaps Gov. Palin has been too busy to actually read the Troopergate report. Perhaps she is relying on briefings from McCain campaign spinmeisters.

That's the charitable interpretation.

"Palin is now scheduled to be questioned next week, and the counsel's report could be released soon after."
She has been sliding around this stuff since it began. It seems the only thing that will stop her is if an Asst. State's Attorney personally goes to whichever state Palin is campaigning in, slaps the cuffs on her and hauls her back to Alaska on that Conair plane she sold on e-Bay.
Looks like Sarah's campaign is gonna have to be suspended...
Too bad, so sad, Sarah. I feel bad for your kids, though. They get to see that Mommy is not a nice lady all the time.

She said that the investigation found "no unlawful or unethical activity on my part."

She knows that a large segment of the population will believe that because she said it. The Rethugs have been doing that for the last eight years. Be bold with your lies... and the public will hear truth.

I usually "mute" it, because it's a good bet that Sen. Obama will be along in a little while with a speech of his own.
I just can't resist watching and listening to him. The difference between her and Sen. Obama is like checkers and chess, a dinghy and a cruise ship, a "snow machine" and a Zamboni, a.... Oh well, I guess you get the drift.

Brace yourselves for "Palingate" coming up in the next chapter. Seems like the "reformer" is being investigated for using the same contractors to build her house that built the sports center in Wasilla. The clincher--------they built if for FREE! Now, I wonder why it didn't cost them any money? Oh, I almost forgot to tell you, this is the same contractor that did the home renovations for Ted Stevens.

This team of McCain and Palin gets more like a circus act in a sinister carnival every day. She must have run that state like it was a dictatorship and she could do whatever she wanted.

It is unwise for Palin to keep up her reteric – promoting and still inciting violence.

She is not wise enough to realize that if any harm comes to Obama, she will more that likely have fueled that fire.

She is unwise in the fact that if Obama is harmed, she, her family and more than likely her friends will never again be safe.

Someone will go after her in a heart beat. It makes no difference if she’s directly involved, she will be quilty by association.

So, dear Sarah had best think again she has much to lose.

Everyone, let's take nothing for granted. I'm going to volunteer in these next few weeks, and anyone and everyone who can go to a swing state and help get out the vote on Nov. 4 should do so.

This election is too important, and I know the Repulican's talents for stealing them.... Please do what we can, what we ALL can, to help.

I'm with you MaryHuff. I've also volunteered for voter protection efforts in PA - strikes me that the only way they can win now is with vote(r) manipulation at the polls, and we need to be prepared to act preemptively instead of after the fact this time.

As to this Palin stuff - you have to wonder which is worse, Palin's revisionist responses, or the McCain campaign's wild remark that this is just Obama supporters behind the report - or better yet, the fact that they are simultaneously spewing this contradictory cr*p - unbelievable that they think no one will notice.

If Michelle Obama was part of an organization that wants to "Become a separate and Independent Nation." America would be outraged. If Michelle Obama even gave a speech to such a group Obama would be about 10% in the polls. America wold not tolerate it.

What about Todd Palin? He has really "palled" around with the Alaska Independent Party? Where is the outcry from this? I never see him where a flag lapel? But we demand Barack Obama wear one to show his patriotism. Are we so hard hardened that we will accept anybody with lipstick and any secessionist? Just as long as the person is not of color.

America, your heart will be tested on Nov. 4th. The world's eyes are on you. Be very careful because it could be Todd Palin answering the White House phone at 3am.

Alaska is too through with her and her lies. I pity the kids and she could care less!

Nice . . . nice stuff. I enjoyed the rendition of Mack the Knife, but Bobby Darin was the best. I flat out loved the tune for the last video - "Don't lie". Poor Sarah. She must have thought she had a lock on it; a cruise into the U.S. Naval Observatory and, soon enough, the White House.

Ah . . . the best laid plans of mice and lipsticked pigs

Did anyone read any of the comments? I went through the first couple of pages and one was asking about someone running for governor to unseat her. Their comment went along the line of well, she got herself into office so how hard could it be for someone with a brain?! I was ROTF at that one! LOL

Well, Palin will be sent back to Alaska, they will discover she got her house as a bribe, that she didn't report the money for her per diem as required on her federal taxes, and that she has, undoubtedly, lied about hundreds of other thing. I think it will be hilarious to see her ruined because of her hubris.

Polls are moving so fast, people are scrambling to get numbers on states not considered at risk to the GOP ;)

This very well could be the end of Palins career. At some point, she just becomes politics as usual in her home state. i think that after the embarrassment she has caused the GOP, they will be in no mood after this election to help her out in Alaska. Byebye birdie.

Perhaps her political career might be over, but she'll certainly do well on the GOP speaking circuit. Even G. Gordon Liddy got a job as a conservative talk show hosts (where drug addicts, bigots, and other nefarious characters are welcome). Of course, the moments of awkward silence don't play well on the radio, so it's hard to say how long she could last at that.
