Palin

The Anchorage Daily News reports:

The state Personnel Board investigation of Gov. Sarah Palin's firing of Walt Monegan has broadened to include other ethics complaints against the governor and examination of actions by other state employees, according to the independent counsel handling the case.

The investigator, Tim Petumenos, did not say who else is under scrutiny. But in two recent letters describing his inquiry, he cited the consolidation of complaints and the involvement of other officials as a reason for not going along with Palin's request to make the examination of her activities more public.

Newsweek reported on Saturday that the Personnel Board probe, which both the McCain campaign and critics expected would be more favorable to Palin, hasn't turned out that way:

McCain campaign spokeswoman Meg Stapleton dismissed the report as the product of "a partisan-led inquiry run by Obama supporters." But there could be more land mines ahead. Some weeks ago, the McCain team devised a plan to have Palin file an ethics complaint against herself with the State Personnel Board, arguing that it alone was capable of conducting a fair, nonpartisan inquiry into whether she fired Monegan because he refused to fire Wooten, who had been involved in a messy custody battle with her sister. Some Democrats ridiculed the move, noting that the personnel board answered to Palin. But the board ended up hiring an aggressive Anchorage trial lawyer, Timothy Petumenos, as an independent counsel. McCain aides were chagrined to discover that Petumenos was a Democrat who had contributed to Palin's 2006 opponent for governor, Tony Knowles. Palin is now scheduled to be questioned next week, and the counsel's report could be released soon after. "We took a gamble when we went to the personnel board," said a McCain aide who asked not to be identified discussing strategy. While the McCain camp still insists Palin "has nothing to hide," it acknowledges a critical finding by Petumenos would be even harder to dismiss.

On Tuesday, the Anchorage Daily News also printed a blistering editorial on Palin, calling her response to the State Legislature's Troopergate report "Orwellian."

Sarah Palin's reaction to the Legislature's Troopergate report is an embarrassment to Alaskans and the nation.

She claims the report "vindicates" her. She said that the investigation found "no unlawful or unethical activity on my part."

Her response is either astoundingly ignorant or downright Orwellian.

Page 8, Finding Number One of the report says: "I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act."

In plain English, she did something "unlawful." She broke the state ethics law.

Perhaps Gov. Palin has been too busy to actually read the Troopergate report. Perhaps she is relying on briefings from McCain campaign spinmeisters.

That's the charitable interpretation.

About the "house that Todd built " with some "friends".?? It seems that the house may have been part of a deal with the contractors awarded the Wasilla Sports Complex contract . Sarah Palin's house just happened to be built nearby, and Sarah herself made sure that no building permits were required at the time. I hope an investigation is done quickly. If true, this should finish her political career, along with all her other wrongdoings.

Oh c'mon. That was all done by Todd with a few of his contractor-donor pals. It's his hobby, spending hundreds of thousands of dollars fixin' up their house and the governor's mansion. Don't you and your pals fix up your mansions over a couple of brewskies while watching the Oilers game?

I read that she insisted on building the sports center miles from town on land the town didn't even own, when a better site was available. Now it turns out that the sports center is only a mile from her house. I think a big key to her is that her world is small. She's a mom, and when she says she's doing something "for the people" she means "for me and my family"... the per capita oil and gas payout, the big increase for special needs education after Trig was born, trying to get her ex brother-in-law fired. Of course now she's just got this crazy vision of herself as president that's terrifying the rest of us.

Wow. You talk about a one-woman wrecking crew. She's going to be the 1st governor that I can remember being recalled within 2 yrs of taking office. She's made the people of Alaska into a laughing stock and I don't think they're going to forget that too soon.

So I hear Palin's brand new $800,000. house was built by the same guy who was bribing
Senator Ted Stevens with his house improvements. . Maybe this is the story that will
really have some legs, and Alaska will get rid of even more crooked politians.

There are already citizens of Alaska discussing impeaching her or recalling her, whichever one will work. I'm wondering if she is going back there next week to testify before the Personnel Board or are they sending someone to her on the campaign trail? If she goes back next week she may not get the greeting she would like! Go read the comments at the Anchorage Daily newspaper and see for yourself.

Does she know that the bible addresses more issues than abortion; it also addressing lying, doing harm to others, controlling one's tongue, etc. How can she continue to tell such bold faced lies? If she is a christian, she should value pleasing God more than she values pleasing the GOP. Why son't she just go away????

It's not complicted. The woman is a congential liar. And I honestly do not believe that she has the intelligence to read the report. Maybe Todd read it for her - and told her that everything is okay. Apparently, he reads all of her official business - reports, emails... why not this?

Well, if John McCain couldn't find the time to read the 3-page bailout proposal from the Treasury Secretary, then would anyone really be surprised that Palin didn't read the 263-page Troopergate report?

"Perhaps Gov. Palin has been too busy to actually read the Troopergate report."

Palin, read? They'll need to print it in the form of a few bullet-points on a Starbucks cup for that to happen.

Mudflats had a great video up yesterday of Les Gara taking it to Meg Stapleton on the street. It was pretty great watching the Mini Palin get owned but only for so long. I swear, I hear Meg Stapleton's voice and my brain starts to shut down. It's not going to be pretty when Sarah has to head back to Alaska.

Hello to all commentators,

All the commercials, pundits, gaffes, personal attacks, and the MSM will not dictate the outcome of this election. THE GROUND GAME IS WHERE ELECTIONS ARE WON, AND LOST!

Before you go to the next left leaning article to comment on, or right leaning article to start an argument with a republican (which will no doubt end with them calling you an unpatriotic socialist wimp) May I suggest that you get in the game.

Page 8, Finding Number One of the report says: "I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act."

If that means vindication then Palin is truly in a parallel universe; very Orwellian to say the least.
Anyone who has ever worked in civil service knows how serious this is. The findings speak to her lack of integrity. Keep digging Alaska until Palin is fully exposed.

Only the most ignorant members of the base could believe the spin on Troopergate.

Palin can be summed up by one word and it is easy to spell: L-I-A-R!

I have not seen anything about what exactly the investigation "Troopergate" will mean in terms of legal action against Gov. Palin. Is there any type of penalty for breaking ethics laws in the state of Alaska? Please let me know....
