The Anchorage Daily News reports:

The state Personnel Board investigation of Gov. Sarah Palin's firing of Walt Monegan has broadened to include other ethics complaints against the governor and examination of actions by other state employees, according to the independent counsel handling the case.

The investigator, Tim Petumenos, did not say who else is under scrutiny. But in two recent letters describing his inquiry, he cited the consolidation of complaints and the involvement of other officials as a reason for not going along with Palin's request to make the examination of her activities more public.

Newsweek reported on Saturday that the Personnel Board probe, which both the McCain campaign and critics expected would be more favorable to Palin, hasn't turned out that way:

McCain campaign spokeswoman Meg Stapleton dismissed the report as the product of "a partisan-led inquiry run by Obama supporters." But there could be more land mines ahead. Some weeks ago, the McCain team devised a plan to have Palin file an ethics complaint against herself with the State Personnel Board, arguing that it alone was capable of conducting a fair, nonpartisan inquiry into whether she fired Monegan because he refused to fire Wooten, who had been involved in a messy custody battle with her sister. Some Democrats ridiculed the move, noting that the personnel board answered to Palin. But the board ended up hiring an aggressive Anchorage trial lawyer, Timothy Petumenos, as an independent counsel. McCain aides were chagrined to discover that Petumenos was a Democrat who had contributed to Palin's 2006 opponent for governor, Tony Knowles. Palin is now scheduled to be questioned next week, and the counsel's report could be released soon after. "We took a gamble when we went to the personnel board," said a McCain aide who asked not to be identified discussing strategy. While the McCain camp still insists Palin "has nothing to hide," it acknowledges a critical finding by Petumenos would be even harder to dismiss.

On Tuesday, the Anchorage Daily News also printed a blistering editorial on Palin, calling her response to the State Legislature's Troopergate report "Orwellian."

Sarah Palin's reaction to the Legislature's Troopergate report is an embarrassment to Alaskans and the nation.

She claims the report "vindicates" her. She said that the investigation found "no unlawful or unethical activity on my part."

Her response is either astoundingly ignorant or downright Orwellian.

Page 8, Finding Number One of the report says: "I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act."

In plain English, she did something "unlawful." She broke the state ethics law.

Perhaps Gov. Palin has been too busy to actually read the Troopergate report. Perhaps she is relying on briefings from McCain campaign spinmeisters.

That's the charitable interpretation.

Sarah Palin -- first human being to fail the Turing Test.

.

Sarah Palin responded to this article by calling a press conference this morning:

"Good morning. Once again, an elite, eastern coast of Alaska newspaper—this time the Anchorage Daily News—has decided to attack me without getting their facts straight. They reported today that my response to the Troopergate report is ‘Orwellian’. Well, I guess the laugh is on them now isn’t it? By now, I’d guess that just about everybody in the entire United Sates of America knows who Sarah Palin is and that she comes from Wasilla, Alaska, not Orwell, Alaska. Heck, Orwell is at least 1,000 miles northwest of Wasilla. So, I guess that’s some pretty shoddy reporting on their part. And if they got that obvious fact wrong, I guess the rest of their story is pretty much made of the same thing I found in Trig’s diaper ‘bout an hour ago. That’s all I really had to say, thanks a bunch.”

Hold up! Was Palin attempting to be ironic or does she really think that "Orwellian" was reference to a town in Alaska? She has transcended beyond absurd. I haven't thought anything about her is funny for quite a few days although it seems like a lifetime. I am having difficulty dealing with all of this. I have a feeling McCain is going to challenge Obama to a dual during the debate as well. Nothing surprises me anymore.

I think Sarah truly doesn't read anything and the McCain campaign handlers told her that the report exonerated her because they knew she was too dumb to check. They knew she would spout the lies and not realize she had been made a fool of until she returns to Alaska and learns the truth.

She is going to return to an Alaska she doesn't recognize. I just hope the national press follows her for a little while after she and McCain lose the election. I want to gloat !

My hat goes off to the Anchorage newspaper. It has not resorted to sitting on the bad news about Palin and Mccain.

Politics really accelerates the aging process. Paling seems to be suffering from an usually faster aging. After all she's only been at it for a little over 5 weeks. But more than the shine is gone from the apple. It's rotten to the core. Gross.

I think there is a lot more Palin abuse going to come out.

What I wonder is if all those fans of hers (the "she is just like us crowd" that can read) feel that maybe there is something not quite right with a woman that with complete confidence lies directly into the camera and states the Troopergate report clears her.

I know we already had the bridge to nowhere etc lies but this is now and here. Has there been a change amongst those supporters?

She should have thought of this when she accepted the nomination. It put her in the spotlight and when anyone that the media does not know well is thrust in the spotlight the scrutiny is on. I guess she was to used to getting by with doing what she wanted up there in Alaska where nobody pays any attention.

It would be great if the Palin pick not only costs McCain the presidency, as appears likely, but also costs Palin her job as Alaska governor.

Sarah McFlop's associations with AIP should be brought out into the open. She supports the secessionist ideology of AIP. Why is not on the news?

CNN is starting to cover the AIP connection.
McCain's spokesman has countered with "that's unfair. That's like covering Obama's religion".
Except that Obama is a Christian and the goal of most Muslims is not to break up the Union of the United States of America.

And besides, I thought there was a certain disdain for people who used "damn" and "America" in the same sentence.

Or does that just apply to Chicago ministers......

Is Sarah Palin functionally illiterate?

She seems to have no trouble reading coffee cup, oops.

She seems to have no trouble reading the NYTimes, oops.

She seems to have no trouble reading a investigative report, oops.

What does this woman have against reading?

She actually said on camera that: 'The was no abuse of activity in "TRYING TO GET OFFICER WOOTEN FIRED"

There is an admission right there that she tried to get him fired. She just thinks and states that it wasn't unethical but she uses the ACTUAL WORDS trying to get officer Wooten fired'

What a shallow person
