WASHINGTON — Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton puts the chances of her running for president again at near zero _ slightly higher than the chances she gives for becoming Senate majority leader or a Supreme Court justice.

In an interview aired Tuesday on "Fox & Friends" on the Fox News Channel, Clinton, D-N.Y., was asked the chances, on a scale of 1 to 10, that she would be the next majority leader in the Senate.

"Oh, probably zero," she said. "I'm not seeking any other position than to be the best senator from New York that I can be."

Being nominated to the Supreme Court?

"Zero," Clinton said. "I have no interest in doing that."

Running for president again?

"Probably close to zero," she said. "There's an old saying: Bloom where you're planted."

The former first lady, who was elected to the Senate in 2000 and re-elected in 2006, said she looked forward to working as a senator with a Barack Obama administration.

There's no reason she couldn't end up with a cabinet position.
She's a smart person and has a lot to offer the new administration.

Hillary is in her element in the Senate. I see her following in Ted Kennedy's footsteps.

What the he ll is wrong with you people- The Hill Haters?
Seriously.
Do you really believe the same old garbage you spew?
do you do research, you obviously either do not know anything about her or her record or you just lie like the neo-cons.

For those NYers who vow not to vote for her, who constantly harp on her not being in NY or done nothing maybe you should go to govtrack.us or to the US Senate website and look at her record.
Sheesh- talk about the "party line."

AND as for the complaining that she hasn't been in NY (which by the way is NOT true) she has been campaigning for Obama and down ticket PROGRESSIVE Dems almost non stop except when in Washington WORKING!

She has raised, all by herself, 8 MILLION dollars for Obama-
who else has done that?
what have you fricking complainers done?
ridiculous, idiotic, childish, ill informed, silly whiners.
Seriously, what is your problem?

It's like Whack-A-Hill isn't it. Whenever any HuffPost article appears containing the name Hillary Clinton , the haters flock to it like ants to honey. Old habits seem to die hard.

I am not questioning Senator Clinton's work as a Senator or her support for Obama in recent weeks. But there are many of us who were soured on the Clintons before the primary even begun, partly because of their support for Bush's war, partly because of Senator Clinton's neocon foreign policy statements, partly because of Bill Clinton's sharp shift to the right after he became President, partly because of their unbridled support for corporate interests, partly because of their personal dishonesty and emotional immaturity. If many of are are happy to see the Clintons take a backseat on the national stage, it is for valid reasons, differences with them on policy positions and their personal conduct in office and in campaigns.

Opposing Clinton because of her support for Bush's war is completely valid. There are many Democrats in Congress for you to oust if that is your primary qualifier. As for "Bill Clinton's sharp shift to the right", not only would it be interesting to see your examples of this, why should you hold that against Hillary Clinton if it were true? "Unbridled support for corporate interests"? Examples? And what politician hasn't shown "dishonesty" and "emotional immaturity" from time to time?

I just don't understand why people are hanging on to the battle of the primaries.

I'm not as outraged about the "hate" as I am surprised by it. When you zoom back from the inner-party power struggles (which is absolutely common in ALL political parties), what has Hillary Clinton done to infuriate so many Democrats? She played politics just like Barack Obama did. That is what politicians do! Yes, those pitiful memos from her campaign strategists were released about the tactic to paint Obama as 'foreign' and that much is a shame. But, deny it all you want, there WAS existent sexism in the primaries. Both are equally unfortunate and inappropriate ways of politicking. However, both Hillary Clinton AND Barack Obama are outstanding individuals with sharp intellect and progressive values. Let's praise BOTH!

Please unify behind all progressives and have some perspective on how politics operates.

Yes, because two wrongs make a right.

I can't believe how utterly petty liberals have become. Where have the intellectuals gone? Where have the fair-minded progressives run off to?

Amen - I always hate to see a dream denied or deferred. I actually feel bad for her, but she has a lot to offer and I look forward to her shaking things up without the need to contort herself into a centrist pretzel to appeal to voters outside of NY State.

Bloom where you're planted is a great notion and I'd be glad that that is her view now, if I could fully believe her, which I can't because, well, because I don't and never do. I think she is a good senator and could become great if she works at it and divorces Bill (just kidding).

I have admired Hillary Clinton since I was a little girl and she said the infamous "I guess I should be home baking cookies" to those who derided her for being a non-traditional First Lady. Yes, she's a politician. She is known for making shrewd political moves. How else do you expect a woman to climb to the top? same for any minority! You've got to knock a few knee caps here and there. Obama, whom I wholeheartedly support, is just as shrewd as he is smooth. And I admire both of them for scrapping hard to get to a position where they can affect change. Like it or not, it's the way of the gun.

As for Hillary not running again for POTUS, we will see, I guess. It's quite common for politicians to lower expectations. I believe Obama will be an excellent president, but if for some reason he proves otherwise, I would welcome a Hillary run. And if she changes her mind, I will absolutely support Hillary in 2016, barring any substantial reason not to.

Look, I love the Clintons---Bill was a great president; HRC would have made a great great president.

But right now I am worried about the actual God damned country and getting the actual Dem nominee into the Oval Office.

Hillary Clinton would have made an excellent President and I would have been proud to vote for her. However, that was not to be, we have chosen to put Barack Obama in the White House instead.

In saying that, however, I do so hope that she stays in the Senate. Her chances to do the most good are there and i am sure she will, in time, be as honored in that place as any other statesman.

Good luck, Hillary, and continue your fight for universal health care (single payer, not for profit), the rights of women and workers, for the underpriviliged and for all children who need you the most.

Senator Hillary Clinton is a class act- with grace, wisdom and intellect.

The Democratic party was made relevant for the Presidency by Bill Clinton. If Obama is benefitting from our economic woes, it is precisely becuase the nation associates better economic stewardship with Democrats- thanks to Bill Clinton's record.

Here, here! I've noticed that Obama has a lot of difficulty speaking of the current economic crisis because he doesn't want to admit a basic fact: the budget was balanced by Bill Clinton. Now, I can accept such begrudging refusal from McCain, but I'm not sure why Obama had to run against the old ways -- which meant apparently Bush AND Clinton. Such a strategy is going to backfire for Democrats for a long time coming.

False.

Obama, in several speeches has acknowledged Bill Clinton for his work on the economy. Try again.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:01 PM on 10/14/2008

I agree with most of that
But Benne, O's been talking about the economy since January and before- and he had a speech on it then he brought together the leading economic figures in the country and had summit- and concerning the bail out- he's the one who was fighting for an equity share- monies to help struggling home owners-extending food stamps and unemployment benefits.

I don't think he do any more than wear a flag lapel pin with economy stupid on it and wander aimlessly around the stage muttering to himself.

Hmm, I think you may not be glued to the news as much as I have. Barack Obama has credited Bill Clinton for the wonderful economy in the 90's several times. It's not in his oft-repeated stump, but he's brought it up in countless Q&As and speaking engagements.

And Bill Clinton signed the Glass-Steagall Act (sp.?) which some economists believe led to our current crisis. Bill Clinton was a firm supporter of deregulation. It has taken a while for the economy to reap what he and others have sown, but it's happening. Balancing the budget (with the encouragement of the Republican Congress) may have been a good thing, but much else that Clinton supported were not helpful to the future financial strength of the average citizen in this country.

IAM4CLINTONTOO!

I am saddened by the fact that my Senator, Hillary Clinton, may not run for President again. She was the most intelligent and articulate of all the Democratic candidates.

Thank god she can change her mind.

You are the BEST there is Mrs. Clinton!

"She was the most intelligent and articulate of all the Democratic candidates."

Hmm, definitely your opinion, which is fine. I'd have to argue that, even though she has much political wisdom and experience, I don't see how she is "more" intelligent and articulate than Barack Obama. I find them to be equals in those regards.
