Father Secretly Names Baby Sarah McCain Palin

Fox News:

A new father has secretly named his baby girl Sarah McCain Palin after the Republican ticket for president and vice president.

Mark Ciptak of Elizabethton put that name on the documents for the girl's birth certificate, ignoring the name Ava Grace, which he and his wife had picked earlier.

"I don't think she believes me yet," he told the Kingsport Times-News for a story to be published Tuesday. "It's going to take some more convincing."

Now, I thought my niece was a bit nutty, when she had to have a scheduled c-section for medical reasons, and one of the two dates she was given happened to be Obama's birthday. She chose that day for her daughter to be born, hoping to be able to tell her in years to come she was born on the same day as a former president.

It was both cute and a little odd to me.

But this? Waaaayyy over the top. In some countries it is acutally illegal to give a child a name that will cause it embarrassement or mortification in its lifetime. "Sarah McCain Palin" would definitely count! I mean how many secessionist jokes could the kid take on the playground?

Now these are the family values Republicans are talking about. Secretly naming your kid without your wife's approval. That sounds like a great marriage.
And it must be great for the daughter to be associated for the rest of her life with a lying, power-abusing, unethical hockey mom and a grumpy old guy, who would chase her off his lawn if she was a couple of years older. But if you really want to embarass your child, why didn't you call her Sarah "I can see Russia from my House" Drill Baby Drill Palin.

Anyone who would refer to the incentive for naming his child as "taking one for the team" should be sterilized.

Who would subject their child to a lifetime association with a political ticket? I would be equally horrified by anyone who named their child Joe Obama Biden Smith. The pure selfishness and short-sightedness of such a decision to saddle YOUR OWN CHILD (without your spouse's permission, by the way) with an identity not his/her own is grounds for two words: Divorce and Patricide.

Thanks for your condolences......My parents named me after Eisenhower. I hate that I was named after a Republican, but at least it's a relatively decent name. As a kid I hated my first name (hence I go by my middle name), but I didn't learn to hate that I was named after a Republican president until I was older and learned of what the Republican Party has become.

For these reasons, I would suggest that NO parent EVER name their kids after political figures.
