He may privately prefer Mccain, they may be Good old buddies, but he did not show favoritism in this debate and did a very good job, a lot better than Tom Brokaw, who did not have the best questions, I thought. gwen Eiffel was too sacred or to soft on Palin, never forcing her to answer the question and just letting her rattle on her usual nonsense. I thought Schieffer did an excellent job.
Like Barack said today on the campaign trail, "anyone who is getting giddy or cocky remember two words New Hampshire" we all need to remember as democrats and independants voting for Sen Obama that we have to win this it is imperative to the life of this country , more than ever we cannot continue down this road of destruction. Until the last vote is cast I will be calling or doing whatever I can and hopefully the morning after the election when all counting is hopefully done we can then we as d@#m cocky and ridiculous and we all know we want to be . Go Obama we are behind you , beside you and infront of you.
And your point is...?
He was by far the best moderator of the three debates. I don't care if he does love him some McCain. He put the candidates on the spot and asked them great questions. As far as I'm concerned, he could do all debates as long as he's alive. As long as farrckin' Brokaw is shut out, I'll be happy.
My only complaint was that Schieffer gave McCain the last word on almost every question. Watch it again, if you didn't notice that the first time.
But that didn't faze our future President one bit, did it? Cool as a cucumber, That One!!
Scheiffer was well known to be a friend of McCain's, but he is a professional and did a good job at the debates. He's also very fair on Face the Nation.
Brokaw, OTOH, is another story. He's been very disappointing.
Agreed. Scheiffer did the best job by far of any of the moderators. That he is a fan of McCain did not in any way affect in any noticeable way how he conducted himself or the debate. If anything, watching this video, I am even more impressed with how well Scheiffer performed his role.
I thought the questioning by Scheiffer was very even-handed. I thought Brokaw showed less respect to Senator Obama than he did to Senator McCain.
Schiefer is a consumate professional. Brokaw, however, was friggin worthless. In a debate on domestic policy we never once heard the phrases:
Glass-Steigel
Fairness Doctrine
Posse Comitatus
Okay, I kne this going in, and expect the debate to be frustrating and unfair. Instead, this was the best moderated debate yet. There was hardly any of the talking over each other we had before, and in many ways although everyone seems to say the gloves were off on both sides, it actually seemed more civil to me because the moderator seemed to have more control and more respect given him. I was please with the questions as well.
Likely, the impression has more to do wtih the dynamics of the set-up. When the candidates are further from the moderator physically, and/or able to roam about and set that distance, different rules seem to apply. The proximity of the moderator gave him more control.
In the "say it to my face" debate, the fact that they were saying everything to the moderator's "face" made them more respectful to the time limits.
Also, this moderator would say. "Okay, but answer the questions" several times.
so....this is one man who seemed to be able to be fair
Yes, agreed. Bob S. is the best moderator of all.
But to read this that he is a fan of Senator McCain puts him in a different category. Now there are two moderator's we know of and that is ...Tom Brokow. Perhaps Charlie Gibson, too? Who are the others?
So not even a fan as moderator would abandon integrity and balance to help JMc. That just says it all.
I might be in the minority here, but I thought Schieffer was the best moderator of the four.
Let me join your minority in agreement.
I don't care if he likes Adolph Hitler...
Schieffer was the best moderator hands down. By framing the questions well, he was able to let the guys just go at it.
Great job, Bob.
Hard to watch at this point in time.
