schieffer is a repub sycophant, if you understand that, then you understand him.
"Beguiled", bewildered, and bemused, yes, George Bush's golfing buddy has a man crush for his "greatest generation" but, in spite of all that, he gets the job done. I have to admit, he was fair with Obama, or else Obama was more that a match for him, because neither McCain or Schieffer laid a glove on him.
As much as I love Bob Schieffer, I'd love for him to just go away. I'm just so tired of hearing the same old voices in the media. Especially thinking of how it was Tim Russert's turn to be the dean of the press corps, and his untimely death has robbed him of that honor.
So we continue to suffer with the grandparents, for one more Christmas in politics.
that video dosen't count because that occur in 2000...how funny that McCain is always going to "screwed" by a bush
He looked at McCain much more often, ignoring Obama in his speaking segments.
He let McCain preach far too long, I think the shameless and greedy McCain had at least 2/3 of the debate time. I loathe him.
It's a disgrace and I've brought up a number of times that Schieffer is a rock-solid Republcan, his brother is in the State Dept. for God's sake!!!!!!!
What's wrong with the Democrats that they always let us down and feeling frustrated and demoralized. by not looking out for this aggressive and totally shameless and immoral conduct on the part of the Republican thuggery.
Brokaw is a Big Republican too!!!!!
But who did the media screech about? Gwen Iffil of course, all the while knowing full well that Brokaw and Schieffer were full-fledged partisan hacks!!
If it weren't for the internet and especially the HuffPo, I sincerely think Obama would be totally steamrolled over by the rightwing MSMedia establishment by now.
The Dems never learn anything, ever, ever, ever.
How I pray Obama wins and big! Get rid of the fascists forever! And, Obama really deserves to win this election.
My biggest complaint with Schieffer was his allowing McCain to interrupt Obama so many times. How rude! Good news is, those were more "give 'em enough rope" moments, like Gwen Ifill allowing Palin to say she wasn't going to answer the questions.
Otherwise, I thought Schieffer did a good job with the debate tonight.
....WE truly deserve for Obama to win this election!!
I was thinking he was favouring McCain a bit too ... but in the end it didn't matter as it was just more rope. Overall Shieffer did the best job of all the moderators.
Can I speak up for Bob Schieffer? He's of that generation of TV journalists that believes that TV news is all about "searching for the truth" with a TV camera, not about gotchas and ratings. If he's in the tank for McCain, I couldn't tell it. Heck, if he was a flaming communist until last week, I couldn't tell it. Gwen Ifill got intimidated by all Johnny's bluster about her book, and Tom Brokaw was plain not up to the challenge, but Bob Schieffer did it right.
wow.. right on the money... i agree.
(Said in Ed McMahon voice)
You are correct, sir.
I give Gwen Ifill some slack for that debate. She broke her foot a few days before and therefore she would have also had some paid meds. To just break it and still be preparing for debate, having to travel to the debate, shuffle around to get comfortable to sit for the time frame of the debate -- most people could not have done it.
I still think her comment that it wasn't her job to interfere should be taken at face value. I think it was great that she didn't press Palin to answer the question when Palin blew her off. If she had, she would have looked like she was picking on Palin. Instead, Palin went on with her own agenda, and people were pissed that she didn't answer the question.
Ifill handed her some rope, and Sarah hanged herself.
Was it me, or did Scheiffer give McCain the last word far more times than he gave Obama the last word?
It seemed like McCain was allowed to go on and on and on...he also interrupted a lot. So annoying.
I was screaming about this through the whole debate.
Fortunately, the more McCain got to talk, the digger he dug his own hole.
ditto.
Schieffer did the BEST JOB of all the Moderators. Far better than Brokaw!
He forced them to follow up on questions and he kept them on subject!
He is a TOUGH guy with a gentle smile.
Thanks for a Professional and GREAT JOB!
How is McCain going to polish his t u r d of a debate on Letterman tomorrow night
My five year old son summed up McCain's problem "he's too old and crazy."
These two should just get a room together. The sexual tension between them was almost deafening.
McCain is his own worst enemy. It was like a boxer repeatedly hitting himself and asking his opponent if he's had enough.
It really seemed to show too. I was noticing that regardless of who got the opening question it seemed that the vast majority of the time McBush would get the final comment on the subject.
Exactly. Other than 1 time. My wife and I noticed that also, and were mad at that inequality.
Well, I thought he was way better definitely than both Brokaw and Ifill. I wouldn't have guessed he leaned towards McCain. To me he seemed impartial. Obama wiped the floor with McCain anyway. Even the most die hard Republicans have to admit that their ticket is GARBAGE. Even if they can only admit it to themselves.
I loved the VP to President question but was mortified that Palin again got a pass from Obama.
The only thing McCain left out in his response was "she's s Hockey mom". I almost died when he said "and her husband's a pretty tough guy"...yeah and a controlling extremist.
I agree. If Obama had chosen a running mate as ill prepared as Palin, you know McCain would have been all over it. Obama should have at least thrown in one cheap shot and said something like "And did you know that from the roof of Joe's house you can see nothing but Delaware."
I had the same visceral reaction but Sen. Obama is trying to raise the level of political discourse and it is working to his advantage to maintain his dignity while McCain wallows in the mud. It will work to everyone's benefit eventually. I sense that Rovian politics is waning and those who engage in it are making spectacles of themselves.
You and I and many folks here would do that. Which is why Obama is apparently going to be a successful candidate and none of us are :).
Obama has remained steady literally and stylistically throughout the campaign and its worked, very well.
"Obama should have at least thrown in one cheap shot ...."
Wrong on 2 counts:
1. It might alienate women who were going to vote for BO. There's still the mentality of "picking on a woman".
2. "Don't get mad, get even." Forgot which famous politician said that, but it's true.
But this way Barack gets points for being a gentleman (which still counts, especially among the still uncommited many of whom are older), the rabid neo-cons at the rally have nothing new to get riled up about and anybody who doesn't already think she is an idiot wouldn't be convinced by hearing Barack say so, no matter what examples he gave.
He won this one too. He wins them all and pretty much the same way.
As much as I would love to hear someone refrain from the "Palin is intellectually incurious" comment and tell it like it is...she's just plain dumb...it was better for Barack to take the VERY high road and not throw a milkbone to the Repug masses to chew on and take issue with...it would have been a soundbite and the lead line from the debate for the Faux News folks to run with.
O doesn't have to say that Palin is not very intelligent or well informed or honest for that matter. She proves it every time she opens her mouth. I think O did the right thing. He came off as classy.
