On Sept. 24, Hillary Rodham Clinton received a surprise phone call from the man she's often denounced as an economic know-nothing: John McCain.

This was no social call, even though Clinton likes McCain enough to keeps his photo on the wall of her Senate office. The GOP nominee had already chatted with Bill Clinton about the mortgage crisis and wanted to pick the senator's brain about her new proposal to have the federal government buy up bad mortgages and renegotiate terms more favorable to homeowners on verge of default.

"McCain said he had been motivated by it, he was very complimentary about what she had proposed and wanted to know more," said a person with knowledge of the call.

Clinton responded coolly: "She didn't engage him, she just said, 'Thank you' and heard him out."

I'm wondering if he has been calling her for campaign advice.

Maybe Bill?

I think that was a very sensible thing to do, comming from a man who admitted he knows "diddly" about economics. Now, all he has to do is admit that he is not raedy to be President.

Last night, Hillary came out on Fox and on CNN as the official post-debate spinner for the Obama campaign, and did a stellar job.

She said McCain called her a few weeks ago, not a few days ago, and that this was an "old story".

Her defense of Obama was absolutely perfect. I've never been a Hillary fan at all, but all I can say is "Thank You, Hillary. Great Job."

Sharon: I had to wait until after the debate to respond to your post:

At the beginning of Senator Clinton's campaign, her platform was READY ON DAY ONE. As it became apparent that this was no longer working for her, she changed her platform to CHANGE, borrowing not only from Senator Obama's platform, but also borrowing from the language of his platform in her stump speeches.

I acknowledge that Obama called Senator Clinton for economic advice, as the article affirms. As he pointed out in the debate tonight, he surrounds himself with the brightest minds in our country, beginning with Biden. Contrary to Bush, who surrounds himself with a small cabal of people who only tells him what he wants to hear, Obama is wise enough to understand that an effective administration requires a president who is secure enough to reach out to people with diverse opinions, who have the expertise to address any given issue, as the Clintons do on the economy. I think this is exactly the kind of president our country wants and needs; but I don't see it as an opening to suggest that because Obama sought economic advice from the Clintons, then Hillary should be the one running. They all have something valuable to add to this process, and they've all borrowed from each other in this respect, but seeking advice doesn't diminish Senator Obama's brilliance or judgment or any other aspect of his candidacy. In fact, it enhances it.

Senator McCain mentioned Hillary Clinton's economic plan as his own during tonight's debate.

Gotta love those triangulating Clintons!

Why would John McCain need to ask Hilary Clinton about economics.....why not just turn to his Maverick whipper stamper Vice President for that.... Aren't they soul mates as he said?

Cagey! Getting a tax deduction AND solidifying Bill Clinton's appreciation and support in one move.

At least Hillary is still able to sound like a Democrat who is supporting Obama.

Pure PR. McCain is trying to split Democrats and make former Hillary supporters comfortable in voting for him. It's a game like everything else McCain has to offer. All PR and no substance...
